Everything I ate was awesome! Will definitely be back!

It was my first visit today. I have had bbq all across the county from big name restaurants to road side joints. The pulled pork, brisket, jalapeño sausage, baked beans and banana pudding were as good as any I have ever had. Hats of to these guys. If you haven't tried them do so. As good as it gets in my book.

Today was my first day trying Big Thicket BBQ. OMG. There, I said it. I ordered the "Tres Hombres" sandwich. It was amazing and very fulfilling. In fact, it was so good that I hunted the owner down and told him about it!

We tend to be BBQ snobs and can be very picky when it comes to BBQ. We’ve eaten at Big Thicket BBQ a few times since the ownership change, and each time we have been very impressed. BBQ is delicious and staff is always very friendly. Must try the pork belly!

It was good but not great BBQ. Brisket was a bit dry. Their sauce made it better, but great brisket doesn't need sauce.

I was disappointed by my first visit here because my brisket totchos were soggy and cold. The meat itself tasted good, but the overall dish did not work for me. At $10 for quite a small portion, I also found it a little pricey. If you get a sandwich, the sides are charged separately as well. I think it would be nice if they had some kind of combo meal. The drinks were also limited. There was no drink fountain, so you’ll have to get a can. There was no Coke Zero, so I had Diet Coke. I wanted to like the place because the setting is pretty nice and the reviews have been good, but I’m not sure if I’ll return.

We had the pulled pork taco, brisket taco, brisket sandwich and a side of beans. All of it was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. It has a wonderful family atmosphere as throughout the entire process— ordering at the counter, serving our food, and owner checking with us— everyone was courteous, friendly, and attentive. We will return!

This place is a virtual clown show paid 100 bucks for food and waited 30 minutes only to find out 1/3 of my order was not going to get done so I walked out . Never will I Return .....enjoy your free money big thicket your gonna need it

Great before they got sold, now they’re overpriced and overcooked. Payed 50$ for a pound of ribs, 1/3 pound of sausage and a half pound of brisket, and got a pound of brisket, 1/2 of ribs and 1/3 of sausage. Brisket was overdone, sliced extra thick to hide the fact and still dry. Sausage also dry somehow. The ribs were great and unfortunately the only other thing I was actually excited about, the pickled veggies were bland. Not really worth either the time it took to drive there or the money it cost.

Limited menu. Brisket sandwich was delicious but did ot offer chips are fries.. 12.00 dollar which included a water. Very small sandwich. Definitely didn't fill you up. Sides were 4.75 and 7.75.

I ate here last week and thoroughly enjoyed the brisket, pulled pork, and St. Louis ribs, with jalapeno creamed corn and Texas tot casserole. Those were perhaps the tastiest and most tender meats I've had-and the BBQ sauce made them even better! I'm sad that they're closing (but sure wish them the best!) and really hope that someone can step in and continue with as much heart and deliciousness as Big Thicket had for as long as they did! Thank you again!

My husband and I love the food. It's always fresh and delicious. Brisket, jalapeno cream corn, and the desserts are my favorites.

Maybe I have just came here on a bad day two different times. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. The food however is a bit off. Both times I have came the sides have been ice cold and the brisket had very little flavor. I really wanted to like this place and support small business but it's just not where it needs to be.

We stopped in this place and got a to go order. They make everything fresh, so be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes after you order (they have a sign up that says this, so we didn’t mind) which isn’t bad. It’s a neat little place. Their BBQ is well worth the wait! The jalapeño creamed corn and tater tot casserole is AMAZING! 10/10 a great place to get your BBQ fix. Will return anytime we pass through.

Swine tasting joint. Everything basically has that same taste. Not friendly like posted.

We went there for my birthday dinner as a family, the food was great although they were short on side's which made my daughter's upset not getting what they ordered... Burnt ends were phenomenal 👏 Highly recommend the loaded bake potato and anything pork 😋 👌

Love the jalapeño cream corn! Go early - they run out by closing time. Breakfast menu looks amazing. Ready to go back to try more items and speciality sodas.

This isn't my first time visiting. It is my first time visiting at the new location. The new location really suits them. It gives that country hometown feel and the parking is way better than trying to pull in their old location. Customer service was nice and welcoming. The menu was easy to read and they even put daily specials on a board outside. I got the 2 meat plate ( brisket and ribs side of DELICIOUS collards and Mac n cheese) and the tres hombres which is pulled pork, sausage and I think brisket on a monster bun with a little sauce. Everything was good 👍🏾 THOSE collard greens ......oh man !!! The ribs are awesome too. One little suggestion on the brisket. If u can just put a little char on the fat it woulda been perfect but I just threw it in my air fryer on broil for a few seconds at home n it was delicious. The meat comes sauced ( u can actually go without sauce and it's good but they give u a little cup of sauce on the side. The mac and cheese looked watered down but FAR FROM IT. The mac and cheese was velvety smooth. I was a little shocked at the price for what I got. I expected to be paying more but my total was a little over $30 and some change. The lady gave me the total and I thought to myself well dang I coulda ordered more. I hope soon I will be able to place a order online for pick up. LoL I would be there too much then !!

