One of the best meals we've ever had, in such a lovely setting, with excellent wait staff.

Great food attentive service a bit pricey

The Old Inn on the Green in New Marlborough, Massachusetts offers an exquisite dining experience. We were looking for a high-quality restaurant and could not have been more pleased. What a delight to find a polite, mannered, and responsive staff. to be asked if they may clear our plates instead of the typical “are you still working on it “places this Zagat rated inn a must visit if you are in the area. Their food menu, featuring items such as Risotto, Short Ribs and a Rack of Lamb, is delightful. The Oaxaca cocktail and the Alexander Valley Cabernet are must-tries. The Blueberry Mousse Cake is a perfect ending to the meal. A noteworthy mention is their excellent cappuccino which the staff seem particularly proud of. The Old Inn on the Green is characterized by its pleasant ambiance, free from the hustle and bustle usually associated with restaurants, making it an excellent choice for a quiet, enjoyable dining experience no boom box crowding out the peaceful candle lighted decor.

This is a review for the restaurant only. The ambiance is very cozy. I love the dining by candlelight and fireplace concept. Service was good. The food was ok, but not amazing - especially at the price. The mushroom soup had a lovely texture but was under seasoned . The chicken and beef were fine as were the desserts. Certain components lacked some flavor. I'd recommend going at least once for the experience. I give it 3.5 stars.

Reviewing the restaurant, not the inn. Food is amazing. Apps, mains, dessert, cocktails - all so very good. Service was the definition of professional and comfortable. Really friendly but attentive and on point. The space is unique with candlelight only in the dining rooms. Very romantic. My wife and I have dined here a number of times and every time is phenomenal.

The inn began as a stagecoach stop where riders would exchange tired horses for rested horses to reach their destination as quickly as possible. Today, travelers looking for a historic experience can stay the night or have dinner while admiring the restored interior.

Our stays have always been enjoyable, for the most part, and dinners are always superior... also, the rooms are historic and furnished with antiques, some of which can be comfy. Water pressure in the shower was too low, and this particular bed was very firm. Christmas Lighting outside was beautiful, and room 201 is spacious. It also has its own parking space conveniently near the back entrance with a view of the pool area and nearby wooded areas as well

Been coming to this place for a few years now—restaurant is always a delight. The coziest, warmest atmosphere, great service and exceptional food. The cheese dessert course is sex on a plate.

This little haven of beauty, is the perfect getaway from the city. The inn, built in the 1700’s has all the character and charm you’d expect, with incredible food and warm hospitality. Rooms have giant beds, big bathtubs, wood burning fireplaces and wide planked wooden floors. Peter and Meredith are delightful, and dinner is a multi course treat. This is our favorite place to run away to, and satisfies all the cozy expectations.

Five of us ate at the Inn for dinner the day before a wedding at the Gedeny Farm. All I can say is FANTASTIC. The lobster pasta was amazing - the lamb chops were perfect. The thing I will not forget it the Key Lime tart. It was more like a deconstructed tart - light and fluffy and simply yummy. If I am ever in the area again I hope I can go there - one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Ignore Frank Parish's 3 star review of the food because there must be something wrong with him - lol

You go to a restaurant for the food, right? It's wonderful if it sits in a postcard-perfect New England village, the service is excellent, the cost reasonable, and the ambience is such you expect to find Thoreau and Nathaniel Hawthorne sitting at the bar talking God, nature, and the soul's transgressions. But you go for the food, right? And if it disappoints, you leave disappointed. Right? Well, that's The Old in on the Green.

We came for dinner at the restaurant, which was simply exquisite! The dining room is lit by candlelight and by the fireplace. Our waiter was extremely attentive, anticipating our every need before us, even realizing it! One person in our party was gluten-free, and basically, the entire menu (minus dessert, but there were 2 gluten-free options) could be made gluten-free! I only wish they also had gluten free bread service to make everything equal to non-gouten free service. I highly recommend the risotto, steak, and key like dessert; I will be dreaming of this meal for a while!

We had dinner at the Old Inn on the Green several years ago. It was winter and very cold outside and the dinner by fireplace and candlelight was warm and wonderful. Last night, we returned for an Anniversary dinner. The food and service was amazing. The candlelight sets the mood for the sumptuous meal that follows. It was a wonderful time.

