Tried the "Trust me" option on the menu and was not disappointed, food was amazing and service was spectacular.

When to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to see the Giant Trolls Memorial Day Weekend. While talking to a "Local Resident", I asked where was the best place to eat and his response was "Spanky's Stone Hearth" in Frazee, Minnesota, about 10 miles East of Detroit Lakes. We made reservations, but could only get them a 8:30 pm. We started driving which felt like in the middle of "nowhere" and then it suddenly appeared. A huge beautiful Log Lodge sitting at the end of a pristine Lake. We were promptly seated in an almost mystical Grand Room (my photo does NOT do it justice). Service was outstanding, Prime Rib to die for. HIGHLY RECOMMEND...!!

We felt rushed from the moment we arrived!! Two of our party were late and first thing the waitress did make it clear that we were to done at 6:30 as our table had been reserved by others at that time!! The food was not out standing. A roasted red pepper sauce on our scallops had little to no taste. The green beans on the side were just that green beans. No surprise not even a little brown butter and toasted almonds. The steaks were not seasoned and in a couple of cases not cooked to order. For the price we just expected a little pizzazz! Beautiful building and great view of the lake!!

First time eating there and we will be coming back! Lots of pluses as well as excellent cuisine. The parking lot is easy to get in and out. Bathrooms are clean. Beautiful drive there. Open year round. Family friendly. Great place to go for a special time with someone.

As ALWAYS, great food, great service and perfect atmosphere. Also very good wine.

We have always loved Spanky's. We have gone there for years. We even overlooked the times that did not work out well. We always come each year for my birthday. The server the last few years could care less that it was my birthday our friends that join us want to talk awhile. The server wants to push us out fast. So many other places actually care about your special night a lot give a complimentary desert or drink. Last night and two years ago the server was so rude. Never smiled demeanor was almost hostile. Our walleye was on the cool side and overcooked. Just not the same place we used to love to go to. We sold our lake cabin last summer not worth the hour and half drive anymore. Your persons when you come in are very nice. Please train your servers to care about the customes. They probably would give a better tip if you do. We will not be back. We have tried too many times to give a second chance. So sad to give up on such a beautiful place.

Everything was amazing. Eating the Alaskan king crab is probably what the Vikings winning the Super Bowl might feel like. Euphoric. 7 of us all had unique dishes and loved every bit of it. The kind of place you bring your loved ones to for a special occasion. Get a reservation. It's a bit pricey, but totally worth it.

The service here is as excellent as the food. The ambience is just so-so if you're looking for intimate settings. If you're looking for a little more item and lively then this is your place!

One of our favorite places- we came for our anniversary! Our server Amy was spot on attentive, great attention to detail, extremely friendly, she even took our picture for us. Food was delicious with amazing flavor!! We have never been disappointed when we come here!

Fabulous finer dining that’s still family friendly in the Detroit Lakes area. Amazing view, knowledgeable waiters, and fantastic food. I highly recommend the “Trust Me” item on the menu! It’s a chef’s choice, off menu platter. I received a perfectly cooked tri-tip steak full of flavor and a large filet of cod on a bed of rice, with a side of fresh vegetables. If you’re a fish fan, the walleye fries are perfect: crispy, fresh and delicious. I also recommend the meatballs as an appetizer. The Hawaiian chicken was also amazing, crispy coconut coating, and a mango salsa. The king crab leg was a splurge, but it was massive and so full of meat. The daily special menu featured a good selection including a pineapple crusher which tasted like island dreams. The jalepeno margarita was perfect, just enough spice to be enjoyable. I would definitely come back!

Love Spanky’s! The best food and atmosphere, the servers are so nice and wonderful, and the views are great. Can’t wait to be back!

Great date night dining experience!

Year after Year, the Highlight of our Minnesota Fishing Trip is a Spectacular Dining Experience at this Upscale Restaurant! Nestled in a Beautiful Surrounding just adds to the ambience! The Setvice &! Dining is Really something to Relish! Every choice is a Good One- The chefs seem to Always Outdo Themselves!!

