I love this place. Favorite place to eat in Albuquerque. I always get the bento boxes: wonderful tempura vegetables and protein (shrimp, mushroom, zuccini, bell pepper, sweet potato) with a dipping sauce, salmon or other protein selection, fried pot stickers, California roll pieces & sticky rice. Oh, and off their sushi menu I get the lobo roll: it is a baked roll that has great sauces, cream cheese and baked salmon on top. Yum.

My wife and I love this place for the Sushi and sake selection. They sell flights of it. Also it’s the only place I can go and have actually good real sushi and sashimi and an Orion beer. The staff is awesome. Sometimes they get busy so don’t be in a hurry, but trust me, it’s worth it.

Really good food easy in easy out

The food and service were very good. The building on the inside needs a complete refresh. They seemed to be short-handed, at least at the chef position.

We went for a birthday celebration! There were 5 of us which worked out great for the table we had which seats 5. We thought the teppenyaki style would add a little more fun to the celebration! They gave us bottomless soft drinks and raspberry tea. We ordered chicken dumplings, pan fried, they were your typical fried from frozen faire, rather boring, with soy sauce to dip them in. For the main course we had cubed NY steak and chicken breast. The show started off with preparing the fried rice, followed by veggies and finally the shrimp and meats. Our preparer must have been having an off day, because this was the most boring teppenyaki show I've ever sat through. No enthusiasm, no joking around, no fun! The show is why you go to a place like this! A total go through the motions let down. For dessert they brought the honoree a fried ice cream, the vanilla center was good but the fried outside was bland and tasteless. We tipping our teppenyaki chef $20 and another $20 for the rest of the wait staff, but I felt it was undeserved. Maybe this restaurant has existed too long and they've forgotten what makes a place like this special.

The dinner was so amazing. Very filling with big portions. For the price you pay, we have had leftovers for two days. Totally worth it. Our server was not the nicest but Hector our chef was AMAZING. Tip him big time, hes so funny and makes the whole experience worth it. I would go at a non bust time. We went 3pm on a Saturday with no one there.

It’s hard to not notice the dingy smell…. I think they tried to address it by ripping up the carpet… but the place still smells. We gave this place a 4th try - but I couldn’t even eat the scallops they tasted so fishy. The miso soup was, literally, clear broth with 5 slices of green onion. Waiter claimed he had only been in the country for 1 week - which was why he confused “rare” with “well”. My son was like: “why is he burning my steak”. I’m not the type to complain - but Samurai has gone WAY downhill from what it was 20 years ago.

Be warned Samurai CHARGES you to SHARE a meal, $10 per shared meal! My family tried sharing two Tappan grill meals because we also ordered sushi and drinks and thought it would be too much food. The two $10 charges weren't expected and had we known we would have been better off just ordering the 3rd entree and no sushi. Also, they charge for drink refills. Food is great, but watch out for extra charges!

They cooked the tofu in the meat fat. When my mum pointed out that it seemed a little counterproductive, they told her she didn't communicate dietary restrictions effectively. Why are you picking on an old lady? Absolutely no accountability. 0/10

My favorite place in Albuquerque! Amazing staff and incredible food. Highly recommend coming to this place, if you can get a cook see if you can get Hector he makes the best steak!! Thank you Samurai.

Good service from our waiter but there was way too much sodium & seasoning in our food that was added by the "chef".. Cooking methods were outta synch; cook meats 1st along w/vegetables then stir fry the noodles/rice last. My stir fry noodles were a little cold while waiting on the rest of the food to cook.

Great sushi, service and variety of sushi options...they were out of halibut which was disappointing... but there were other options. Fatty Tuna was cut too thick... but great quality. This was the second time we have been here! Service was great for how busy they were on New years Eve.

The floors are clean, and the tables have been cleaned beforehand I will give it a 9/10 the reason it is not a ten is because the tile was a little sticky. Some of the chairs had a bit of stuff on them, just some spots, but not bad. Serving was good, and our server was friendly not much else to say about this 10/10. The food is so far good we ate miso and a Caesar salad. The chef was very good at performing tricks and other various stunts the food prepared is very good. The food was again great. I must say it takes some serious skill to make food like that. I'm left astonished at how good it was. The chef's skill with tricks and other techniques was refined and intentional; it must have taken hours to be able to do that. Overall, the decor was fashionable and related to the Japanese roots of the restaurant, plus the floors and everything were clean they even had a wishing well.

Seriously some of the most unique, best tasting sushi I’ve ever had. The only reason I wouldn’t rate 5 stars is they are pricey, even for sushi. Definitely worth visiting at least once!

