La Isla catered food for my family and I. Food was legit authentic culture food. There are many out there that say they serve Spanish food. But few actually meet the expectations the palate desire. Flavor was consistent in the large order we placed. The food took me back to the Island! The management team was also detail oriented in making sure we had what we needed for the number of people expected. They nailed it!! So, to sum it up- they cook with love and love what they do. 5 Stars!!!

My go to spot for plant based empanadas. The plantains, the homemade juice, and the sauce on the wings is buss down good. Bodega authenticity with upscale lounge ambiance. If you’re in Hamden, hands down best PR spot you can find.

To start off, I rarely give 10’s and this is one of those occasions. 10/10 all across the board. The service was great, the tiny shop was clean and has a nice vibe (even the bathroom was finished well). The food is the star of the show with the two chicken dishes we ordered having perfectly tender chicken and since I had never tried Puerto Rican food before and for the first time my expectations are now set very high. If you live in Hamden or nearby, definitely try this place. As a final note, 10/10 would 110% recommend :) P.S. I wanted to try their flan but sadly they didn’t have it but next time I come I will definetly try it and update this review.

I had driven by La Isla a bunch of times and it always smelled so good. Today we decided to stop in for an early lunch. The lady behind the counter couldn’t have been nicer. She explained, and showed us, the hot dishes they had. We ordered wings, so delicious and great taste, pulled pork with yellow rice and beans and two empanadas. Everything was soooo good!! The restaurant was clean and had fun music playing. We will definitely be back to try their other dishes!

When I say I tore that potato ball up !! I mean it didn’t even make it out the parking lot! Best hands down ! I’ll be back for more !

Food was delicious, service was great by the chef, I will definitely be back many times!! Flavorful rice & beans - perfect! The mango buffalo wings were sweet and very tasty, with a hint of spice. Strong mango flavor was fantastic!! Pernil was excellent, especially with the tostones. Mmmmm .... soooo good! Thank you.

This is the only Puerto Rican restaurant that charges extra if you want beans over your rice. Take a ride to New Haven and get your monies worth

When you first walk in the restaurant they are so friendly, this is my fourth time coming, atmosphere never changes. And food is amazing. I pray they never change keep up the great work.

I had the white rice with beans and pork chop and it was delicious. The wings were very sticky and full of flavor. The service was superb as they speak Spanish and make you feel like you’re at home. I live in Bristol and it’s a 45 minute drive but for this type of service and flavor I’ll keep going back.

Too expensive and the food is not out of this world Waterbury has better Latin restaurants and much cheaper.

The restaurant is small and has cute Puerto Rican decor. The rice and beans was great. Fresh juices were refreshing. The pernil was grossly fatty and lacked flavor. I would not get this again. The server was a bit rude. Would give them another chance to sample other items. It's nice to have something authentic in the area.

My Husband and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat the customer service is very pleasant the restaurant was very clean. Now let’s move On to the Food hands down 10 out of 10. Food at the counter was real good but limited. When I wanted to try other things from the menu, I was told kitchen was not making anything els. Bummer! Call ahead if u want something specific because they might not make it. Will try again but will have to call ahead.

My wife and I have been driving for mainly an hour just to find the right authentic puerto rican food here in Connecticut. We came across this perfect little cozy place. First timers here. And we MUST say, everything was a 10/10. The food, the service and the cleanliness. It was so relaxing while enjoying our lunch. This is a place we definitely returning back to.

Just got a kid size portion meal for $22. That’s insane. Literally like one scoop of rice. The food is ok dont get me wrong but but that’s just highway robbery at this point. Never again.

Authentic PR food! I felt like I was on the island. The server was very patient with us, and the inside was clean and cozy. My favorite was the cod stew. The salmon was also great. Be prepared to wait 25 minutes, but at least it's fresh and worth it! The rice and beans are insanely delicious. I will be back soon. It was so good I forgot to take a picture.

Let’s start by saying how we were acknowledged when we walked in. Asked if it was our first time, that right there means everything, now the food!!! Let’s talk about the pork, seasoned well enough & not dry at all! The rice & beans went wonderfully with the pork shoulder. Y las alitas, hay papa! Estaban yum yum! In English, the wings are bomb! So, I ordered a beef empanada from here…. Where’s the beef?? It’s practically meatless 🙃 . This cost too much money to not have a good amount of meat.. I basically paid for fried dough.

Rice and meat were good, but empanadas were not tasty. Empanadas tasted like the frying oil was not changed for a week.

I wanted to give a good review so I tried this place 2x. The service is pretty good nice lady in the front. Both times I order the rice has been excellent! The food is definitely pricey ( for the amount of food) compared to other Spanish restaurant I’ve been too from New Haven to New York. The beef and chicken stew would of have been better if the meats had more flavor and weren’t so dry and if the stew was a little less runny. I would probably give this place another try if it wasn’t so pricey but for now I think 2x is enough for me but I high recommend you try it for yourself 😊

I went there for late lunch on Sunday 11/5. Food was great, a cut above the normal Spanish eateries in the City of New Haven. I was with someone who is usually very critical of Spanish food since she comes from a different country....but even she was satisfied! Thanks La Isla!