After fishing all day, we made reservations for 915 PM. We thought it was just going to be a burger joint. Boy were we wrong. The place is quite expensive, but the food is absolutely worth it. My son had the famous full rack of ribs. Amazing. I had the queen cut prime rib. excellent. The beer cheese soup was amazing. Lots of selections on tap. We spent about $50 per person.

LOVE it here! We came for our anniversary/ my birthday and it was incredible. Some of the best food we’ve ever had. Service was incredible, timing from ordering to receiving our meals was incredible, the food quality was incredible. Just overall extremely pleased.

Will drive out of my way to visit Spanky's! Love their cocktails, apps, steaks and desserts. We always get the walleye fingers to start. Can't go wrong with any steak here -- and they'll cook it "blue" for those who like it served that way!! (Yum). I really enjoyed the lamb lollipops last time I was there. I have tried the 'Trust Me' which can be hit or miss. Their carrot cake is truly the best + the meat market offers the best pork chops in the area!!!

Fantastic ribs; maybe the best I've had in MN!

We try to make it to Spanky’s a couple times a year. The food is outstanding and service is too. We had a young waiter this time and he seemed new. He was fine, just not the service we are used to. Our table had the filet Oscar, trust me, and prime rib. Corking fee was $15, but did not get a cooler to keep the wine chilled, so that is why I’m giving 4 stars. Spanky’s is one of the best values for fine dining!

The dining experience is outstanding. Homemade onion rings, slow-cooked Filet Mignon, Scallops, freshly baked hot popovers with honey butter, baked potatoe and crème brûlée for dessert.

My sister was visiting and wanted a Brandy Akexandet and Walleye. So we picked Spanky’s. We had a great meal and the Brandy Alexanders we're awesome.

Great food. drinks, service and atmosphere

The duck was excellent, the petit filet fell apart in your mouth with great taste and juice. The walleye was great too. Fast service, great food. We'll definitely be back again!

Love this place, the food is amazing and service is always great. Look at the bar when you get there, they have higher end alcohol that is not listed on their drink menu. (Look up high.) Views of the lake are amazing. Try the "Trust Me" on the menu. It is different every time and even if multiple people order it at the same table. Always amazing!!!

This is the best place I have eaten in the area

The past few times I’ve been to Spanky’s Stone Hearth, I have contemplated getting the “Trust Me” entree where the chef chooses your meal, but each time I have chickened out. On our most recent visit, I made my mind up that I was going to give it a try. My only regret now is not doing it sooner! The whole meal was so delicious! We had the nightly feature appetizer of blueberry BBQ ribs which was a perfect blend of sweet and savory. The side I received was a cobb salad with homemade bleu cheese dressing. My surprise entree was a New York strip steak with roasted potatoes & a honey mustard sauce and Cajun style salmon topped with shrimp on a bed of rice. Both the steak and salmon had great flavor and really unique sauces. We tried both the New York style cheesecake and the raspberry peanut butter chocolate ganache cake for dessert. They were both rich & sweet and so good. Our waitress was top notch and always made sure we had everything we needed. Everything from the service to the food to the drinks was fantastic! This restaurant will always be at the top of my list for special occasion dinners.

This is absolutely a wonderful place to go

My hubby said the lobster tail was better than Red Lobster. The filet mignon and new York strip was excellent and the salmon was excellent delicious, all food was delicious, the service was excellent.

We went for the pasta bar, it was so good. Only thing that I would have liked it to be a bit brighter. Kinda hard for me to see the menu. And don't forget to make a reservation, as they are so super busy you may not be able to get a table!

Overpriced and overrated. I’d heard a lot of good things about this place but after my experience I’m not impressed. Our waiter was snobby and our steaks were cooked wrong. I feel like this place is expensive just for the sake of being expensive, but for the price they’re asking I expect actual quality and a bit more class.

Spanky's is a great restaurant with a great atmosphere. I've eaten here numerous times and haven't had anything that wasn't excellent. It's a little higher priced but more than worth it.

10/10 meal! I forgot to take a picture, but I ordered the Hawaiian chicken. I loved the coconut rum sauce that came on top, and the chicken was super crispy. My partner ordered the seafood alfredo and liked it, but said that it was kind of one-note in the flavor department. Very kind staff, and love that you can buy local goods like sausage and pickled carrots when you walk in. I hope they restock their clothing options, was hoping to get a sweatshirt when we visited.

