It is not the usual shaved ice with syrup on top, it is a true authentic style Italian ice. This is the very original establishment in the Chicago land area. Tip: don’t be alarmed with the long lines. They move very fast. Do not be deterred. I recommend getting your must have Al’s Italian beef from across the street and get your Italian ice (size small…. Yes size small almost 16 oz, plenty). If they have the grapefruit (usually limited offering), I do highly recommend it. Perfect sournesses and sweetness and actual fruit pieces.

Went with a group of friends and almost unanimously got POG (passion fruit, orange, guava). I got watermelon+pomegranate. I enjoyed the taste. Because this uses real fruit, you'll find watermelon and pomegranate seeds in your drink, as well as real lemon peel pieces. I definitely will be going back before they close for the season and get POG+watermelon or watermelon+piña colada

What's to not love about Mario's in the summer?? Lychee is my favorite flavor and I hope they don't raise prices because it's reasonable! The POG is good but if you're looking for something light and refreshing, lychee is recommended. No seating, it's all take out.

Any time the sun is blazing, it's a good excuse to pop down to Mario's. If it's peak summer time, you should expect a long line, but it goes quickly and I haven't waited in line longer than 10 minutes for my single order. Tip the workers if you can, with cash! The Italian ice season usually starts May 1st here and closes in the fall sometime, in which the date may vary based on weather.

This is my new favorite Italian Ice/Lemonade spot! Apparently, everyone knew about this spot except for me ha ha! The first visit, the line was long, but went very quickly! The second visit, we walked right up. I can’t pick a favorite; everything I’ve had so far taste great; grapefruit, pomegranate, and lychee. There’s real fruit pieces in each one, so I’m aware that that might not be to some folks liking, but it adds to the experience. I see this being a frequented spot for me, this summer.

Absolutely love this place! I discovered it by accident, just passing by. I saw a line of people waiting and decided to try a lemonade too. And I truly loved what I got! The kiosk offers a lot of different flavors of iced lemonade. It was hard to pick one, but I finally ordered a watermelon lemonade. It was absolutely delicious! I believe they use actual watermelon chunks and fresh watermelon juice mixed with the frozen lemonade. By the way, there are small pieces of lemon in the lemonade too. A few days later, I came back to this place with my friend. I ordered the watermelon lemonade again, and my friend picked the Pina Colada flavor. He absolutely loved it. I tried a little bit of his lemonade, and I loved it too. I believe I could see little coconut chunks in his lemonade. There are a few different sizes to order, from a small one which costs $4, to an X-Large one which costs $8. They also have really big containers, like a full gallon for $26, which is great if you need it for a big group of people. Another great thing about this place is that it’s possible to mix a few flavors in one order, for example, make it 50/50 with no extra charge. Many people used this option as I could see. Like I already mentioned, this place was busy every single time I visited. And I understand why, because its concept is really cool, and the product is very delicious. Especially, it is nice to have this Italian lemonade during the hot summertime in Chicago! Oh, I also have to mention that the staff who work in this place are very sweet and friendly, especially the girls. Go and try this place, you will not regret it!

NO Seating. The real OG of Chicago's Italian Ice scene. A destination for many #Chicago families. Excellent flavors. Watermelon seems to be the most popular. Price may be higher than most. However, you get a perfect slushy that slowly melts and in the end you get a few fruit pieces. There is none other like it. Enjoy! Note: Chicagoans refer to Mario's as Italian Ice even though it's an Italian Lemonade that makes it different and more flavorful compared to Other bland and boring Italian Ice which leads me to conclude that its a flavored lemonade made of real fruit or juice.

If summer had a flavor, it would undoubtedly be Mario's Italian Lemonade on Taylor Street! Picture this: a tiny stand bursting with colors and flavors, tucked away in Chicago's own slice of Italy. From the moment you spot the cheerful stand, you know you’re in for a treat. Though the line may appear daunting, it moves quickly. While you wait, you can practice your Italian hand gestures or dream up your own personal flavor combinations. Among all the flavors, the watermelon stands out as exceptionally flavorful and refreshing. It surprises with its vibrant and natural taste. It's a recommended choice for anyone looking to indulge in a refreshing treat that celebrates the natural flavors of seasonal fruit. Another intriguing option is the POG (Passion, Orange, Guava), which offers a sweeter alternative. This blend may initially require some adjustment for those accustomed to more traditional lemonades, but it promises a unique and rewarding taste experience. The combination creates a harmonious balance of sweetness and tropical fruit flavors. When it comes to portion size, the small serving at Mario's was just right for us. Despite its modest appearance, each sip packed a punch of flavor, leaving us perfectly satisfied without overwhelming our taste buds. Remember, Mario's is a seasonal delight, so slap on your shades, grab your pals, and make it a lemony summer escapade.

The fruit pieces in the Italian ice make it so delicious. The staff were friendly and quick. Can’t to come back again soon!
