Great place, wish we had a place like this on Cape Cod

How did I not know about this place? It was so good and we will be coming back. Everything from the service to the food was amazing! There are so many good options and we can’t wait to come back when the menu changes. The mung bean crepe with pork confit was spectacular. The flavors were great. The mock tails were just OK, didn’t have a ton of flavor for the price. Vegetarian asparagus pasta was so good (size pictured is a half-plate and that was enough for me to split with my wife). For the main dish, we got the braise short beef rib, and the halibut. I never order fish, because I’m so nervous it will taste fishy but it didn’t at all. The flavor combos with the fish were spot on. The space was a little bit smaller than expected which is fine, just informing. By the time the 7 o’clock reservations all showed up, the place didn’t get quite noisy.

Waxwing is a hidden gem! Can’t believe I hadn’t been here before. We were immediately greeted when we came in and loved the laid back atmosphere. The room is quaint and cozy and the tables were situated well. The music selection was also great! We tried a little bit of everything, shared each course and were absolutely blown away. The fried oysters were delicious, the asparagus with sticky rice was creative and unique, we followed that up with the pork confit that was incredible! We then tried the vegetarian carbonara but the star of the show were the short ribs and potato puree. That puree should be sold on its own. We loved it. The short ribs were SO tender! We finished our meal by enjoying the key lime panna cotta and chocolate cake! This place was so great! We’ll definitely be back!

My favorite restaurant in Western Mass! Amazing food every time. Menu changes frequently and is seasonal. I’ve never had a dish I didn’t absolutely love.

My new favorite restaurant! Went to Waxwing for the first time tonight. We shared the oysters, green salad, pasta Bolognese and Fluke special, chocolate torte, butterscotch pot de creme Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. Great craft cocktail options and wine. The atmosphere was very intimate, the music was great, the service was exceptional. Did I say the service was exceptional? We felt very attended to from the minute we walked through the door. Very welcoming.

The best food in the area. Amazing staff and service. This is my favorite place to eat. I can't say enough great things.

AMAZING experience. Will be the first to admit, as a French man who traveled all over the world, it is hard to impress me. I had not been BLOWN AWAY by food like this in YEARS! Chef Paul and Kristina (bartender/server extraordinaire) were FANTASTIC!! In the very short time it will take for this place to BLOW UP in popularity, I suggest eating there AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. When they get their first Michelin star, it will be harder to do so 🤷🏾

The energy and excitement and creativity of the staff at Waxwing cannot be contained!! This buzz is naturally reflected in patrons visiting the restaurant, so be prepared for quite the hubbub in the main room- not a place for a "quiet romantic gathering." That said, I love Waxwing: the creativity in food prep is superlative, as well as the kitchen staff's attention to detail. Yum to the 10th degree! Love the different, varied wine menu, with selections you won't find elsewhere. For instance, I love Langedocs, from southern France... and they have 3 on their wine list. Do not go there and complain about prices, please! This kind of quality and attention comes at a price. Go there and celebrate good food unabashedly! (i.e., without concern for price!) May they live long and prosper!!

I had dinner there earlier tonight for my birthday. Service was top notch as usual and I had the duck, which was a special this evening, and it was phenomenal. I don't usually write reviews but this genuinely was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I cannot recommend enough.

The waxwing restaurant in Hatfield never disappoints. We have been going to this gem of a restaurant for years. From your first cocktail until dessert you're treated with unexpected flavor explosions. Each dish is meticulously prepared. Tonight we had the opportunity to partake in their Asian inspired tasting menu. I think I had the best lobster and scallops I've ever eaten! But honestly, it's hard to choose a favorite. If you're looking for delicious, creative and consistently good food; go enjoy Waxwing.

Surprisingly comfortable ambiance on the inside of a not so plain ranch. Pros: Comfortable nook's, exceptional teamwork in the service area, as well as presentation and great food, with seasoning choices that enhance the main courses & just may make you swoon with each bite. Cons: French Pressed Coffee was lacking the aroma and taste it's known for. Slightly Overpriced, but appetizers and main course are fresh ingredients enhanced with flavorful and unique combinations. Desserts were mediocre at best definitely not the same magic found in appetizers or the main entree. A total skip with the coffee next time; but I would go again.

