A great little stop along 264 in Englehard. Martelle's is definitely not a place that's only busy because there is nothing nearby. It is well worth the drive for the food and service. Their BBQ is flavored right, their staff is friendly and welcoming. They have a well stocked salad bar at a great price. I will definitely be stopping in the next time I'm nearby or will drive a little further to get there.

We went out to look at the shrimp/fishing boats and stopped for a late lunch. Food was outstanding. Service was friendly. I will drive back out for food again.

Went on a seafood Friday! We were pleased with the delicious scallops, oysters, shrimp, crabcake & flounder!!! It's been a week, & I'm salivating when I think about how tasty everything was, and how fresh & yummy the salad bar was also! Can't wait to go back! Our meals were so good!!!

Worth the 5 hour drive from Charlotte

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon while driving home from the Outer Banks, and was informed it's self-serve buffet style on Sundays. The BBQ and fried chicken were great. Never had eastern NC style BBQ before, but it was so good. The fried chicken was perfectly coated and season and so juicy. Had to stop myself from going back for more after a third full plate.

Delicious as always. Especially the salads and Cowboy!

First time visiting on Saturday… great service and the food was outstanding. Fried chicken, BBQ, steak, and shrimp - all good! We will be back.

Food was good,very slow, party of 3, took an hour to get our food, they weren't very busy, , servers were friendly and helpful. It's the best restaurant in the area,1 of 3.

Our waitress was nice. Our food took about an hour to get to our table and those that arrived later got their food before us. I understand sometimes what we order might take longer but we had pretty much the same as every other table chicken strips and fries. Sometimes just communication does the trick maybe if we were told our food was delayed for XYZ we would have been a little more understanding. The prices were fair and the food was okay.

The Cowboy Chop was absolutely the best piece of meat I’ve had in forever!!! It was hands down chefs kiss!!! WOW🥰

The class of Mattamuskeet 1973 had their 50th class reunion there on May 27 2023. Getting reconnected with Classmates that you haven’t seen in 50 years was great and the Food was delicious and the staff was great if you are in the area stop by you won’t be disappointed.

Cool place to eat and visit. One side is a standard sit-down style restaurant, while another is more of a bar with a TV or 2 and a bartender. Solid bbq and lots of options.

This is the perfect "days gone by" restaurant. Walk back in time to great, southern food and hospitality. I will eat here every time I'm in this area. Everyone treats each other like they know you. I've never had fried okra that was whole, baby okra. Delicious. The fried chicken strips and country fried steak were outstanding. There was one waitress for what seemed like 20 tables and she didn't skip a beat. No one had to wait for anything and she smiled the whole time. I was torn between ordering dessert or tying on an apron to help. I love Love LOVE this spot.

Didn't stop here, but the locals we know can't stop talking about this place and how good it is. We were in the area for photos and got plenty (snow geese, golden eagle, saw a pair of f16s)

Fried shrimp soggy, crab cake not crispy and tater wedges half done. On good side waitress was friendly and very attentive.

Nice little place that has buffet and serves some good southern food. Be careful if you eat too much, you might be asleep within the hour 😅. Food was delicious and the staff keep up with you. If I'm ever over that way again I'll definitely be stopping in.

Wonderful buffet and menu to pick from. Reasonably priced, great service, and some of the best fried okra and fried oysters I’ve had in a long time. Stop by and get something - you’ll be glad you did!

This country style restaurant is a great place to eat. They have the best bbq in Eastern N.C. plenty of fresh seafood everything is delicious. And there staff are very friendly. Stop in and try it out. I give them a 5 star 👍

The food was good. But this guy named Josh was rude and completely unprofessional. I'm not sure if he worked their or just wanted to act like a big shot. He has no business interacting with customers.

This restaurant was delightful. I had grilled chicken breast, fried okra and Cole slaw. The chicken was grilled with a pepper lemon favor and a hint of something I couldn’t quite name that made me smile with pleasure. The fried okra was crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. Cole slaw was creamy, with just the right amount of tang. The waitress was friendly, professional and excellent. Definitely I will go there again.

I'm not much on writing reviews but "OH MY GOD". THIS PLACE IS AWESOME.. I wasn't expecting the sheer joy of eating a Prime rib. I ordered a 10oz Prime Rib and apparently the scale was off because it was well over a pound. The mash potatoes and gravy was just like my grandma's. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you for a great meal.

Went to Martelle's on Feb. 15, 2020, after a recommendation from an individual while visiting Lake Matamuskeet. The food and the service were both outstanding. The young lady waitress was so attentive and cordial. She made us feel very welcome as did the young man working the cash register as we left. Do yourself a favor and eat at Martelle's next time you are in the Englehard area. You won't regret it!

For a resturant located in the middle of a beautiful place you could call "nowhere" it is fabulous. Seafood is FRESH and the okra are to die for. The Lake Mattamuskeet Wildlife Refuge is a great place to visit for seeing swans, cranes, geese, ducks and eagles. Peaceful and beautiful land that is God's protected habitat.

I say this without reservation that Martelle cooks the best fried chicken in the world. They don’t advertise it enough and it’s just one of the things on the menu but I promise you once you try it there is nothing that tops it.

Really enjoyed this place. Staff very friendly and clean restaurant. I had the oster sandwich was absolutely delicious, will definitely visit again when I'm in town.

Told to hurry before they closed at 9 pm and glad we made it. The Cowboy Chops, a thick pork chop with a tasty dry rub was phenomenal.
