first the most important stuff: the food is excellent especially the pork chop special. french onion soup is also good. the service was excellent as well. the most offputting thing about this place was the smell. i don't know how to describe it, but it smells like a bathroom that's been cleaned with really pungent chemical cleaner. i dunno. this is something i don't complain about very often, so it's hard to put into words. that shouldn't deter you from eating here since it didn't seem to be a problem for the rest of the diners, and i stuck it out until the end.

Booked as back-up for Valentine's Day 2023 because of all the rave reviews. The original plan is an outdoor rooftop dinner, but "you can plan a pretty picnic, but you can't predict the weather." A handful of tables at 7pm. 1 star: cleanliness. 2 star: friendly staff. There's nothing else to note. Cozy area with dated decor. Large mirrors on every wall, I feel like I'm in a fishbowl. The food is mediocre for that hefty price point. Either give me quality or quantity, and it missed the mark for both. My gf said the best part was the complimentary with individual wrapped butter.

Fist time at this place after pandemic, very disappointed. Let's start with the decor, I still remember the cozy atmosphere of a Paris bistro, now the place is cold with cement floor, hard metal chairs. Then the service, ordered a bottle of wine, server was checking the tables, walking around, never realized that our glasses were empty, never offered to refill. Then the food, I ordered the steak with fries, I got a plate full of fries and a huge steak on top! How I was supposed to cut the steak with all those fries underneath????

I took my husband here for our anniversary and it was GREAT! The Food was cooked perfectly, the staff was very, very attentative. Our glasses were half full, and they would fill it up, our bread basket was half full, and they'd quickly fill it up. I have no complaints about this place at all. From outside, it doesn't look like much. It's a big black door connected to a small front entrance, as soon as you open the door, a French Man, greets you. You are taken into another dimension. You think you're in America, and within a few short steps, you travel to France for an experience you will never forget. All the waiters speak French, and English of course, it feels so unreal and like a dream. It's a little pricey, totally worth every penny though. Update: This was my husband's and I's FAVORITE place to eat when we saved up for it. We just recently returned, and it was a completely different place from the original. They must've changed ownership. Food was bland, not cooked well, service was not enjoyable. Definitely not worth the big price tag unfortunately 😕

For more than 15 years, I have been coming to this gem of a restaurant. It is one of those places that you can count on - every time the dishes you love come out exactly as you remembered them. The atmosphere is like coming home, not fancy, it feels like you are sitting in your families dining room have a home cooked meal. I especially want to call out Keith the bartender! He makes sure that everything is taken care of and has a genuine interest in you having an amazing experience. He knows his wine and always gives us the perfect suggestion for what we are eating - he is great! So don't miss this old school French standard of a restaurant - you will walk away with a happy tummy and a smile on your face.

Food was OK, except the bread, which was a complete failure. Unfortunately, the quality of the bread at a "French" joint needs to be exceptional. It was not, and I can't really remember what else we got. Not a good sign. For the price we paid, it should have been a bit more memorable in good ways. Stick to Petit Trois if you've got high out expectations. It's the same price range.

A neighborhood place with rave reviews, and we wanted to like it.Though the food was fine, it was far too expensive for the decor, and the menu was limited... there were no chicken dishes, for example, and just 3 desserts. The interior ambience was so bad. It was obviously a coffee shop in a previous life. Light blue walls, a dirty-looking brown floor, orange naugahyde benches and bright lighting. Ok, a couple of faded prints of Paris. For $500, they could paint the walls a brick color, put B&W linoleum on the floor, upgrade the lighting, or just get dimmers, and add a few French touches. We were disappointed. Honestly, many taco shops display more visual effort.

My daughter took me to dinner on Mother's Day. We are from Eagle Rock and have been eating here since they opened many years ago. First the positives: It was clean, wait staff were friendly & attentive, and the live music was very nice. He played french accordion music and ragtime jazz piano. Loved it. The negatives: We shared an endive salad which was excessively bitter with no dressing to balance; we could not finish it. My daughter's filet mignon, was an inch thick, overcooked with grissle. When mentioned to waiter he apologetically.. sent back to redo the order. When new order came it was a New York with peppercorns. She just ate it as not to wait for a second correction. I got the halibut and it was nice however, less flavorful than I had remembered. We shared a disappointing Apple Tartine that was cold had no flavor and very soggy bottom. It came with 2 tablespoons of very good ice cream. The expresso machine was out of order and the regular coffee arrived lukewarm.

I am a huge fan of French Bistros in general so was happy to find this one in Eagle Rock. A casual bistro with great service and food honestly always sounds good to me. Parking is easy as there is tons of neighborhood and street parking available, the menu has a good selection of items and our server was very polite. I started off the meal with a personal favorite of mine, French Onion soup, and it really hit the spot on a cold December night. I usually like a darker roux, almost brown, whereas this is a lighter broth but still a very nice taste to it. Followed up with the flamed filet mignon with Roquefort and it was delicious. It was cooked very well and the cheese was a new change for me with steak, but was an easy sell to me since I love cheese. A really all around delightful meal. I would recommend to anyone especially if you're a fan of bistros. That being said I would not suggest for a birthday or anniversary meal just because of the more casual nature of the place. I will be back again in the future it was a very nice experience.

A little bit disappointed with the food. This used to be our favorite restaurant for French food. The service was good and the servers were very attentive, but we notice a change. It looks more like a dinner. The food quality is not what used to be. We order the specials Chicken Milanese and grilled salmon. The chicken was a little bit dry and the salmon was good but it was served with mashed potatoes. The presentation was not what used to be and the flavor was good but not great. Tart tatan as desert was good but not great either. Not sure if we will return. May try once more.