I've been meaning to write this review for a while now- - - - Delicious - thoughtful - on point food. 1000% ~crispy oysters, escargot, striped bass, ribeye, and shishito peppers ~ - The cocktails are carefully crafted, creative, and refreshing ~~ - Desserts are YUM. ~ chocolate mousse trifle with local strawberries, chocolate torte, crème brûlée ~~ - Great atmosphere with a small crew of people who are attentive and create a comfortable, fun, and lively environment for everyone eating there. -Official Regular-

What a gem. The atmosphere is lovely in this family-run restaurant. But the food is incredible! It's fresh, unique, and prepared beautifully. I can't wait to go back!

I seldom write a negative review and have written many reviews. Sorry this one warranted a negative one. We were disapointed. Cramped tables. The wall AC struggled to cool the room. Waitstaff asked us to get our order in quickly. (Thursday 6:00 seating) The cook reprimanded us for trying to block the sun shining in our faces. It was not the leisurely evening we had hoped for with friends. We had 3 drinks, 3 salads 3 rigatoni, 1 duck order and 2 deserts for the 4 of us. The bill came to $215 plus a $40 tip. Not worth it for a roadside cafe. We will not be back.

This amazing restaurant is a gem. They were busy and still took us in without a reservation (recommend having a reservation). They welcomed us and went out of their way to made us feel like regulars. The staff is amazing and very friendly. The food is absolutely incredible. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! Thank you for the beautiful experience.

A nice little tavern with good food and service. The decorations for valentines day are pleasing. The food is tasty but not really reach the level of our expectation given the price, but anyway it seems to be the best overall dinner option in the area.

I’d love the food and love the vibes there

First time there, great service!! Welcomed enthusiastically. Had apps and drinks at the bar. Fried oysters with Kitchmi were awesome. The Hoisin wings were tasty. The vibe is great. A little pricey but worth it. Reservations are definitely needed, we lucked out since we went late.

Waxwing is a phenomenal restaurant. We enjoyed everything we ordered and the staff were wonderful. Can’t wait to go back!

Amazing and Unique Experience. Delicious and great take on the beloved Indian Samosa. Nice ambiance with friendly and attentive staff. Had eggplant as main dish and it was fresh!! No odd taste or questionable plating. Nothing we tried or ate was overpowering - nice balance of flavors and after taste. A sole, focused and true to his craft chef creates all dishes and each one truly worth the wait. Highly recommend by 2 very picky eaters. Strictly vegetarian and a meat and potatoes guy. I am willing to bet Gordon Ramsay would approve of dishes and the original take by chef Paul.

Fantastic food and service. I travel quite a bit, all over the world for work and life - and eat out an insane amount. It's rare when a place is a memorable standout, Waxwing is one of the few. Cherry Bomb cocktail, pork belly app, caprese app and chicken schnitzel entree. All extremely well presented with well paired garnishes for texture and taste, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Whenever I find myself in the area I'll be sure to make a detour and stop for a meal.

Wonderful food and atmosphere. Highly recommend! My fiancé and I had a lovely evening at Waxwing Cafe. We live in Somerville, MA and were visiting for a show in Springfield. The food was upscale but the vibe was casual and comfortable. From the outside, the restaurant itself looks like someone’s house in the middle of a rural neighborhood. The staff was lovely and fun! Everything was delicious. We started with a perfect white wine from Portugal that one of the head staff recommended. For food, we started with shishito peppers and a caprese bite appetizer. We also shared a Caesar salad, cauliflower Carbonara with mushrooms and peas, and duck with polenta. My favorite was the Carbonara— and I’m Italian from NY and have had Carbonara in Italy. Was very impressed! My fiancé’s favorite was the duck, and he’s just a picky dude. We finished with a desert coffee martini (yum!), and a chocolate ganache almond something something. Perfection. We highly recommend this restaurant if you live in the area or are visiting the adorable town of Northampton!

Delicious; appetizers, dinner, beverages. Avoid post sunset outside, mosquitoes.

