One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had, will absolutely be coming back on my next trip to Chicago. The coffee is also excellent for drip coffee.

I was really exited to go back here again. Luckily waited only 3min in line; when we finished, the line extended outside. I was rooting for this place... I still am because I want to support so wanted to let them know the bangus had no flavor whatsoever. It was so bland, I should have guessed from how pale the fish looked. No soy sauce, fish sauce, vinegar, garlic taste. I asked for soy sauce and I was disappointed I paid for the large one which I didn't finish coz it just tasted like fish with salt. I didn't want to be rude and return it. Also, longanisa was dry and it could have been cooked more imo. I appreciated the complimentary lugaw (porridge), which my non filipino friend liked and ate. Overall okay. Pls check on your large bangus seasoning and I'd be happy to return and support as I don't live far.

I love this place! Every time I come to Chicago, I don’t care what I’m here for, I’m stopping by Uncle mikes! They’re also consistently good, every time! I usually get the skirt steak and baby bangus - which is the perfect combo for anyone craving a good Filipino bangus but not wanting to miss the opportunity to try their famous steak haha

Enjoyed the lugaw, loganisa, bangus, and garlic rice a lot. Did not like the tocino (pork shoulder) at all though. We had very very fatty chunks and little meat. The restaurant was vey busy, food was forgotten and came late.

It is everything you want in a non-fancy, super solid, local diner or local brunch place. Tasty, good portion sizes, can always take out of town friends there (even non-adventurous friends can get an American breakfast or a burger). One of my Chicago favorites for the last 7 years.

Food: You start off with a small chicken soup with rice which is such a nice taste to welcome the other flavors. We got the breakfast combo with two different choices of meats. You get a good portion size and everything else as delicious, the bangus was crispy and the spam had a slight sweet yet savory taste. The steak was tender but slightly a little bland without the steak sauce and the cocino was also tender especially since it was marinated. Service: The service was okay, they made sure we got our food promptly. However by the end of the meal, the server disappeared and we were waiting to pay but had to go to the front to finish the transaction. Ambiance: It’s very homey, the decorating reminds me of an 80s Filipino home. Location accommodation: Parking is in the side and sometimes you have to wait to get a table as this place gets busy. It took 20 min for us to wait for our table.

California Visitor. Complimentary Arroz Caldo was fantastic. My kid is our baseline since she she is a picker eater. Taste is authentic. Food- My wife and I ordered Tocino and Longanisa. Serving was big good enough for two people if you order extra rice. Taste is very authentic. Cleanliness: For me, I checked it by going to the bathroom during our brunch 12:15pm. Bathroom is fresh and clean to the point I can sleep there. Server: They are nice and very attentive. I rarely give out reviews since all the others that did not meet my standard I usually talk to the manager to what they can improve on instead of giving them a review. I highly recommend this place and they deserve my Respect.

It’s like Lola’s cooking! It was perfect. The staff is always so friendly. I live in Texas and was visiting Chicago - Uncle Mikes Place was an agenda item on our itinerary. This was my second time back. The food this visit was consistent to the first visit. As soon as we sat down, they brought out a nice bowl of lugaw (aka rice porridge). Then the main event. The longanisa was delicious! Garlic rice was freaking yummy. Perfectly cooked eggs with runny yolks. The fried bangus was so good! I can’t wait to go back next time we are back in Chicago. The Filipino style champorado to finish the meal brought me back to my childhood. Simple place hiding an incredible experience. Don’t think. Just go.

Wow. Having never had a Filipino breakfast I was not sure what to expect, but I always love trying new cuisines. Uncle Mike’s Place will now be included in our regular rotation of breakfast spots. When you walk in it feels like you are coming in to have a meal with family and friends. Service is phenomenal. Very attentive and cordial. I felt the love and passion each employee had when they came to our table. The food. Oh they yummy food. We had a half-order of the marinated steak, and the longanisa/tocino combo. Both with over easy eggs. The flavors were delicious and the portions are large. I also discovered lugaw and champorado. The lugaw is like a more flavorful version of grits. And the champorado is delectable. If you love chocolate, but don’t want something overly sweet - this will be your jam. We need more restaurants like Uncle Mike’s Place in Chicago.

Lugaw(rice porridge) was actually my favorite and Bangus(milkfish) was really disappointing… it was dry and salty. Champurado was served with all breakfast dishes and it seemed weird combination but it was good to have as little dessert after savory meals. But it was good overall. I want to try other dishes. Fantastic place. Waitlist was easy to get on and understand how long the wait might be, service was quick and easy, the interior was kinda fun and old-school, and most important of all the food was tasty. I particularly liked the tocino. The overall flavor, the slight sweetness. My other favorite is the longanisa sausage. The steak was ok—the sauce it comes with is delicious, but on its own it is not very flavorful. The spam is tasty, but a bit too salty for my taste. The rest of the breakfast items went well with it all I think, from the garlic rice, cheesy grits, and eggs. Great brunch and lunch spot in my opinion. I’ll be back!

Uncle Mike knows how to cook. After waiting about ten minutes we walked in and were immediately welcomed with some lugaw which was refreshing. Looking around the interior I felt like I was in a Asian diner. I ended up getting the longanisa and tocino breakfast combo which was amazing. The loganisa was sweet while the tocino provided more crisp yet both had great tastes. The eggs were exactly as I asked: over hard and mixed well with the rice and meat. There was so much food that I couldn't even finish the chocolate rice pudding which was delicious. This place is great and definitely one I will frequently be returning to.

