I recently visited Baton Rouge and stumbled upon MJ’s Cafe while searching for a vegan restaurant to accommodate my dairy allergy. I found them online and frankly I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly blown away by the experience. I ordered the buffalo cauliflower wrap, the special quesadilla, and a soup that was out of this world. Each dish was incredibly flavorful and satisfying. It's hands down the best vegan food I have ever had. While I did not dine in only picked up. The staff was friendly and accommodating, making the entire experience enjoyable. MJ’s Cafe has set a new standard for vegan cuisine in my book. Highly recommend!

I’ve came here a few times to pick up food I’ve ordered before coming which was a pleasant experience BUT today I decided to come with my husband so that we can dine in and so he can try it for the first time . Well we were greeted when we walked in but ultimately was looked over after . We sat at the counter waiting for someone to take our order while watching the guy waiter walk to other tables and passing us up several times . I still waited thinking they were there before us . Shortly after there were customers who came in and waited to order take out . The guy waiter decided to sit down and take their order and never came back to us . There was a nice lady waiter who came to give us water at least until she finished serving the table that was there before us . Which I greatly appreciated. What my husband and I didn’t like was the blatant ignorance of the guy waiter who literally chose to not wait us . I’m a chef that gives reviews all the time and when I see things like this , it always seems to amaze me because word of mouth is always your biggest advertisement . You never know who comes into your establishment so the best thing to do is to treat EVERYONE the same . I won’t be back simply due to not feeling welcomed .

Very nice little cafe, with excellent lunch and breakfast options. The sandwiches are a good size, and the soup was very good. The gluten-free cookies are very tasty, almost like a hand sized cake. There is parking in the back. Tables are far apart and it's a nice open space. The staff was super friendly and courteous.

I stop here whenever possible while I'm BRLA. The food is consistently delicious and the staff is always so friendly! Don't forget about the sweets by the register 😉

You won't find many places like MJ's around. And I can attest to the fact that it has been this way with them for years. I worked in the shop right next door when they were on Jefferson, and would grab various bites for lunch. Before meeting MJ's I had never had smoked gouda, goat cheese, or paninis. The cranberry panini is my favorite! MJ's is where I tried many soups for the first time. The soups have memorable names that sound good just saying them : ) Maureen (sp?) always wears a smile and has kind words to give. Brenie (sp?) is also just as friendly. The food is AMAZING. I love the new location for its artwork, lighting, and plants. You get an all-around dining experience at MJ's. A gem in BR....big time.

If you want your life altered in a positive way, get the vegan mixed peppers breakfast taco. Doesn't matter if you aren't vegan at all. You can thank me later. Don't miss this!

My husband and I are neither vegan nor vegetarian, but we wanted to try MJ's. We were not disappointed. We didn't go the strictly vegan route since we had the Louisianan panini, which includes shrimp and provolone cheese. But we also had the roasted corn and garlic soup. Both were very good. And the cranberry walnut and chocolate chip cookies were excellent. The service and atmosphere are both quite nice. Our test for any restaurant is whether we would go back, and MJ's passed our test.

The only fully vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Baton Rouge, that I'm aware of, serves a varied menu. As you might expect, there are a variety of soups and salads. What you might not expect is the range of wraps and sandwiches or the breakfast and brunch on Saturday and Sunday! The atmosphere is comfortable and spacious if a little austere but that's not a bad thing. I arrived by bicycle. There is, of course, no bicycle parking. I locked up to the gas meter around the side of the building. The building fronts Government Street, which is how I tried to enter the building. What looked like the front door had a sign saying enter around the back. One of the two doors I saw around the back had a sign saying enter at the front. The other was clearly NOT the way in. I eventually walked far enough to see that the entrance is kind of hidden behind a walled patio. That said, had I arrived by car and parked in the rear parking lot I would have more easily seen the entrance. That aside, the food, service, and environment inside were excellent. The food was very flavorful and tasty. I will return!

Food is always inconsistent- some days it’s good, some days not so much. Sometimes food will be cold or lukewarm and the hash always seems like it’s from an old batch. Something that would definitely elevate the breakfast tacos would be toasting the tortilla. Love the servers though, they’re always so kind. The baked items are delicious.

Great little family run health conscious vegetarian restaurant. The dishes where both creative and incredibly delicious. If you are a health conscious or vegetarian leaning individual this is the place to go in Baton Rouge. Just a great spot with great people that I can't say enough good things about. Worth a visit!

Beautiful place, beautiful service, beautiful food both in taste and presentation!! I love that you’re given a big blue bottle of water! The pomegranate lemonade was amazing! I didn’t get the names of the employees but every single one I met was helpful & very caring!! Will definitely be recommending!