Not sure what the fuss is all about. The bouche amuse was a tiny chickpea 'pancake' wedge with almond cream and pesto. Did not care for the texture of the pancake. We had the blistered peppers and corn aioli which was good. Calamari was good. Caesar salad was dry...not enough anchovies nor dressing. Eggplant katsama was OK...spinach on top was great...but cold. Rigatoni with zucchini/mint was lackluster and needed salt. Service was impeccable! But would not return unless someone can suggest other items on the menu. Great cocktails.

If you are looking for some of the most elevated food in the Valley - this is it. With all of the ease and chill of an establishment only Paul and Amy could deliver - Waxwing is as close to that family feel as you’re gonna get with fine cuisine. I don’t know how they do it - but it’s truly seamless.

Delicious- every single sip and every single bite

First time on a first date everything went very well staff were not intrusive and the food was very good. Neither of had been before, both would go back.

Just had the pleasure of eating at Waxwing and it was delightful! Walking into the restaurant I was impressed by the decor and an impressive bar. We called ahead for the 5 course tasting menu with cocktail pairings, and both food and cocktails delivered! Bring an appetite because this tasting menu will fill you up! Highly recommend this restaurant for both food and drinks!

Tonight was our first experience at The Waxwing, and we have one word: PHENOMENAL. We tried food items we were not that familiar with and everything was cooked perfectly. The flavor profiles were spot on! This will be our NEW spot, for sure!

Paul is an amazing chef. Creative and agile in spite of the current environment. Highly recommend for a great meal. His multi-course dinners are always a treat as well as his family dinners. Don't be fooled by the humble surroundings, a treat for any occasion, or none at all.

Unbelievable little spot. The menu looked great online so my fiancé and I figured we would try it out and the menu doesn’t even do it justice. Fast, friendly, and fair pricing. Bloody Mary might be the best one I have ever had, and the steak and eggs were perfect as well, had some kind of green sauce on them that was a great compliment. Fiancé got an omelette with duck which was also very good. Will be back to try dinner for sure.

I don't often write a review. My son suggested THE WAXWING as a place to have some great food. My wife and I decided to give it a try. We made reservations and showed up on time. We were escorted to a large tent, with chairs and tables all set up at least six feet apart. Very soon after we sat down, a carafe of water and ice was brought to our table. I very short time later, we were asked for our drink orders. We were also given a very different food menu. Everything on the menu sounded great. We ordered two different meals. We shared our meals. Both meals were excellent. I will be back, and I will be telling all my good friends about the superb WAXWING Restaurant. They unexpectedly brought us a delicious cup of broth. (excellent) We ordered cod and clam cakes, chicken schnitzel, A fish meal of cod. (WAXWING is the practice of giving to others for their benefit and not your own. politeness.)

Great food and the owner is super nice!

We’ve eaten here several times and continue to be amazed by the exquisite cuisine and caring service at Waxwing. The imaginative cocktails, bites, apps, entrees and desserts continue to impress each time the menu transitions with the seasons. Paul and Amy have also taken into consideration every detail to make their diners feel safe during these crazy times. Waxwing gets an A++ in all of our expectations! Thank you!!!

I'm from Hatfield so I had to try the new local farm to table restaurant. The food was super delicious. I ordered the short ribs both times that I ordered because they were so divine, but the menu looks solid overall. I was also able to order drinks to-go. Which was nice because they had a large selection. After having issues ordering from the Whately Inn, I realized this place is closer, locally sourced, and I'm definitely getting my money's worth. Plus, the couple that runs it were very nice. I am so pleased they came to town, and are so close on 5&10.

Never disappointing and always Delicious!!!

Worth the trip worth a stop. We decided to get a few things from the menu to sample. We ordered hash, French toast, and a bacon egg and cheese. They were all perfectly executed and hit the spot.

From a post to a friend!..... Can we talk about the waxwing? ........ simply astounding!! Chef Paul has outdone himself. We ate through the entire menu ( carefully guided by our server) and left full, happy and satisfied...... but by no means comatose!!! Such an incredibly designed menu! Great beer list . Wine list and cocktails! Just do it!!

Great cozy cafe. Nice vibe. Appetizers ok but all the main courses are way above the pay grade for the region. Love is put into every dish and the chef is amazing.
