Fantastic gluten free options and friendly service!

I have been to many bakeries in RVA, and I must say that Smallcakes beats them all so far. The cupcakes I bought were absolutely phenomenal. My only complaint is the amount of icing on them, but that can be overlooked. They were not dry AT ALL. The flavors were spot on and I enjoyed every bite. Smallcakes is a place I will definitely return to.

They make amazing cakes!! Ordered 2 a little last minute for a bridal shower and it was no issue at all. They tasted delicious and looked so beautiful! Everyone was impressed! Super affordable as well.

This is my third time going to this shop and I love their cupcakes and ice cream. Today, I went in and Austin was very accommodating to my order. I greatly appreciated it !

Really wonderful first experience!! I’ve never heard of the franchise before and the baker working was so patient while I was joyfully overwhelmed by so many amazing flavor options!! The baker was also so present for our entire interaction and was giving me all the information I was curious about.. even blessed me with the little tip on how to get the cupcakes home in perfect condition. The cupcakes are stunning, I know they’re going to be delicious but even if they weren’t, the customer service here sold me well enough to come again. I really just walked in for birthday dog treats and left with 4 cupcakes 😂😂

I discovered Smallcakes back in 2022 when a friend of mine was graduating. I’ve been hooked since. The cupcakes are so good, very moist and big! They have signature flavors available every day and the special flavors each month. I was prompted me to write a review today is the customer service. All the employees are pleasant but today the lady that came out to help was just so nice. I hope people will patronize them!

The cupcakes from Small Cakes are indescribably delicious and absolutely stunning! They are moist, decorated beautifully, and so so tasty! The icing is sweet but not too sweet and absolutely amazing. I love how cute the little boxes are. The boxes are cute yet functional. Have you ever got something from the bakery, and when you get home, the icing on the cupcake is on the box, or has the cupcake fallen over? Well, not at smallcakes because the box is designed very well to prevent such accidents.

Came in near closing, and they were still more than accommodating. Even at closing, cupcakes tasted like they were made five minutes ago. A must try place.

I got a custom cake made for my husbands birthday and it turned out AMAZING! I called and spoke with a very nice gentleman (I wish I remembered his name!!) after I sent over a rough idea of what I wanted. When I picked his cake up yesterday I was blown away! It turned out so much better than I could have ever expected!!! The smile this adorable cake put on my husbands face made it worth every single penny I paid for it! After seeing how talented Small Cakes bakers are I will forever order custom cakes from them for all birthdays and special occasions! I had ordered the wrong amount of cupcakes for my son’s birthday party and realized that at the last minute. The owner, Maria, was extremely kind and understanding, and was able to make me several additional custom decorated cupcakes within minutes to match the original order. Not only is their customer service outstanding but their cupcakes are both beautiful and delicious. I highly recommend them.

I recently found myself in need of a selection of gluten free cupcakes and this was the only place I could find with any variety. They were super friendly when I went in and walked me through all the options that were available. The cupcakes themselves were delicious and I couldn't be happier with the experience.

We have been getting cupcakes from here for two years. I have a gluten allergy and we found this place because they offered gluten free cupcakes. They have the best GF cupcakes I have ever had. They taste like regular cupcakes and they have so many varieties. My daughter wanted a Cookie Monster carrot cake for her birthday and I immediately thought of small cakes. They did not disappoint and my daughter was over the moon. Everyone loved this cake. The sweetness is perfect. Not overwhelming and crazy good. Will be coming back for any future cakes on top of our regular cupcake visits.

We went here by chance and we are so glad we did. We got a 6 pack of cupcakes and they were delicious. I love cupcakes and have been to most cupcake shops around and this is now my favorite. I am so happy we went in and I encourage anyone who loves a good cupcake to go there- you will not be disappointed!!!!!!!

Delicious works of art! These are fluffy cupcakes and cakes. The attention to detail and flavors has our family driving 2+ hours so us and our guest can enjoy them.

Terrible experience at this place unfortunately, as I love to support small businesses. I saw a sign on the door with the food Network logo. I went inside because I noticed they had ice cream, And when I find out they don't serve milkshakes I opted for an ice cream cone.. while The Young Man was making my ice cream cone behind the counter I asked him if they were featured in food network, And he looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. He had no idea about the sign displayed nor how to make a proper ice cream cone. $4.20 after taxes will get you a cake cone with a half of scoop of ice cream on it. I have seen children's cones at other establishments bigger than this. When I asked the gentleman about it, He replies that he can fit more in a cup, I guess suggesting I should have ordered the cup. It's really okay as the ice cream was mediocre at best anyways. I will be including the picture. I At least know how they came up with the name small cakes lol

Wonderful little cupcake shop. My first time eating here. I enjoyed the variety of cupcakes. The cake is moist and the flavors are distinct. The presentation was nice and staff was very friendly.

A guy came out from the back and was ready to handle my cupcakes with his bare hands. He put them on, but when I calmly asked, he stared at me for a moment. And then shoved the box toward me. The desserts are good but the customer service is not.

Dangerous place if you like cupcakes. Carrot cake and apple crumb are my favorite

The cake I ordered over the phone and followed up via email was never made. I spoke with the owner, she could have cared less. New policies need to clearly be put in place so no one else will have to go through the same disappointing experience. Do not order any custom cakes, as you will be extremely unhappy as well when you go to pick up a birthday cake that has not been made. I allowed the owner a chance to make it right, but she said she was too busy. Very unprofessional.

4.5 stars Great cupcakes! Huge cupcakes that are moist and delicious and not dense. A definite step above grocery store bakeries and Frostings. Will definitely return to try more flavors. The frosting is on the sweeter side for me but it is tasty. Great customer service. No wait. Was in and out . Tried the Pink Vanilla, Chocoholic, and Cookies and Cream. I can't believe it took me this long to try their cupcakes!