Great place to eat with the family has been one of the families favorite places to eat for over 10 years. It's a place we go on special occasions and enjoy the great food. Everything on there menu is excellent and their steak is to die for. Would definitely say it's a nice restaurant for a date night or to bring business guests.

We had a table of ten with no reservations. It took a minute for the server to handle all of us, but he did a great job. The food is fantastic. The spicy ramen is very good. The chef's special sushi rolls that we had were amazing. Our drinks were kept full and the wait for food was an average twenty to thirty minutes. We are from Florida, so I expect very fresh fish if I am eating it raw. I was not disappointed!

It's not a bad place to eat. Food was pretty good. Service was pretty attentive. The atmosphere is not the greatest. It looks Japanese and that's fine but the music played was very mixed. It was very through the times if you will. Also we probably had a bad experience because we sat next to some people that.... We're kind of annoying. And a bit rude. The soup that you get with the teppon grill was very pig fatty. It was like you were drinking bacon grease.

Wonderful customer service. She was always checking in, very friendly and we got our food very quickly. The food was okay but the minute we got home, my partner and I have had very upset stomachs. We did not eat anything out of the ordinary except Samurai, as this was our first time trying it. We love hibachi and sushi, but after this experience I’m not sure if I could handle going back.

Loved this restaurant! Suki was a wonderful person and took great care of us. The fish was fresh and delightful. The price was very reasonable! We tried a bunch of different items, and all were wonderful.

The food was delicious and service was great. Our server Jack recommended excellent appetizers and made us laugh the entire time. Definitely made a fun Monday and fun birthday party.

It PAINS me to leave Samurai a negative review BUT they have a new order taker named Jack. When taking the order for a filet, he asks shrimp or scallops? We've been there several dozen time. Probably one of our favorite dining places in ABQ. Hecktr the chef remembers us. Several of us said shrimp, assuming they've decided to offer a choice for the hors d'oeurve of shrimp or scallops, I (and several others) said shrimp. Turns out the sorry dishonest waiter is asking if we want extras but in a very sly sneaky dishonest manner. There were several other instances of dishonest sales/billing issues with Jack and Samurai. Fortunately, there are several other trepan style restaurants to select from. Bye Bye Samurai! You're far better off at Azuma or another choice!

Bathrooms were dirty and had trash all over the floor. It was run down. Floors in the entrance were sticky. Just seemed a low class resturant. McDonald's is cleaner than this place. Needs an overhaul!!

I’ve eaten here pre and post Covid, so I can say that the food quality is the same every time you get it. It’s great for the price. The sushi rolls always taste fresh, the hibachi chefs always give great service and make everything to ur specifications. Waiters are always fast and helpful, great service all around. It’s not like gourmet or anything, but why would you expect that from a restaurant in NM? The ocean is like 17 hrs away

I have been going to Samurai for many years now, and while it is not as good as it was in my childhood, it is still a great restaurant. One of the things that makes it so great is the ratio of food quantity to price. So you are easily getting your moneys worth for good food, and if you are on the Tappan side you are also getting a show to go with it. I think this is a great date spot or a nice place to have an evening with the family.

3 stars is generous for our experience. They are entirely for the grill. The non grill food and service is awful. For example, the Monkey brains shown here is a ton of mayo on uncooked mushroom with fake crab inside. I’m talking about midwestern amounts of Mayo. When the server asked if everything was alright I had brought it up for her to tell me ‘That’s how it is, unless you order it with no ‘sauce’. Sushi was not great and had to flag down a different server for ginger since she stopped checking in with us after not liking the mushrooms. I could’ve let a good amount of that roll off except she kept acting like I wasn’t there after that. She hands my partner the check, I pay, I hand it to her, she tries to hand the check to my partner AGAIN over my head. I wish we could’ve tipped grill separately. Two very different experiences. The grill food my partner loved even if they gave him the wrong food. I wouldn’t return, but if you had a grill specific group it’s probably pretty good that way.

It's very rare that I get to come to Albuquerque but when I do, I always try and eat at Samurai. I was very disappointed in everything. I brought a first timer to experience the atmosphere of the whole habachi experience and boy it was nothing like how I first experience my first time at Samurai. No tricks from the chief, food was not the greatest. I ordered the New York Steak and shrimp. And both items were both rubbery. It may be awhile before I return to Albuquerque but I think Samurai just lost me as a customer.