Great BBQ but show up early as they often sell out by early afternoon. Also expect abour a 20-30 minute wait and limited table space

10/10 Recommend Brisket, egg, and cheese biscuits Sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits ....Great Food + People

So I won't lie, I always check previous reviews and I don't like the fact that the critical reviews haven't been responded to. To me it's an indicator of the character of the ownership. At any rate, my wife and I had breakfast here today. Awesome historic building. Lots of charm. The tacos were good. The brisket was fantastic, the boudin was nice and smoky. Pretty good all around. Four stars because the tortillas were hard and stale feeling. My suspicion is that they were microwaved. I am doubtful the eggs were cooked to order. Likely in bulk, but again it wasn't bad. The coffee was probably the best coffee I've ever had in a restaurant in Vernon or Beauregard parish. My wife loved the grits. I undoubtedly would not hesitate to eat there again. Based on the food concepts I've seen come from this spot, they have a very innovative approach to barbecue that is worth paying attention to. I look forward to eating here again. Three stars for service because, well, it's not full service, so. It's a great spot.

There a little pricey over $21 for just two sandwiches, but I have to say they are nice sized sandwiches. We got the pulled pork BBQ sandwiches some of the best BBQ I have ever put in my mouth... The cashier was a little snarky like she thought we knew everything they had kind of rude and we asked for light slaw even STRESSED lite slaw when we got back to the RV to eat there was so much slaw we had to eat the sandwich with a fork... But we called and complained and they gave us two more on the house and put the slaw on the side. I love the Christian atmosphere 🙌.

The meat was overly spicy from the amount of black pepper in the rub. That was all that you could taste. The pulled pork didn't have any flavor. The pompano grits were amazing. The cheesecake was good.

Really cool restaurant with great options and great atmosphere. My only critique is that they go overboard with the black pepper in their rubs. It’s overpowering and makes all the meat taste like eating a spoon full of peppercorn.

he best BBQ you can get in the area. It's not Alabama BBQ good, but it's good enough to tide you over. I do not recommend going to get carryout in November or December though. They seem to mostly cater to people they know personally, and everyone else just gets the food without much politeness.

Get there EARLY or they run out of sides

Where do I start? How about the friendly, inviting and knowledgeable staff and service! They welcome you in and are happy to greet you with a smile. The food….. some of the ABSOLUTE BEST bbq in all of Louisiana!!! Everything is scratch made and freshly prepared. I had the tacos and savored every bite of them as well as the to-die-for peach cheesecake 😋 Y’all just come on by and order anything. You won’t be disappointed. The atmosphere is full of conversation and they are faith based (which for me also draws me back to them!)

Never disappointed but wish they had more of there sides left when I go. Always plenty of Cajun greenbeans, jalapeño cream style corn, Smokey pit beans and coleslaw. I wanna try the other sides

The food was good just a different choice of sides and they only use bolt drink so mine was at the side of being warm.

Food was good but very little for the price

Food is always so good here and comes out in good time. They have a baritone options of meat and ways to enjoy their food. Only thing I wish was different is they were open later. Would like to enjoy their food after work for dinner.

Came here with my family as first timers and the food was not all that great. We spent around $50 for three drinks, one taco, two meat plate and a half rack of ribs. The price is kind of ridiculous for the quality of food we received. My husband ordered the two meat plate (ribs & brisket) with two sides (beans & mac n’ cheese) and the plate only came with two ribs and three slices of brisket. The ribs and the sides were also heavily seasoned with pepper. On the upside, the inside of the restaurant is nice.

Holy heck ! What a gem !!!! In town for softball ,never been here before. Also came straight from Tennessee where I've been eating BBQ for a week... this was the BEST I had ALL trip ! Bacon Mac n Cheese is phenomenal ! Pulled Pork was perfect ! Highly recommend!

I go to DeRidder at least twice a month and have always wanted to stop but it either is close or right at closing time, let me tell you it did not disappoint...good things come to those who wait...the ribs, sausage, peach bourbon burnt ends, Mac & cheese, pit smoked beans and green beans was a party in our mouth...OMG! can't wait to go back. Kennedi was pure delight. And the lady had just bought a watermelon from Walmart and cut it & we ask Kennedi for some of it (not on menu, it was her personal watermelon) and she just said sure...The atmosphere was great old house converted into restaurant with original wood floors, porch with rockers....I was taken aback to childhood days...This place was what I have been looking for...I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!

Finally got to stop by Big Thicket BBQ in DeRidder. Overview: this is easily in the top 2 BBQ places in Louisiana, along with Bad Wolf BBQ in Ruston. I asked for 2 meats and 2 sides but I guess they figured out who I was because these behemoth platters came out. Brisket was cooked well, pepper-forward and very good (and the sauce balanced them perfectly). Ribs were well balanced with a hint of sweetness. All three sausages were superb and the chicken (which I normally avoid) was delightful. The beans are the second best I’ve ever had (behind Riverport BBQ in Jefferson, TX) and the creamed corn and mac were awesome. The banana pudding is one of the best I’ve ever tried (so much so I ordered a second one to go). And I love their sign!

Great BBQ. Boudin tacos and brisket tacos were delicious.

Had a pulled pork sandwich and there was a huge piece of fat on it. The sauce was good but the macaroni and cheese had a large amount of black pepper. The burnt ends looked good. The brisket was good.

First time I ate hear and it was good. The banana pudding was some of the best I have ever had. I absolutely loved it. Service was good and food was brought out fast. Would definitely be back.

I promise you I wasn’t expecting how good the food was. Honestly this the best bbq I ever had I kept my word and I will be back