I really want to give this bakery two more stars. I will say that I enjoy the carrot and lemon cup cakes. I would like for the actual cake to have more flavor. More almond flavor in the wedding cupcake. Carytown Cupcakes made a major impression on me because they flavored the cake and the icing. Also, will you think about changing the flavors like coffee and doughnuts (the icing could be coffee and cream, and the cake doughnut with a glaze, or cinnamon bun fun, mixed berry burst (with blackberry cream cheese icing). There is an ice cream that is called "cereal milk", candied bacon and pancakes or waffles. Too many ideas; just a few suggestions.

Kept in contact with me and offered reassurance through the whole process. Took a picture of a cake I found online and completely brought it to life with details important to my son for his birthday. Highly recommended. Edit 12/17/22 ordered from them again for my daughters first birthday and again would give them 5 stars. They forgot to write happy birthday on the board, but the cake and cupcakes tasted amazing. They usually are able to decorate without using that flavorless thick fondant.

Smallcakes made the cupcakes for my daughter's baby shower. They custom decorated them for our baby boy in blue sprinkles and even a blue carrot. Before this event I had never had a SmallCake, but going forward I will never have anything else. We tasted cupcakes from several other bakeries and were incredibly disappointed. SmallCakes were bigger, prettier and by far much better tasting. Even the event venue personnel asked where the amazing cupcakes were from.

Such a cool shop! The service is so fast and their selection is amazing and they always have such cool flavors to choose from. They are a bit expensive but the quality is worth it! Go check it out if you guys have a sweet tooth you won't be disappointed!

These cupcakes are so moist and delicious. Perfect texture, perfect flavors, perfect icing. The service was friendly and fast! Cannot recommend highly enough. I always use small cakes for all my kids Birthdays. They really did an amazing job on my son 6th birthday beyblade cupcakes. He was truly amazed at the design and flavors.

Cutcakes are wonderful. Like everything elsethey have gone up in price. The cupcakes are good but I don't think I will be visiting as much. $4 A CUPCAKE IS EXTREME. They will only be bought on special occasion.

This is my favorite cupcake shop and I’ve been to a lot of cake shops. I have a thing for cake. I come here way too much. The selection is awesome and the cupcakes are a good size and so moist. I spend so much money here but it’s cupcakes and we’re in a pandemic and I homeschool 5 kids. We should all be eating cupcakes.

These people are great. The cupcakes are always fresh and this time they did a fantastic job on some custom animal cupcakes for our son's birthday.

Literally the best place to get cupcakes in the Richmond Area! I loved them so much, I had them at my wedding which was 2 years ago and guests are still raving about the cake and cupcakes!! This location is 30 minutes from me, but so worth the drive!! Every bite is moist and flavorful! Give them a try, I promise you'll be hooked!!

I’ll say the stars are because the cupcakes and smash cakes are good but they are ALWAYS sold out of their specials by mid afternoon which is good for their business but poor for customer service. Why don’t you have enough to at least make it until 5pm? I just went and it’s 3:30 and they had barely anything left of any flavors. They close at 6. Pretty sad

I went today and got a beautiful Sweet watermelon cupcake . The guy who assist me told me that they use Watermelon flavoring . When I tried the cute cupcake was a normal Vanilla cupcake with green food coloring nothing close to the taste of watermelon . I cant lie its was a beautiful cupcake but no flavor at all . And is cost almost $5.00. Defintely im not going back again .

My husband and I tasted tested several bakeries for our wedding and hands down LOVED Smallcakes. Their cupcakes are freaking delicious! The staff were wonderful to work with throughout the entire process and were extremely flexible especially during the pandemic as we had to reschedule our wedding twice. We ordered a two-tiered cake in the Wedding Cake flavor, and 3 dozen of the Decadent Chocolate, Red Velvet and Lemon Berry cupcakes and literally everything was pretty much gone by the end of the night! Even two days later as we were finishing the leftovers, the cake and cupcakes were still moist and delicious. Highly recommend Smallcakes Richmond!

Best customer service! I called to place a order for a small order of cupcakes. The lady I spoke to on the phone was patient, knowledgeable and helpful. I happened to be o running errands prior to my pick up time and I called to see if they could have my order done a little earlier. It was already ready so I was able to pick it up and not make an extra trip. The cupcakes are delicious!!!

This fantastic store came through for me when my original baker backed out of a commitment to make cupcakes for her 40th birthday party a week out. Smallcakes created 30 gorgeous, gluten-free cupcakes and gave my wife pure joy. Not only were they wonderfully decorated, they taste great and all of our guests enjoyed them!

Quick and easy with a good selection

This is an adorable cupcakery. We purchased these for my son's birthday and it was nice because everyone was able to choose their flavor. They use alot of icing which is great they also pipe a bit in their cupcakes.. if you are not a fan of icing you probably will not love this place because while the cake is good the icing is what makes their cupcakes amazing, in my opinion.

Not knowledgeable about their own product. I was calling to inquire about sugar free or gluten free options. I was put on hold, given the run around, and told 3 different answers. That's a hard NO from me.

This place is probably good for honeymooners or those who are in puppy Love. Those who care only about presentation. I bought half a dozen in different flavors and it was far far from good. My sons comment was waist of money to spend for a cupcake with no taste. I will not go back to this place again.

Charming shop and friendly services. Today I chose a Lemon drop cupcake; it was so moist and delicious. I am a big fan of anything lemon and this did not disappoint. The frosting was not overly sweet and no bad after taste you get when other business use lots of artificial ingredient. Also, I loved the packaging. Silly thing but it goes into to the overall experience. Well done! I really enjoyed every bite and can't wait to go back to try the Boston Cream!
