Great resort on top of a mountain. Rooms are quaint with all the amenities you need in the mountains (no tv). Awesome meals and plenty of food, superb customer service, and a stone's throw from the Great Smoky National Park. Highly recommended! You need to see to believe and appreciate all The Swag has to offer.

A beautiful special place to spend some time !!

Won't see me there and won't recommend based on employees. Reservation/registration representative Hannah's behavior is not in line with a place that charges and touts to be elite. Her language is vulger, she's immature, she says one thing and does another, she's dishonest. Don't want to associate with her or anything she represents.

We absolutely loved the Swag! Every detail was so charming, the staff were personable and made us feel special, and the food was to die for. We had a great hike with the experts in residence and enjoyed the sunrise over the mountains with fresh coffee in hand. We will definitely be coming back - such a restful retreat!

The Swag is a place that’s difficult to describe. The best way I can explain it is an all inclusive, experience with beautiful hikes, scenic views, and wonderful people catering to your every need. I never thought I would get to experience something like the Swag and I hope everyone gets to experience something like it in their lifetime Every single person on the staff that I encountered was nothing but kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Brooks greeted us with kindness and positivity when we first arrived which set an overall positive tone for the rest of our trip. Mark gave us an in depth tour of the Swag, complete with the history of the place. He made us feel at home from the start. He also made the most thoughtful announcements each night before dinner which was something I’ve never experienced anywhere else. Sandra was so kind and not to mention funny. She even got me the name of a hair product I was looking for. JR and Haley were our waiter and waitress at dinner time each night. They were knowledgeable about the menu and just had overall amazing attitudes. Will called for us to be picked up when we came out the wrong end of one of our hikes. And Luke took time out of his day to drive us back. He didn’t make it seem like an inconvenience; but instead gave us an in depth history of the Swag on the drive back. Benji was the barista who never disappointed with his delicious drinks. He even offered to give us a lesson on how he made them. We’re now trying to recreate them ourselves but cannot compete with Benji’s skills. The food was beyond delicious. Every single meal was wonderful and so well thought out. Even the presentation was beautiful. It was some of the best food I’ve ever had. The care and preparation that went into it didn’t go unnoticed. I will never forget my amazing experience at the Swag and all the people who made it such a fun, special time for us. We made memories there that will last a lifetime. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! There’s nothing better than gorgeous views, good hiking, delicious food, and kind people!

We travel the world and this was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. Worth every penny. Staff is absolutely incredible.

Absolutely beautiful!! After you pass thru the gate, it's a couple mile drive around the ridge top. I remember visiting to eat as a kid in the 1970. It's completely the same, but it's been completely upgraded and updated. They have fully restored the Cabins, greeting, house, kitchen, and lodge. Shick Builder's have done an amazing job with Davids attention to detail. The hiking trails are the same, so make sure to go to the meadow.

I booked a two night stay at the Swag for my husband's birthday. It was a perfect all-inclusive experience. I recommend coming during a warmer climate so you can have the full enjoyment of the grounds and all the amenities. If you are a foodie, please bring your appetite and pace yourself! Continental breakfasts, elaborate brunches, bbq picnics, hourdurves before a dinner with many courses. I brought tip money with me, but they strongly discouraged tipping. They suggested tipping at checkout. Nonetheless, it was the best service I have ever experienced. Consistent housekeeping with turndown service. I loved all the staff. It was worth the cost.

This is an amazing place and there is not a thing we'd change. True Southern hospitality in a pampering package at every turn. The Bishops room was fabulous! (And the massages even better!) Highly recommend!

Personalized luxury experience. Incredible views. All service top notch. Amazing culinary experience using local ingredients. Main lodge is straight out of a Christmas movie, yet more authentic. Great for peace and quiet, no TVs. Spa is relaxing, outdoor hot tubs overlook the mountains. Hemphill Bald hike gives you panoramic views of the Great Smoky mountains and beyond. Glad we found this place

The entire experience was absolutely incredible. From the welcome by Mark and Jim and the tour of the property when we first got there - we knew it was going to be an experience that was much better than we had expected. And with the price point - we had high expectations. Everyone knew our names and we got to know the staff quickly along with several guests and looked forward to activities and meals. We really enjoyed the group of guests we were with. Accommodations: We stayed in Trillium, incredible accommodation - private, 2 baths, 2 outside sitting areas, close to main house and over the top decor - simple beautiful. Only downside, no view but INCREDIBLY private. We had friends in Gails Room, beautiful views, but not as private... Food: The food was delicious, thoughtful and well prepared - we did not have ONE bad meal, and that is saying a lot - they feed you 3 full meals a day with many snacks and drinks in between. I have a food allergy and at EVERY meal, they noted it and adjusted my meal. Get the SWAG bars, trust me.... Spa: I had a massage in the "Still" and highly recommend Tina, it was a soothing, calming experience. The spa is small but well appointed and exactly what I needed. Activities: We tried to ride horses, but it was booked. We took hikes everyday - using the Nature Trail, Hemphill Bald and the Purchase Knob trails. We had Janet and Steve as our "experts in residence" and we LOVED their hikes - knowledgeable, funny and felt like 30 minutes as apposed to 3 hours! Hiking sticks were a nice touch. SUNRISE; If there is one activity that is a MUST do, it is sunrise on Gooseberry Knob. Trust me, it is a spiritual experience. We had a glitch with our reservation and the staff (Hannah and Will) took care of it immediately and were gracious and thoughtful about the mistake. I cannot say enough about this resort, we will be going back hopefully in the fall. Last note - I hope it remains small - there was talk of expanding and adding cabins - I SINCERELY hope it does not get bigger - the intimate experience and getting to know everyone staying there made the experience more memorable.