We were very disappointed with our stay at the Old Inn. The prices suggest a luxurious stay, but we found our rooms in gross disrepair. There were many insects living in our bathroom and we had a very uncomfortable bed and room altogether. There was a large hole in the bathroom ceiling which clearly was the home of many black flies. I can't believe no one has complained about this before, and we will certainly never be returning.

Fantastic winter spot for a special dinner.

This is a dining review: if I could give this 6/5 stars, I would. My husband and I came here 3 years ago at the start of our honeymoon and remembered excellent service, a delicious meal, and an intimate and romantic setting. We decided to come back for our 3rd anniversary (and planned our trip back to the Berkshires specifically to eat here) and were so happy to find that after all this time our experience remained true to our memory. The hospitality was genuine and accommodating, the food was delectable and the ambiance was charming. This is one of the few memorable meals we've had and wish we could share the experience with everyone we love. We will be back soon!

I have never stayed here, but I did have dinner here. It's $75 per person for 3 courses. The food is good. Sadly I didn't have anything worth running back for.

Wow. What a timeless and romantic experience. My husband surprised me with the candlelit dinner here for our anniversary. We truly felt like we stepped back in time. The food and service were magnificent. I already look forward to going back.

We had a wonderful dinner from beginning to end. The menu choices were delicious and the service was attentive and knowledgeable. There was a large event in the back which thankfully did not detract from the personal touches and excellent food preparation. We were very impressed.

Had an amazing dinner for my mother's 87th birthday. Matthew, our server, was as wonderful as the food. It is difficult to find a restaurant where you enjoy every single course. Our dinner was perfection, from the appetizers to the entrees to the unbelievable desserts. Thank you for making my mom so happy. Oh, and we will be back!

We found this place on a quick Google search of best dinner spots near great Barrington. I was very surprised when we arrived at how nice this place was, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. We had three courses of very interesting, delicious food. We were one of the first to arrive after it opened so our meals were served very quickly.

A real treat. The food was exceptional and creatively prepared, making for a memorable dining experience. Despite the cold January temperatures we were warm and toasty near the fireplace. The rooms are lit only by the fires and candlelight, which reinforces the historic feel of the inn. Our server was very attentive and engaged, sharing information about the inn itself, the artist who created the dinner ware, and the recommended aperitifs. Everyone on staff was warm and friendly. We already have plans to return.

Will come back to let everyone know how my stay was on Tues dinner was interesting very good but I left still alittle hungary.i brought my service dog who is a frenchie and they lived him...he ate a beautiful steak and my girlfriend and I ate sal.on which was delightful...my dog was treated as though he was a person and live every waiter in the inn..WOULD I GO AGAIN..YES..im hoping my stay this weekend is nice..im bringing my mom who is 94...I will fill everyone in when I come bk hm...

Lovely atmosphere and excellent service. The food was delicious, the corn risotto was a particular hit as was the lamb shank. Nice wine list (no beer or cocktails but they mentioned they did have a full bar).

This was such an amazing experience! The dinner was fantastic!! The inn was comfortable!! New Marlborough is in a remote location with amazing trails and my cell service shut down (which I view as a forced benefit!!) it was just what we needed!!

I was not prepared for the quality and level of food. It was the only restaurant that my professional culinary chef recommended in the area. And deservedly so! A quaint setting, think rustic farmhouse with a fireplace roaring and eating by candlelight. The setting is a far cry from Beverly Hills posh, but for New England it is totally fitting and appropriate. Service was professional, like only the best NYC restaurants. Once you have experienced the casual non professional waitstaff in Berkshires, ( along with highly unjustified prices) you will appreciate it even more. Every course was a winner along with special treats from the kitchen. When getting a price-fix meal you are always mentally prepared for that one item that didn't completely hit the mark, not so here. Desert with tea was spectacular, we would drive a half hour just to indulge once things return to normal. This has to be the best of the Berkshires!

Fabulous place. The food was truly exceptional and made with real passion. There's terrible cell reception in that part of the Berkshires so getting there and back can be tricky, but once you're there it's worth it.

This is our favorite restaurant, serving delicious meals with attentive service. It is located in a charming 18th C inn with candlelight rooms, warming fires and uniquely imaginative decorations.

We ordered the salmon and the veal. Salmon was ok, but nothing extraordinary. The veal dish on the other hand was absolutely the best I've ever had in a long time. The wine list is decent and the ambience is really romantic, I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

This is for the restaurant. The food was terrific. Every dish that we had cooked superbly and with care. Dinner, there's an experience and one that will create the most memorable occasion.