Spanky's consistently has the best food, drinks and service in the lakes area, but tonight was phenomenal!

The new owners are doing a marvelous job maintaining the high quality food and service of this location. I've never had a poor experience here, and the staff is always so friendly and welcoming. The food is phenomenal, and my only complaint would be regret that they no longer offer popovers. The croissants they bring instead are still very delicious, however, and all of the entrées I've tried have been delightful, without fail. A beautiful higher-end restaurant with gorgeous lake views. Definitely recommend the lamb!

I had the "trust me" it was amazing, swordfish, steak, fresh greens, fancy salad and of course the best service in the industry!

We've been coming here once a year for the past 15 yrs or more, and this year was extremely disapointing. The service was exceptional, my NY strip had great flavor and done to a perfect Med-rare, but advertized & priced at 16 ounces, I'd bet it was closer to 12oz before cooking. Two of our friends had the queen cut of prime rib and it was worse than pittiful. I would have been ashamed to serve it. It was cut almost as thin as lunch meat on one end and maybe 3/4 inch thick on the other. They also said it was tough as well. My wife & I have never written a bad review and I would of never dreamt I'd have to write one like this for Spanky's. So sorry, but that was our costly experience.

5 🌟 is not enough! We try to get to Spanky's at least once a year. I tend to lean towards seafood, but the steaks are phenomenal, too. We enjoyed a few appetizers, crafted drinks, and our meal. We were too full for dessert, but I recommend saving room! Service has always been great.

This is an out of the way gem. It has everything. A view, ambiance, great food, super service. I drove from West Fargo just for dinner and will do it again whenever I want to celebrate an occasion or impress a foodie.

Spanky's crushed it the first time my gal and I attended their log cabinesque restaurant. They concentrate on quality and the menu reflects it. The chislic freaking crushed and while I despise mushrooms, the chislic mushrooms were really good. The gal had duck confit which had an excellent woody flavor. I did the Trust Me option where the chef picks what you're eating. I'm 120% glad I trusted, because my first time having swordfish was memorable and it came with a tenderloin medallion. Topped it off with 2 desserts and Spanky's is now in the date night rotation in the top 3 places.

The preferred restaurant in his area. Don't eat at any other establishment when visiting. 5 out of 6 meals at Stone Hearth, no need to go anywhere else. If they were open on Mondays, it would be 6 out of 6 meals.

Food was delicious, service was excellent. Atmosphere was very pleasant would recommend. I havn't been there for perhaps 20 years before my recent visit. Will definitely not wait so long for the next visit. Very good.

Without a doubt, the very best restaurant in this area of the state of Minnesota. Great foods, great ambiance, and great views off the outside deck. Josh is always a great host and chef with very creative variations on all my favorites including rack of lamb.

The food was delicious. We had the Chislic for an appetizer, prime rib, and we shared Crem Brulee, and Raspberry Peanut Butter Chocolate Ganache Cake. The service and atmosphere was amazing as well too. It's pricey but it's worth it for a special occasion.

Ordered the wagyu ribeye for $80.00 and got a tough, flavorless piece of beef that did not taste like steak at all.

I come here for one thing and one thing only. On the menu there is something called “trust me” where the chef chooses what you eat. It’s always a secret and ever the same thing twice. I have been coming here a few times a year for a few years now and I always have the chef surprise me and I’m never EVER disappointed. Tonight I enjoyed a swordfish and a ribeye

Wonderful place for moderate to pricy dining. Completely misnamed. Who would think "Spankys" synonymous with fine dining. Must be a history behind the name. Atmosphere at a 3 star due to noisy, and again confusing...log cabiny/pricy..fine dining/super casual. But food and service were excellent, and the setting on Rose Lake is very pretty. We ate on the deck and had a very nice early evening meal...

