Venue's pretty standard. Kind of old looking but it looked like they kept it clean. Everything look wiped down good. Food was very exceptional, I got curry chicken. Portion sizes were decent. Patti was good too. I'll go back again.

I was visiting from California. The lady in the front is very rude with a nasty attitude. She was arguing with me because she incorrectly took my order. Instead of arguing back with her, I simply requested a refund and left. My friend was with me and she wasn’t pleased with her attitude neither with her food. My friend said their rice and peas are too sugary/sweet. She is a diabetic. If I could rate it a ZERO, I would….

I first visited this restaurant for lunch last week. The aroma from my office drew in two of my coworkers (asking where my lunch came from). The food tasted equally as delectable as it smelled. The portion size was most generous, considering the $11 price tag for the small plate. Today, my coworkers joined me for lunch and they were both stuffed beyond belief and raved about how delicious their food tasted. We will certainly revisit this little gem.

For the best and most tender Jamaican oxtails, rice, and peas around this is the place the place to get it! I've NEVER been disappointed with "lack of flavor" missing from any of the dishes I've had at Jamaican Island Kitchen. From Jerk Chicken to the bean pies and plantains! Everything is always good and full of flavor!! The wait may be a bit long, depending on the time of day. I ordered three oxtails to-go for myself and 2 coworkers and brought them back to work across town. The food was still piping hot and delicious when I got it back to the office.

Order goat, escovitch fish and beef patties. Goat was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. Fish was good too. Good amount of food.

This authentic Island food will have you coming back for more. With options for vegan and mild seasonings, my family was able to enjoy a variety of food! You will not be disappointed, I have tried something new every time I go in. And nothing has disappointed me.

I came looking forward to a Trini experience…. I’m still waiting… Quality of food was good and the flavors are good. I wasn’t wowed by the food but is was above avg. The menu would benefit from a lil tweek by adding Roti, salt fish, doubles and other staple Caribbean dishes. A quality visit but not a must visit!

Off the chain tender and juicy oxtails and goat this was my first visit but definitely not the last excellent flavor throughout the meat even in the bone

Friendly service and great food. I had the oxtail with yellow rice and cabbage it was amazing! Food portions are huge. The cabbage and cornbread are so good. The jerk chicken is wonderful, too! You won't be disappointed.

Wasnt busy came about 530 or so out of chicken got oxtails. They were sweet and not as cooked as I like perfer Korean tender. Over all wasnt bad but not Jamaica like I have previously had.

Wow, is all that I can say! 1st time experiencing Jamaican food-10/10 highly recommend. I got the oxtails, peas & rice, cabbage, and plantains. They have a lot of regular returning customers here, and once you taste the food you will know why!😁

If you haven't went here, you definitely need too. The absolute best Jamaican food. I either go for the oxtails or the brown Stew Chicken. They even have Jamaican sodas that you can purchase as well.

My jerk chicken was dry. They gave me some old plantains. I would’ve return it back. I order to go and I was heading back to Mobile,Al. It wasn’t worth my money. I’m not trying that place again. Hopefully they get better each day they open up for business.

First, I’d like to say how I like the cleanliness of this establishment. I ordered a small brown stew chicken with the peas rice with plantains. OMG… I LOVE how they put the sauce over the rice…mm mm good! They put it in a to go container…they must know that you’ll be taking some home. The serving size is PLENTIFUL 😍 I will be back and thank you for the experience!

This place is mostly a “to go” restaurant. When I was there the place was almost deserted. It was kind of surprising. Definitely not the typical atmosphere. The food was alright, however it seemed to have a fair bit of MSG in it. We were not given any drinks or water but I think there was a refrigerator in the room with drinks which we were supposed to pull out and buy if desired. I confess the customer service was not top of the line. There could be some improvements. I may not go back but I would say it is worth trying out.

Tried out this place today and it didn't disappoint. The jerk chicken was on point. They also have a very hefty serving, I couldn't finish my rice. Haha. I would have given it 5 stars, but the plantains were overcooked (they looked burnt) it was still good though. I would come back and try other things on the menu. They are also very reasonable priced.

Easy to find location, service was really good and the FOOD, OMG... Man oh man.. hands DOWN it was delicious and that cabbage..... I'd rather that and just the oxtail alone ... My guddddd

Where Shall I Start? Well First Off This is my second time trying the oxtails. Both times I wasn’t pleased or impressed as We Spent $37 for 2 plates on one visit 4 times that amount on our first visit!!!!The rice was too wet and that was without any gravy and the plantains was soggy but yet burnt!!! The oxtails were so small that most of them looked like little knuckles. It was horrible They didn’t have much of a flavor and the one flavor that it did have overpowered the whole entire dish… rosemary or thyme perhaps. It was just not on my tastebud pállate. Everytime I visit Home I try to support our black owned businesses and local community food trucks, and I must say most have been tasty. It’s a hit or miss and it saddens me to say that your oxtail plate was a miss for me. If I had to recommend some one else it’s a strong NO!!! Perhaps I can try another dish and hopefully I’ll have a better outcome.