My wife and I really enjoyed dining here!They serve fantastic and delicious dishes with affordable prices. Ian our server was very kind and well-trained and he provided excellent service. It was cozy and very romantic. When it comes to their dish, try their steak frites and for desserts their apple crisp! You will absolutely love it!

A special location found by searching farm to table. It was well into the evening for our reservation but that only added to the candle-lit ambiance. The service was personable and professional, the food was excellent. It truly made every other dinner we had in the Berkshires put to shame. Combine that with our love of old homes...there were soot marks over the fireplaces and hints of light shining through the floor boards. Mains: Steak frites with fries, sprouts, onion puree and truffle mayo; Maine halibut with gnocchi, corn, porcini mushrooms, squash and artichoke roasted red bell pepper sauce. Dessert: Trio of sorbets and Honey crisp apple tart tatin with vanilla gelato. Thanks to the bartender for the gratis birthday Drambuie. # I'd give this Inn's restaurant four and a half stars if there was a half star option. Truly fine cuisine. Our dinners were delicious. The prix fixe menu includes three courses - an appetizer, main entrée and dessert - for $55.00 per person. A special occasion for my partner and I brought us to this part of Massachusetts and never eating here before, we were happily surprised. Diners were not seated in the many elegant but vacant candle lit dining rooms, but in a large white outdoor enclosed tent. White clothed tables with hurricane lamps or candles are socially distanced on the grass lawn. Mini light strips lining the tents ceiling provide additional intimate glow and atmosphere. The Chef here excelled in the preparation of our two meat dishes: grilled sirloin and slow braised shortrib with fingerling potatoes, and parsley crusted rack of Colorado lamb with carrots and crispy chick peas. (the lamb had a $15.00 supplement) The meats were amazing in quality and flavor. The shortrib tender as butter, the two lamb chops perfectly cooked, moist and succulent. This is another dinner, as I note on occasion in previous reviews, I could eat every week. Enjoying our cocktails and house bread after ordering, a waiter brought us a bonus mini-plate of a roasted beet terrine with goat cheese before our first course. This showed us we were definitely going to enjoy a gourmet meal. My partner's starter, Maine lobster and Halibut ceviche with peach salsa, crispy wonton, arugula and balsamic reduction was bright and satisfying. (this item had a $5.00 supplement.) A nice summertime choice. I tried the warm cremini mushroom soup with truffle essence, parsley and chives. This was the weakest dish of our six. It was lacking somehow. Maybe some actual mushrooms in the blended purée, or even a couple as a garnish would have made it more fulfilling. Truffle oil has to be used with a light hand, and with this soup it was easily detected. It was okay, there is just room for improvement from such a fine Chef. Next time I'll try the Caesar salad, as it's made as it should be with white anchovies.I'm surprised how many versions of this classic are made and sold without this essential ingredient. Desserts were good. My partner enjoyed his flourless chocolate cake with crème anglaise and pistachio gelato. It is decadent. The cake is more like a large dark chocolate truffle in taste and consistency to me. I had the buttermilk panna cotta with blueberries and blackberry lime sauce. The ratio of blueberries to panna cotta was off balance. Too many blueberries though I'm sure that is the healthier ratio. Still, a tasty treat. My coffee was brought to the table in a small French press carafe and my partner's tea was beautifuly steeped in its own little pot. Classy presentations from start to finish. The service throughout our meal was pleasant and timely. After dinner, we sat outside on the Inn's long front porch to enjoy the warm evening. We look forward to returning.

Dinner package was good. The rest of the lunch package was awful , down the road to a subshop . Breakfast was Continental type but nothing special .

A super special, old world charm hotel with spectacular dining. The building and rooms are incredibly well-maintained in the original style and the aroma of wood and wood burning stoves greets you as warmly as the staff. In the summer, there's a lovely outdoor pool to enjoy, although we hope to return in winter to cosy up by the fires in the plentiful reading rooms. Breakfast is a delicious array of fruits and locally made pastries. Be ready to be offline as the wifi and reception are not great, but all this can add to a truly restful break.

Didn’t stay at the hotel but my girlfriend and I had dinner last night. We were greeted promptly, by name too. Seated immediately and the dinner was awesome! Ambiance was perfect. Candlelight was perfect. I had the duck and she had the salmon. The service was perfect and the food was AWESOME!! Kudos to the chef.. my duck was cooked and presented perfectly! Her salmon was done the same. Dessert was awesome and we don’t have sweet tooth’s. We WILL be back and a big shout out to the staff... EXCELLENT JOB!! Thanks again for a memorable evening and we cannot wait to return.