I got curbside the food was ready before the designated time and the service couldn’t be better. I ordered the Steak and Tocino combo with a side of Longanisa because I’ve never tried Tocino before. The meal came with complimentary rice soup, Filipino porridge, and Chocolate rice for a sweet treat. The portions are so generous I got full half way through everything so I’ll have enough left over to indulge in tomorrow for breakfast. I love Uncle Mike’s and I will be returning very soon. Uncle Mike's is simply wow. I wish I lived closer to enjoy its breakfast every day. The service is warm, the retro interior is cozy, and the food is incredibly delicious. The complimentary Filipino porridge is hearty, garlicky, and refreshing with a chicken flavor and a hint of ginger. For the rice plate, I ordered a combo with Bangus and Tocino — the Bangus was very crispy and paired well with the tangy sauce, the Tocino was well-marinated with a rich taste, and both paired wonderfully with the garlic rice and eggs. I also loved the chocolate rice that came with the plate, which worked great as a light dessert to round up the meal.

I have had my fair share of at-home and in-restaurant Filipino breakfasts. I came in on a snowy Saturday late morning, so we were seated promptly, but the restaurant was quite busy. A friend and I split plates so the price was fairly reasonable. Service was great. Lugaw -- When we were seated, they gave us some lugaw (Filipino porridge). It was VERY yummy though quite heavy on the ginger flavor (I don't mind since I like ginger but some people might not). Big bangus -- The texture was great, nice and crispy, but there was not much flavor. Fish was not that salty, and the accompanying vinegar did not help much. The garlic fried rice was not very flavorful either, nor that garlicky. The rice-to-fish portion is smaller than I would have liked, but because the fish wasn't that salty it wasn't hard to just eat that on its own. Champorado (chocolate rice pudding) -- This came with the bangus. It was quite good and tasted how I'd expect it to. Rice was a nice soft texture. Longanisa -- Wasn't as flavorful either. It probably needed a little more fat or sweetness + saltiness. It's an alright place for a simple home cooked meal, though I wouldn't wait in a line to eat here.

Worth the wait, though it took way longer than estimated to get seated (over an hour when the estimate was 30 minutes). The breakfast was very very good, homey feeling with great savory flavor and well grilled meat. Every ingredient was quality and well treated and the pork was excellent (bangus was quite good as well). In my humble opinion it’s much better than Kasamas breakfast, which I found to be too sweet. Uncle Mike’s Place is a wonderful diner with some delicious Filipino food. They offer your standard diner fare which will satisfy even the most picky eaters. The real treasure is their perfectly prepared Filipino brunch options. I recommend getting a combination plate so you can try multiple meats. I typically go for the skirt steak and the tocino. All of these plates come with arrroz caldo (rice porridge) and sides of pico de gallo and champurrado (chocolate rice pudding). It’s also served with garlic fried rice and a sunny side up egg with a few sprinkles of red pepper flakes. I’ve also tried the longanisa which was tasty, but I much preferred the tocino. The food is always high quality and the service is top notch. The folks running this place are all so friendly. Be prepared for a wait if you come on the weekends. It’s not a large space and you may end up waiting in the narrow area right in the entrance. It’s worth the wait, but getting there earlier will be a good bet.

Loved this place! You just know it's authentic home cooking. It's homey and not much frills but the staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Once we sat down before we ordered anything they brought us water and 2 warm bowls of their rice porridge. I was already surprised because I was planning on ordering some. It was delicious and perfect for the slightly chillier weather coming. I've never had rice porridge with lemon in it but this worked and I was about to ask for a second bowl before I realized I should probably order something first. The 2 of us shared a tocino breakfast (comes with 2 eggs and garlic rice) and a side of longanisa. Loved it. Can't go wrong with longanisa. This was more than enough food for the two of us. Garlic rice was awesome. It also comes with a small chocolate rice pudding. I'll def be back here if I'm in Chicago again!

It’s not typical to find many Filipino restaurants so it’s nice to have this downtown. The staff are very nice and doting. The atmosphere is nice and it’s a big place. Free street parking. I would say I would prefer to stick to the American menu here bc I hear good things about the food. As for the Filipino food menu…I had baby bangus fish (pacific milkfish) and garlic rice with eggs on top and chocolate pudding (I forget the actual name in Filipino) that comes with it for $14.95. Yes it was the smaller fish portion but there was so little fish that I sprinkled the lightly battered pieces on my rice like flavored garlic w fish rice. You get complimentary Lugaw which is rice porridge with a lemon embedded inside as soon as you sit down. My partner had Tocino (pork) w eggs and sides which he loved (I’m not a meat eater most of the time and I will eat fish so I will stick w non meat dishes which leaves vegetarians and vegans with few choices here). He loves it here as he loves pork dishes. So overall I would stick w the American breakfast or lunch food bc the choices for me were limited and the food portion for the fish was small. But I give the place 5 stars for having Filipino food choices for meat eaters and very nice staff and atmosphere. It’s a nice sit down experience.

This place is very highly regarded and a lot of my friends really like it. I’ve been here a few times and it’s good, but not the full 5 star from me when it comes to taste. I’ve had the steak, the pork chops and the longanisa breakfast and have liked the last one the most, the pork chops were actually not that great at all. I love the congee at the beginning and the cozy, breakfast atmosphere of the place. Generally, I believe there is a wait during weekend breakfast/brunch times but I’ve always gotten lucky.