MJ’s has always been consistently wonderful until now. I have kept coming back and ordering the same things from the Jefferson location, the whitestar location, and now this location. This time, however, was extremely disappointing. There seems to be a huge operations issue that is throwing a wrench into everything. The French sandwich came on white bread and had very little goat cheese and barley any apple slices, the grits were watery and undercooked, the veggies atop the grits were still crunchy. Everything we ordered were things that we had ordered before and loved. The server who greeted us was really rude for seemingly no reason. I have been in the food service industry for years and I actually can’t think of anything we did to make her upset. She spoke to us in a condescending manner and gave us dirty looks. It took forever to get our drinks. When we finally got them, we mysteriously had a new server. I watched our original server continue to take other tables in the dining room and she was actually nice to everyone else. I have a feeling that we were “profiled”. The new server was actually very nice, prompt, and attentive. I have brought friends to this restaurant, and I have constantly recommended MJs to friends and strangers alike. I will no longer be doing either of those things until I can come back and see that things are better.

I really wanted to love it, as there’s not a lot of vegetarian/vegan places in town, but the sweet potato/squash soup was mushy (like the veggies were cooked for way too long) and the biscuits and gravy didn’t have enough gravy to cover half of the biscuits. When we asked to purchase extra gravy - they said they were out and that’s why we didn’t get enough in the first place. We were still charged full price. Unfortunately I would not go here again.

I wanted to wait until I dined in before writing a review but the pinto beans I just picked up was so good I have to say something. This is must try and go to vegan/vegetarian place. My only regret is not coming sooner when I was originally informed. See you guys soon. Will update review with better pictures when I dine in.

Very cute cafe in Mid City! All vegan and dairy free options. Food is warm, fresh, and delicious. Servers are kind and accomodating to families. Food is affordable & portions are OK.

I travel through this area about once a year and always make a point to stop here for lunch. One of my favorite spots and the staff is always super nice. Highly recommended if you are looking for a healthy and simple spot in Baton Rogue.

I did a search for Vegan food near airport and it let me to MJ’s. The staff is informative and friendly, Andrea helped me out today and she was a delight. The atmosphere here is open, modern and comfortable. They had nice, seasonal decorations throughout the dining room and in the tables. So cute! Now to the real reason I stopped in…the food! They have so many vegan options and it was nice to be able to have breakfast. They had a couple specials and I chose the Pumpkin Pie French Toast. It wasn’t too sweet, it was just right. I paired it with a Hazelnut Oatmilk latte and could not be more pleased. I highly recommended this spot, vegan or not.

Cauliflower Buffalo Wrap! Dont sleep on it! #Favorite

I have tried almost everything from the cauliflower pizza, the grits, tacos, the chickpea salad. It is all an "A+" and I enjoyed. All is already well.

I had the Italian panini and white bean soup. Someone else had tomato basil soup.Husband had the black bean torta. The food was good the staff was friendly!

My first time here on a friend's recommendation. The lemonade was tasty. I ordered The French sandwich with a side salad. I was very impressed with the freshness of everything on the plate. The sandwich was absolutely perfect! Now, I need to try the rest of the menu. You can't beat the atmosphere or the service. A hidden gem in plain sight. Don't pass it up!!

First time visit from kaplan,la. And we will return. Ate the black bean torts wrap and white bean soup and it was Fantastic. The staff is Awesome.

Everything is delicious here! This is what we need more of in Baton Rouge - delicious, healthy, and filling meals cooked fresh. Also, MJ's has my favorite iced latte (with oat milk) in town. Seriously good coffee here too.

The ginger molasses cookie is the bomb. The hippie garden salad is my fav and the avocado toast 🎉😎🙏🏾

Solid vegan/vegetarian cafe. Breakfast/brunch is the highlight. The choice to serve plain, raw kale in the "game changer" breakfast bowl is...odd.

Food was delicious (french toast, breakfast quesadillas, tacos, and hash). Latte was great and the flavored lemonades were yummy! Service was excellent! Andrea was so patient and thorough in taking care of our table with young kids! I can't wait to come through there on our next trip and hit MJs again!

I love MJ's and my 85-year-old mother thinks it is Christmas time everytime I bring her anything from MJ's Cafe. The food is fresh, prepared neathly, in food safe containers and always served with smile

I drove here on a Saturday morning from Gonzales. When I entered the restaurant there was only one other couple so I went to the bathroom before ordering I was kind of in a hurry and I knew what I wanted but as I sat down the girl handed me the menus and to be polite I looked over them but she never came back to my table for a very long time and I did not have all that time to wait. It was quite a disappointment I waited about 15 minutes and then I walked out.

A quaint spot with a lot of character. The daily soups are delightful. They also have a cauliflower wrap that’s amazing. The shrimp panini is one of my favorites.