Just a lovely place. Candlelit tables in an historic old building with an attentive staff and simply delicious food. What's not to love? We had an assortment of appetizers plus a dessert and each one was scrumptious. Pricey, but certainly worth it for a splurge!

This was our first time here and it won't be our last. We loved the atmosphere. The cuisine was amazing, the service 5 star. We highly recommend this establishment for a romantic dinner or a great place to gather with friends or family. They even have a few rooms that you can book for a great weekend getaway!!

Great staff, friendly and inviting. Place is beautiful and is nice and quiet. Went there in the winter and was very comfortable even in the snow. The town's in the area are nice and quaint. Definitely recommend visiting.

An absolutely delicious meal, and the staff makes you feel as though you are their most important table. The little extras, appetizer and amuse-bouche, take it from fine dining to a dining experience, one that you will remember for some time.

Our waitress was very kind, and the seating on the patio was quite relaxing. Our prix fixe dinner was excellent, as well. Highly recommended. A bit remote, but that's part of the draw I suppose

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for five years now and it’s one of our favorite places in the world, truly. This weekend, we stayed in their second on property home with our two Labrador Retrievers and it was exquisite. The room is a lovely blend of colonial charm and modern amenities. Come here if you are looking to enter a world where time slows down intentionally and leaves time for connecting, reflecting, and relaxing. We’ve seen people who live rushed lives and/or can’t slow down be frustrated by this pace at the restaurant but it’s reassuring to us that we’re in the right place. There are also lovely state parks and conservation land nearby that make for the perfect respite. Regarding the food, the cocktails and bar are exquisite, super wine list, and we have never been disappointed in the restaurant. It feels like being in another time as things slow down and there is no electricity in the dining room - just fireplaces and candelight. We will be back as often as we can! Thanks for Peter and his staff for the great time and service.

Amazing place. We were there for our company Christmas party and spent the night. The food was incredible we had the tasting and every course was absolutely on point. We also had two vegetarians in our party and they were very accommodating to thier needs. The room was beautiful as well comfortable and roomy. I will definitely be back.

My friends are I went here for a few days and it was fabulous! We definitely will go back! So country and beautiful there - lots of hiking!!! Our family ( party of 13) gathered to celebrate our mothers 90th birthday this evening. The staff was friendly and attentive. The meal was a delight. Exellent fare and sevice. Extra time was taken to provide for me ( the only vegetarian in the group) with my chosen food choices . I appreciate all the time and extra effort our servers went to to take care of our large party. Deffinately a memorable evening for our special event. Many thanks! The Swanson family

Service was outstanding. Our waiter was very unpretentious and down to Earth. We didn't realize until we arrived and were seated that the menu for the night was pre fixe...this made for a more expensive meal than we had initially intended, which was a little disconcerting. Our fellow diners were obnoxious in the way only the rich can be, and it became tough to ignore their conversations at fimes, but I guess that's to be expected at a place like this. The inn is very old, and we dined by candlelight, which was romantic, but it was almost too dark in the restaurant. Our meals were delicious, but again that mandatory pre fixe wasn't exactly what we were expecting. We probably won't come back here again if we ever get back to the Berkshires, but the experience was worth having once.

Fantastic food, beautiful location and perfect ambiance.

Beautiful room and setting, but bad communication. A few guests mentioned that they didn't know how check out or breakfast worked. In the end a great place to stay if you can handle having no cell service, spotty Wi-Fi and having to ask a lot of questions.

We stayed at the inn on a weeknight in midsummer. Highlights were a dip in the pool surrounded by espaliered fruit trees, and good local advice from the friendly and professional hosts. As promised, we had a comfortable, well-furnished room in the Thayer annex and beautifully presented Continental breakfast. I left a favorite garment behind and hosts cheerfully arranged its return We look forward to another visit.

Absolute best food, staff and ambiance in the Berkshires and beyond. The Old Inn is a very special place and is a destination in and of itself.

The food was excellent, although there was no meat at the breakfast buffet (but the baked goods were off the charts). Also the walls are a bit thin so if you're planning a passionate night of lovemaking it can be a bit awkward. The staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable about local sites.