I really love this restaurant. Its cozy, and charming atmosphere lends to spending a long relaxing dinner with friends. Very European style. You are able to stay as long as you like with never being pressured to leave. In fact, they will never bring you your check until you request it. I lived in Paris for a few years. So I have a bit of experience when it comes to French food. Cafe Beaujolais is as authentic as you can get and dare i say it even exceeded most of what i ate while in France. I had the lamb stew. Amazingly simple, tender, the lamb retain its flavor instead of getting lost in an ocean of seasonings. My wife had the croque au vin, truly the best I ever had. Slow cooked but the wine still had its essence and added a richness often lost in typical croque au vin. Highly recommend.

Although the restaurant is unassuming from the exterior (a dimly lit façade on a major street in Eagle Rock with few places directly around it), this little French Bistrot is one of the hidden gems of Los Angeles. First, the food is prepared with care, regardless if you go on a busy weekend night or in the late evening on a random unseasonably chilly Wednesday in March. I have tried many things on the menu, and I have enjoyed everything. The highlights for me include the strip steak, the filet (of course, prepared with a delicious sauce with savory morels), the duck, and the fish. I love that the sides are always delicately prepared (but incredibly delicious), including string beans, asparagus, and cooked carrots. The escargots are wonderful, too - if you have a fear of eating snails but have always had a slight curio The food is decadent, so expect to he pretty full by the end of your meal (I would guess that at least a little butter goes into most of what they cook). The staff are friendly, and they never bother you, letting you take your time with your meal. My friends and I have been the last people in the restaurant after closing on several occasions, and we have never once felt rushed to leave, even when the staff are already having their meals and getting ready to put things away. The feeling of being relaxed and having the freedom to have long conversations with my friends are definitely two of my favorite things about Cafe Beaujolais. The prices are reasonable given that you are getting a gourmet meal in a calm and quiet atmosphere.

We booked online for a Thursday evening, and received an efficient, prompt response. The warm, cosy, candle-lit space isn't huge, but the tables are spaced a reasonable distance apart. However, as other reviews have noted, the noise can sometimes build up, especially if there happen to be a couple of noisy tables. The service is quick and friendly - the only blemish being a slight mix-up in the order of an appetiser and a main course. Each of our choices was really delicious, even memorable. The menu and wine list, although limited, still cater for a wide range of tastes. Thoroughly recommended.

Our friends love it here and promoted Beaujolais as a great French bistro. We found the almost pitch-black space to be absurdly dark. The wine list was truly mediocre for a French restaurant. Our nice goat-cheese salads and soups came quickly. Then we waited 35 minutes for our entrees. My trout came on a veritable mountain of mashed potatoes -not mentioned on the menu! The trout itself wasn’t overcooked, and the sauce was nice, but the dish’s effect was vast, white and unappetizing. My spouse’s coq au vin was good but not great, and he tried for 15minutes to get a waiter’s attention to change to a red wine with his entree. Our experience, with entrees all priced in the 20’s, wasn’t good value.

Have gone here for years with 3 buddies. The service (with the exception of one person) is awesome. They bring bread upon bread and butter as you are about to finish it. There's someone always looking at your table, it's awesome. Food is great, specially the Filet mignon with peppercorn sauce on the side. The beer, 3 Monts & Gavroche are my favorite, specially the 3 Monts, it's big enough to share with 2 people, and it is corked, not a cap. The reason I have 4 stars is that one server I talked about earlier. We (all 4 of us) stopped going there for 2 years (their loss) because he p****ed me off. The one time that my meat was bad, he second guessed me and argued with me. I carve my own meats at home and know a lot about meat. So just went back after 2 years. The interior of the place is somewhat shabby (avoid looking at the ceiling), which is why they keep it dim--so dim, in fact, that it makes using the crayons and paper on every table very difficult. There are very few blind painters for a reason. I've had the filet mignon (delicious) with creamy mashed potatoes (fantastic!), the pork chop special (best chop I've had, ever), the scallops special (very good, but something I could make at home myself; I should have got the rack of lamb or trout); for an appetizer I tried escargot for the first time and loved it, and for desert I strongly recommend the creme brulee. The house wine I had was fairly cheap and very good; that ain't no 3 Buck Chuck! They do not take reservations, so you better plan on being there when they open, especially on weekends, because it fills up quickly.

Great little French restaurant in the Eagle Rock area that has a great atmosphere and serves good food. The proprietor seated us and recited the specials, Each of us ordered a different dish and all were very good. Nice wine list and also a full bar. The chocolate mouse is one of the richest and best I have tasted! Great service!

OKAY so my family and I went in on a Saturday around 7:00 PM and didn't have to wait for a table which at a good joint is usually odd to say the least. Either way the ambiance was relaxing and inviting and we were greeting almost instantly to be seated. The tables were cute with their brown paper and little cups with crayons that were enjoyed by my son and us throughout dinner. They came and brought us bread (MIND BLOWING GOOD) which just looks like a regular baguette but oh boy was it much more than that along with water upon sitting down! In a timely fashion our server came to greet us in his beautiful French accent and informed us of the daily specials. He gave us ample time to place our order checking in and answering questions we had to make our final decision. We went with escargot as an appetizer which was hands down some of the best escargot I've ever had. I got lamb and my husband had the trout - both were phenomenal. Even the little tomato with breadcrumbs on top was a delicious treat. My husband who doesn't even like tomatoes agreed! This was all wonderful but I do have to say the service got lax. We had to wait FOREVER to place our dessert order and there seemed to be a bit of confusion as to who did that - our server - the bus boys - either way I was getting a bit ticked. Then we ordered the creme brulee which was good BUT they torched the top a bit too long and had too much of the burnt flavor. I'm hoping this was a fluke because up until then everything was so good.