Loved the Swag. Felt like fancy summer camp. You’re out in nature with incredible access to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, lots of hiking trails, ways to be active, and beautiful mountain views. The food was outstanding - fresh and delicious. The staff took great care to get to know us and make sure all guests have a comfortable stay. We had an overall wonderful time. I only wish we could have stayed longer.

I can highly recommend the dinner experience at the Swag. It is a top notch evening, from the first moment to the last. The view, property, staff, customer service, food, ambiance, history and socializing are all stellar. For any occasion, or none at all, dinner here is a sure bet. Guests have been returning here, satisfied, for decades. I am grateful to Jim, Kirsten, Nick, Tammy, Hannah, Courtney, and the entire staff for a perfect evening.

Great place to enjoy the North Carolina mountains. The food and staff are fantastic. The hiking both on the grounds and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park make a wonderful experience. We have visited multiple times see many old friends on each visit.

Dinner with a small group... fabulous! A very sweet knowledgeable young woman took us on a tour of the facilities when we arrived. You pick your entrees and deserts earlier that day in communication with Chef. It just could not be any more top notch :)

It is said nothing is perfect, if that’s true, The Swag is as close as you can get. From the moment the gate opens upon your arrival, and you drive the scenic, winding road up the mountain, until you leave, you are treated with love by the most professional, kind hearted staff I have ever encountered. We honeymooned here, and were amazed that it was even more magical 30 years later. The rooms are pristine and like no others. The menu that changes daily is phenomenal….I’ll miss making my daily selections. We had an “Expert in Residence” that not only entertained and guided us, but also educated us about the property and the mountains surrounding us. As we checked out, there was no hesitation when we were asked if we would like to rebook for next year. It’s not just a vacation it’s an experience worth every penny.

We went for an anniversary dinner. Went on a Thursday night for Bluegrass and Barbeque. Amazing ride up the mountain to the property. Attentive staff give you a quick tour of the lodge and dining room areas. Hors d'oeuvres week great and have guests a chance to mingle while listening to the music. The food setting were great; the staff was very attentive and friendly. It was definitely worth the splurge for a special night out.

Lovely anniversary dinner with gracious and attending staff; food was superb, bar was superior with both stock and mixologist! Lovely Smoky Mountain setting, with over the top thoughtfulness to make your visit extraordinary! Owner is delightful and we will return for another special occasion! (Did not stay overnight, as we are locals - but certainly would if we were not!).

Super attentive staff and first class facility. Everyone went out of their ways to make the stay memorable and luxurious. Awesome - loved it.

Amazing staff! Amazing atmosphere! Amazing delicious food! Let me tell you about this place! This place feels like coming home! The staff…. Every single one of them make you feel like you are at home! They make sure everything is perfect! The facilities are beautiful and very well taken care of. Perfect place to get away to! This place is first class all the way! The ambiance and customer service are next level. From the moment you arrive, you can tell this place is very special, as it feels very intimate and luxurious. We cannot wait to come back. After experiencing it myself, it is no wonder that guests return year after year. The food and drinks were great as well. There is no way you will go hungry here. In fact you will be full nearly 24/7 with the amount of food and treats offered throughout the day. I will never forget this weekend getaway!

The most beautiful, awesome resort in the area. A little hard to get to... Best have a four wheel drive.

We went for dinner only since we live locally. The signage was great since the GPS was taking us a round about. The Swag was at full capacity but had room for us at dinner. The views were wonderful at 5,000 ft, the service was very friendly, and the Chef created great dishes. It’s certainly a great place for a special dinner, $$$$.

We had an amazing trip to The Swag! Chef Jake and Chef Josh exceeded all expectations, as did Michelle and Will. The owners have done an incredible job of taking the property to the next level. Can't wait to go back!

Just really great in every way. Food is AMAZING, customer service is off the charts, but not in a snooty way. The altitude of 5000 feet = about a 15 degree drop in temperature from the Triangle area of NC. Rooms are very nice, kind of a chic rustic feel. Very restful and very relaxing.

EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! OH MY GOODNESS, THIS HAS TO BE THE GREATEST PLACE ON EARTH!!! We came up to stay for our 10th anniversary and it was far beyond what we expected! The staff, the location, the rooms, the food, the hospitality was all top notch!!!!!!!! Extremely perosnable and everyone there was SO nice!! You can tell each of them take a lot of pride in what they do! The entire place is incredible! I had a 90 minute massage by Angie and she was absolutely excellent!!!! I've had some great massages but she really put her heart and soul into it! She fits in here with everyone else and is perfect in every way!! Thank you all so much for making our 10th anniversary even more special!! Sam

Went to the Swag for the first time for an overnight stay this past weekend. I have to share that I've never had a better experience at any other vacation property. The staff is so incredibly friendly and you can just tell how proud they are to provide such a unique, wonderful experience to their guests. I had a message by Heather and WOW she did such an amazing job. She was very attentive to my needs, regularly checked in with me on how I was doing and I felt so amazing after my massage. Thank you to all the staff at the Swag, I wish more vacation experiences were as unforgettable as this one was!

Heaven on earth. We came here for an anniversary 9 years ago and can’t believe it took us this long to come back. The most beautiful property, delicious food, and miles of gorgeous trails In which you can work off those calories. A retired park ranger is the expert in residence and she leads guided hikes where you will about plants and animals. The new owners have taken a perfect place and somehow made it more perfect.

This place is one of a kind. The service and staff is the best. Treat yourself to The Swag you won't regret it