The roti and goat was amazing! The brown chicken with yellow rice, awesome! And the oxtail was to die for! I would recommend this place for that Caribbean flavor anytime!!!

Best jerked chicken I've ever had. My girlfriend has been to Jamaica and this was the closest she's had to authentic in the states. Meat pies were pretty good, but was nothing compared to the chicken.

I come to this place once a week and get the curry chicken with some yellow rice, cabbage and corn bread and it’s delicious. They recently closed for a few days and I was hurt y’all LOL

Jamaican restaurant with no "jerked chicken"

This place can be hit or miss. My last visit was a hit. I ordered a curry goat dinner and jerk chicken dinner, chicken and beef patties. The meats were superb. They made the meal!!! Jerk chicken was moist. Goat was tender. Both flavorful. A few things I didn't like... I've never been a fan of parboiled rice. Rice was tasty... just don't like that kind of rice. Corn muffins are not great. I'd rather a Hawaiian roll or something. Chicken pattie meat was minced way to much... both patties were dry. The pastry on them was delicious. Many of you are right about the hospitality. I don't think the young woman means any harm. I think she's sweet... possibly introverted, she shies away from eye contact. If you manage to catch her eyes with yours, you'll see this. I know it comes off as cold though. The guy... front of the house isn't his thing. I'll be back. I love oxtail too.

Out of all Jamaican food I have ever had in my life. This place was the worst ever. I mean all the way down to the corn bread was bad. Plus the online prices or completely different from what the cost actually is. DO NOT EAT HERE. YOU Will NOT BE SATISFIED. Take it from a fat guy that loves to eat!!!

This spot has delicious jerk chicken and rice and peas with cornbread or fried banana. Recently I did a catering order with them for an event with 12 people. I ordered jerk chicken and rice and peas enough for 12 people and the order totaled to around $100 and some change. I received two large aluminum foil containers one with jerk chicken filled to the top and the other with rice and peas and my coworkers loved it as did I. I highly recommend this spot to all!

Food was okay, service was really odd. Attitude for no reason. The appearance of the restaurant is not inviting and the girl taking my order seems to hate her job and hate me for being pleasant. First time there and will be my last.

NOT JAMAICAN, ITS TRINIDADIAN FOOD!!! So I havent gone yet, just checking places out before I go on vacation there. I just had to say alot of the bad reviews are from people expecting "Jamaican" food. Well I kind of take offense to that since Jamaica is not the ONLY island in the Carribean!! The name of the restaurant literally says Trini!! Meaning its Trinidadian Cuisine!! Trinidad and Tobago ya'll!! Look it up on the world map!! Its the very last set of islands before you get to South America!! So please stop saying and expecting "Jamaican" food or you will be disappointed because they are very different flavor wise!!!

Food was tasty, probably the best here in Pensacola for this type of food. Servings were generous and looks great. Service needs a little training...no greeting, no thank yous, nothing...just order, grab your food, be on your way. Planning on dining-in but was not asked and food came out in takeout packaging...

Got the oxtails because the jerk chicken was gone. After tasting the ox tails, I can only imagine that they were Soooo Soooo good. These oxtails, rice and peas, and plantains were AMAZING! Look, don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself.

If I could give 0 stars I would! I didn't taste any food nor did I get a greeting while at the counter. The guy up front looked at me dead in me face and continued making other meals.. lady came out and didnt speak either..Not the way to do things. Lost someone who you come thru 3 to 4 times a week..

I waited 15mins for the food and when the food was almost done the employee informed me it would take additional time for the cornbread to be done. Of course I said no, because I was already waiting long enough. When I got home the food was seasoned well and hot. The curry chicken was not spicy but had good flavor. The plantains were stiff and hard. I'm not sure if I would go back 😕.

So far I’ve had their cabbage oxtails curried chicken and brown stewed chicken and all of it is delicious. Huge portions I always have enough for two servings. My favorite is the oxtails and the cabbage. I’m pretty sure I could live off of just the cabbage 😂 I definitely have is tails at least twice a week from this spot. Highly recommend 10/10 you will not be disappointed

I got a large chicken curry with a beef pie and omg I can't tell you how happy I was to finally try this place. My boyfriend has bragged about it for years and I finally got to go before everything was sold out lol got there first thing in the morning. His goat was phenomenal. I will get that next time. My chicken was falling off the bone. The flavors were married so well together. It was just the best

Ate at the Island Kitchen for lunch today for the first time. Ordered the small Curry Chicken with Yellow Rice, Cabbage, and Plantains for $10.50 plus water for total of $11.50. Portion size is more than enough for me, I'm 240bls and was satisfied when finished. The cashier smiled the whole time I was placing my order ( I think she thought I am cute). Restaurant atmosphere is inviting and refreshing. Love the checkered table clothes. I really enjoyed my experience and will gladly pay the extra $2 to eat in a comfortable and enjoyable restaurant. Well done.