Had supper on a Friday evening & the area people are very friendly & helpful. Inside Spankys fine dining restaurant was a great experience on every level. From the hostess to our wait staff & food. The hostess was amazing and sweet with a great sense of humor. Staff was knowledgeable on wine pairing with which food. They had several large groups compared to our small table of 2. Then came the food, smoked prime rib & pistachio crusted salmon. Mouthwatering! Anyway, visit the sassy named Spankys . No regrets!

I've enjoyed the food every time I've been to Spankys, it ranges from "good" to "daaang good" consistently. The appetizers are strong as are the steaks and chops. The bar leaves quite a bit to be desired. It is also consistent, but the range is from "fine" to "ooof, no". You're probably safe ordering a jack and coke, or maybe a gin and tonic, but don't expect much more. The worst attempt at an Old Fashioned I've in years. The ice cream drinks are an exception and were very well executed. Overall a good experience, stick with wine and you'll be in good shape.

First time back to Spanky's with friends in more than 10 years. Short weekend trip to DL where we lived several years ago. Spanky's was a perfect choice. Food and atmosphere are still excellent.

Food was good! We tried just about every app and between the 9 of us we almost the whole menu. Spankys doesn't disappoint. The treatment we got was second to none. The wine list is amazing for northern Minnesota. And we LOVE Christina! Thanks for an awesome birthday!

What a great experience! I visited this establishment the Thursday after the 4th of July...7_6_23... Excellent food and amazing watching this exceptional restaurant perform under HIGH occupancy. I was expecting a long wait for my meal, but all was delivered at a great time, and my meal was totally worth every penny. Reservations are a must and definitely will be back.👍

Went a year ago and the food was provided for our group from a set menu so I didn’t get to try the rest. The service was great, but then again it was a mixture of people now had it been people of color then the experience may of been different. The steak bites they had were really good. First time I’ve ever been. Had a festival going on down the street that had a giant loon statue.

Visiting from out of state, everything was amazing! The "trust me" option was totally amazing along with the banana creme brulee cake 🤤🤤 the piano was a very nice touch for the atmosphere

The overall experience was good. The service was great. Our appetizers were great. We had MN state fair meatballs and chislic, and both were delicious! When it came to dinner, beer cheese soup was amazing as always! Main entrees were where there was some disappointment of the main dish. One of my party ordered the "Trust me" they were very happy with their meal, everything was delicious! Another person of the group ordered the prime rib and was also very pleased with their meal as well. However, when it came to the halibut, it was a huge disappointment it lacked the sweet flavor normally expected with halibut. The server was very kind about the dish and offered to bring out something else. I politely declined any other dish because I had specifically came for the halibut. The head chef came out to the table and explained they had just gotten the halibut in that day, and it was freshly butchered that afternoon, but it was a larger than normal halibut. I agreed to have it made again but to maybe leave the crust of seasoning off and the sauce on the side. It came out fairly quickly, but it was still very disappointing. It completely lacked the normal sweet flavor of halibut. I've had the halibut from spankys before, and normally, it's an absolutely sweet, delicious fish with any seasoning crust. I was looking forward to it when I went there tonight. Sadly, it was a big letdown and tasted nothing like the sweet halibut I'm used to from there. They did try to make it right, but it just wasn't what I'm used to from there. Maybe next time, it'll be better. Otherwise, Morey's it is, and I'll cook my own halibut.

After traveling the world on business trips and eating at amazing restaurants all over the world, I must say that Spanky's provided the best meal and experience I've ever had. Absolutely amazing food! Every course was top notch! We started with the MN State Fair Meatball appetizer. I had the New York Strip Oscar, My wife had the Filet Mignon. Cooked perfectly and amazing flavor. I also tried their Beer Cheese Soup, outstanding. We ended with the New York Cheesecake. Simple dessert but executed perfectly. We also enjoyed a bottle of Moscato with the meal. I would highly recommend this to anyone. While you're there, get a bottle of the BBQ sauce, a family member got me hooked on there BBQ sauce and so we decided to have a meal there for our anniversary. We were not disappointed!

Food tasted great. I will advise that, if you get a steak, you order one place rarer than you actually want. I ordered medium rare, and it was well into medium. Another ordered medium, and it was medium well. Still tasted great, but over done a smidge. The top shelf manhattan is one of the best drinks I've ever had. Highly recommended!!