Samurai used to be a favorite restaurant of mine but lately the quality of the teppanyaki has fallen off. Today, the teppan was not heated and when the chef came out to start cooking, he noticed that the teppan was cold. He brought it to the attention of the staff but it took some time for anyone to react and turn the burner on. After the teppan was turned on a few minutes, the chef came back out and checked the temperature of the teppan surface and it was not hot enough to his liking yet he proceeded to begin cooking as my family had already been seated awhile ago. Being a chef I kept careful watch on the seafood being prepared. Because the teppan was not quite to temperature, the chef kept the seafood on longer to insure proper cooking but needless to say, because of the longer cook time, the shrimp were overdone and rubbery. As for the New York strip that was also ordered, the steak was not seared and looked steamed, being gray, without any Maillard Reaction (the caramelization of the meat's natural sugars which give steaks its distinctive flavor) and again, the longer cook time resulted in a well done steak rather than medium rare, which was ordered. The chef did confirm, before the start of the cooking, that the steak was ordered mid-rare. In fact, he did state that mid-rare was how he liked his steak cooked too. It was unfortunate that this series of events occurred as we were celebrating my son's and daughter's birthday. Luckily, tonight's only saving grace was the sushi, but just barely. Maybe I'll return to Samurai and give it another chance.....but, I'm not in a hurry to do so. Not for a long time.

The service & food were good but you do have to wait a little for one of the chef to come and cook your food. It's a bit on the pricey side but overall good experience!

It was our 1st time going to Samurai Grill. We ordered The salmon bento and the teriyaki chicken bento and we also ordered some sushi. It. Was almost closing time and we were able to enjoy our meal without being rushed. The service was great, the food was great with the exception of the miso soup which neither my husband or myself cared for. Our server quickly replaced it with a beef broth and green onion soup that was much better for my taste. The sushi both raw and cooked was very tasty as well. We will go back.

They even promised to look into getting gluten free soy sauce to better care for us next time. Thank you!!! (I did disregard the warning and will probably pay for it, but the bulgogi was so good it was worth a little discomfort later!)

Excellent sushi restaurant w good prices and great service

Really disappointed because the inside is built quite well with the little bridge and water underneath. When I walk in it smells like cleaning fluid and old fish. Not sure why, but the place needs a deep clean and a different deodorizer. The sushi was made messy and was unraveling. This was more than one time of going there. One of my dishes had a hair on it. I really hope they improve on these issues because this place has a lot of potential.

Who ever heard of a japenese trst being out of egg rolls But it was charged on my bill and i was charged for a bottle of wine in lue of a glass. We will not go back. The difficulty to get nill fixed was crazy.

Pretty damn cool but I'm easily impressed. He didn't do near as much as the guys at the other tables and it being my friends birthday they seemed inconvenienced even though they offer the birthday options. Our server definitely didn't deserve the forced tip added to our bill, any group 8 or 10 and up have gratuity added.

We go here 2 or 3 times a month. The chefs are awesome, the environment is wonderful and the food is top notch. Easily one of my favorites.

Best spot for sushi! And they actually had sea urchin! Most places have it on their menu but always say “we’re out” but not these guys! The chefs are wonderful, all of the staff is very nice. No complaints whatsoever these guys are great!

The food was fairly average, worthy of 4 stars. The extra star is for the hunky waiter. Woof! Service was excellent, and it was nice that there were not many people, at least on the sushi bar side (more people were enjoying the grill). My friend ordered the sushi, and he liked it. I had the NY steak bento.

The sushi bar at samurai is definitely one of the best in Albuquerque. The fish always tastes fresh and the chefs are top notch. I've been going to this restaurant for years as my go to for sushi and I've never been disappointed.

Food was good , servers were friendly but service was very very slow and not attentive. Of course in these times of no one wanting to work and places like this being short staffed it is not unusual. So not unexpected and at least the servers there were friendly not frantic and rude which can happen.

Delicious food, good service staff. First time visit it restaurant l don't from here only came vacations fiesta Baloon.

My Husband and I went to this restaurant before Covid and LOVED everything about it. We had forgotten since the restaurants re opened fully until..last Friday night. We took our son and, just like before, everything was perfect. The food was delicious, plentiful (no skimpy expensive portions here!) and high quality. The Waitress was kind and attentive even though she was quite busy. Our adult Son has severe Autism and she noticed that and offered a spoon for him to eat his rice, paid attention to his glass of drink so he wouldn’t spill it and was very patient with us and him. We’ve had Japanese food in many states and large cities and this is GOOD food!

Hands down the Best sushi in town. Im here visiting from Virginia and this was the absolute most delicious. Thank you so much. Very happy, full and grateful for amazing food and exceptional service.