Food is always on point. She never misses! My absolute fave is the yellow rice, guava bbq chicken, those red beans. Every thing is season to perfection!!!!! Sooooo nostalgic as it brings back memories from my home (St.Croix USVI). The owner was very friendly and we had a great conversation. The restaurant is always clean and the food is always fresh. You can tell she makes the food with love and it’s not just about money. Pull Up You Won’t Regret It!

Food is soooooo good but its insanely expensive for whatever reason...

I am sad to have to write this review especially that we have frequent this place often after always having a great meal. Unfortunately after my husband and I went there last night ( it was 5pm) during dining hours to learn that the food was very limited which we feel it should have not been...No white rice ( why not cook more?) Yellow rice ( no gandules in it) and just 3 entrees ( baked chicken, pulled pork, and carne quisada which there was barely any left) so that was it...we were truly disappointed after we thought we found our forever place...Like I said earlier we always had awesome food and a big variety to pick from before...don't know why I'm 😞

My tío and I stopped in yesterday for a quick lunch. We have driven by several times and have been curious to try it. It did not disappoint! The food was delicious. There was a constant flow of customers. The staff/cook was extremely friendly and helpful. I’m taking my husband next time.

As an African American, I've always admired Puerto Rican cuisines when I was living next to PR neighbors. As I grew, I could never find that real authentic flavor from restaurants, but I just discovered you guys through IG and I couldn't be happier... I wanted so bad to like this place because when you want a nice plate of Spanish food it would be nice not to have to drive to another town to do so, but that us what I will continue to do. Upon entering the establishment there is a notable absence of the smell of food. It didn't smell like anything was currently cooking or has recently been cooked so I knew in that moment I wasn't ordering a meal. So my partner ordered Pernil with arroz and beans and I ordered a papa relleno and let me say I have never been so disappointed. The beans tasted as though they just opened up a can of beans dumped the contents into a pot and warmed it up. The pernil was tasteless beyond salt, it wasn't dry but it wasn't the the tenderness that you look for when eating pernil. The papa was heavy, greasy, the potato wasn't seasoned and it had some type of chunky texture to it that was very unbecoming, and the meat was flavorless. We asked to have the papa freshly cooked because the ones in front looked past their intended hold time. My partner wants to give them another try I on the other hand feel as though one visit was more than enough for me. To be clear I visited La Isla hungry and eager to fall for a new food establishment but that was not to be. When you're given the moniker "The" concerning anything please make sure you are in fact Thee 1 and not The 2 or The 3.

Yesterday me and my boyfriend were craving hispanic food and we searched some places near by. We clicked on La isla to give it a shot. When I tell you, the best hispanic food I’ve had. While working in the restaurant industry myself, customer service is always an important factor. The customer service was great, the girl who took care of us was very sweet and attentive. And not to mention the music was a vibe. Definitely coming back🥰

The rice had an awkward taste to it. The Pernil was ok, but a little disappointed. I did think it was overprice. Arroz con gandules and Pernil, and 2 tostones (cold) and regular size to go plate plus a sprite was $20! Not worth it to me.

Chef Vee and Ni are literally the best! The atmosphere is clean with a caribe vibe. I go for the vegetarian empanadas (used to do chicken or beef, but my friend convinced me to just try the veggie option, and I've been hooked ever since!). Try the empanadas with the "green sauce" (forgot the name, lol). The customer service is also A-1! Come stop by for a bite, you won't regret it!!😋

Delicious food, the restaurant looks awesome. It’s a little pricey but what isn’t now a days, my only complaint is the passion fruit juice in the containers tastes less like passion fruit and more like the mint leaf left in it.

Food was great, As far as portions for the price you don’t get much, I don’t dine in often but my child wanted too so we did and as shown on ig you get plates served at your table well we didn’t get to experience that my food was given in To go boxes. Recently tried La Isla after watching Foodie Friday on Fox 61 News. Well worth the visit. I had the beef stew and yellow rice which was delicious. Courteous and super friendly service complimented the awesome food. Great job!!!!

Stopped by for lunch as we passed the town and the food was flavorful and the staff were extremely friendly definitely would recommend to anyone looking for great Puerto Rican cuisine

This place far exceeded my expectations! I was excited about the plant based options and they did not disappoint. Everything was good and fresh!!! I ordered 2 meals and a drink. My meal was large but my eyes were bigger than my belly.

I'm just going to begin saying the food is so gooooood. Always fresh and hot. The plantains fries with the mayo ketchup sauce and the relleno de papa (aka) stuffed potato ball with beef are my absolute favorites just as an appetizer and don't forget to grab an ice cold Malta it's a classic! The bacalao with white rice and beans totally delicious. The chicken, the penil and the yellow rice is bomb. I went there on a day they had a special of the "canoa" that is a sweet plantain boat topped with their yummy seasoned beef, cheese and baked to perfection oh my goodness I was in heaven. I love the fact they have a plant based empanada like whatttttt! Even though I eat meat I will eat those too. Lol. Oh I'm not done yet!!! My daughter and I grabbed the passion fruit juice its amazing, it brought be down memory lane, when I went to college in Puerto Rico, make sure you grab one, you won't be disappointed. Oh yeah, for dessert the flan, tres leches, and cupcakes are to live for, lol. La Isla is my home away from home. I love it here. The friendliness, the hospitality, and cleanliness is top tier. Make sure to check out the beautiful mural on the wall and the decor in the bathroom is gorgeous. Don't take my word for it, go try it for yourself.