I’m so happy I found this restaurant. In my immediate family, we have one Vegan, one Celiac’s disease and one egg allergy. Eating out together is always a struggle, if not impossible. The food here was delicious and accommodating to everyone! Even the “non-restricted” diners were impressed with the food! Definitely recommend!

Came with the kids for brunch on Sunday and ordered French toast and cheesy grits. Both were excellent (and vegan!) and they even had toys for the kids. Definitely planning to come back on our next trip from Texas.

I wish I would have known about this place sooner! MJs cafe is such a cute mom and pop restaurant. There is so much natural light in the restaurant, the playlist is oldies soul, lots of plants, and the staff is so welcoming. Gabby served me and she was so knowledgeable and attentive. There are so many gluten free and vegan options and they are delicious. I ordered the quesadilla with dairy free cheese and gluten free tortilla and a strawberry cupcake (AMAZING). All desserts are vegan and gluten free AND they have gluten free bread.

First time at the new location and it did not disappoint. The staff was helpful with menu selections for my daughter and continued to be attentive after the food came.

Food is seasoned to perfection!!! I have recently started to need to eat plant based due to health issues. I had very low expectations, but I should have set the bar higher. I brought 3 other non-vegan people with me, and we all left wanting to come back again! The food is DELICIOUS, and it's truly filling, too! I have emailed the owner asking if she has plans to publish a cookbook. The seasoning is truly spectacular!

Not a vegan but the Sweet Heat wrap was oh so good! Maybe the best warm sandwich I've ever had. You've got to try the king cake too! It had a very unique flavor- almost like ooey gooey cake filling. Reasonable prices to boot!

I wish I could give this restaurant more stars! This is my favorite restaurant in BR. So many vegan options (my favorite is the bbq chickpea wrap). They also serve treats like VEGAN rice-crispy treats, an assortment of cookies, and different slices of loafs (pumpkin loaf, …). Please support Baton Rouge business that strive to decrease unnecessary cruelty in the food industry!

I’ve eaten at MJ’s a few times and have always had a great experience! The menu is full of tasty and healthy plant-based food for South Louisiana plant eaters ;) so good!

This place is SO delicious with the option of easily making everything vegan and lots of gluten-free choices. The staff is so nice and helpful. The quesadillas and the Bae.L.T. are my favorites and their vegan rice crispy bars taste exactly like my great grandma's. Will definitely be returning!

Cute and spacious place with a wonderful selection of unique menu items. I had the Thai salad and a mimosa, both were tasty. The service is delightful and the atmosphere is relaxing.

Good cafe with plant based menu. Might have some shellfish on the menu. Standard fare of soup, salad, sandwiches and wraps. Avocado, sprouts, chickpeas, beans, sunflower seeds, etc. Soups are often the big winner here. Service can be a little slow. Good and wholesome.

Food and staff were great! This is one of the best places I go to for a vegan meal. The Hippie Garden sandwich is the absolute best! I had a tomato and squash soup mixed together (recommended by one of the staff)...DELICIOUS!!! Be sure to try this place out.

Visited this place whilst on my trip to Baton Rouge. Customer Service was awesome and food was good. It's very casual and friendly, plus it's clean inside. Wished they opened a little bit later. That's to that young lady at the front with spectacular customer service and never stopped smiling.

The food was good. It's great to have vegan options. We did have a few issues with things in our water carafe, but the staff replaced it both times.

The food was soooo delicious! They really know how to season food here! This wasn't rabbit food-- the mushroom soup could have been mistaken for seafood gumbo, and I'm a native Louisianian! The atmosphere is spacious, cool and cozy, with local art on the walls and lots of very happy plants. They are extremely accommodating of allergies, and can make anything besides paninis gluten-free. They also have several scrumptious desserts for sale to go, which along with the soup of the day are always vegan. But most importantly, it tastes great! This place is a can't-miss destination for vegans.

The food here is amazing. Not just amazing for vegetarian/vegan food; it competes with all the other great restaurants in Mid City. Everything is so flavorful and filling. My favorites are the black bean torta and Buffalo cauliflower wrap. The service is fast, and my take out is always ready when I get there. The rotating soups are also great.

Mjs is so good! We might not have the most variety for vegan food in baton rouge but we do have some of the best options!

Wonderful food! I had the cleanse salad and it was a great portion size and made me feel refreshed! Delicious corn chowder soup - so happy this place exists :) I 100% recommend!

This is a wonderful daiquiri shop within walking distance of my house. The prices are reasonable. The atmosphere was great, drama free. There is indoor and outdoor seating with 2 pool tables. A good blend to try is Bobby Blues, Cotton Candy and Liquid THC. It tastes like a Bomb Pop!

The Baecon is delicious and so are the Rice Krispy treats!
