The reason for the average rating is mostly due to how long the event is. The food was average and on par with most other luau that we've been to. The service is great, and the staff were very friendly. The real issue is a very long event at 4 hours. Also, we were told this was a smaller event smaller event, but it had over 300 people, I recommend they shortened the event to 3hrs.

1 star for excellent friendly staff + 1 for the resort/stage. We came for the show only, as the food reviews were so so. Most performers not as experience, some are young, except for the last fire dance performer, as we've seen similar fire dance in Seattle. The Japanese dance seemed out of place, and so is the Philippines bamboo dance (filler perhaps?). The free hula shows at the local shopping malls near resorts gave us a better Hawaiian vibes, which we enjoyed. They're more graceful and experienced, with local vibes, though not as a big group, and no fire dance. The show only entry time didn't give us enough time to explore their garden. Don't think we'll be back for the garden, for $25/tix. This may be fun for first-timers, family with kids, though during our show, the kid behind us screamed to leave bcz of the fire, poor lad.

Smith’s family luau was such a unique and special experience - I am SO glad we chose this specific luau over any other hotel luau we were offered. Touring the beautiful grounds with unique flowers and trees and mountains in the background was stunning. The family provides a delicious buffet with live music and unlimited delicious drinks. Afterward we saw a really great show with many different traditional dances and performances. Mahalo nui Smith’s!!

The Smith Family Fern Grotto boat ride and Luau were a huge highlight of my family’s vacation on Kauai. The entire family and staff were so kind and welcoming. The food was spectacular, the gardens were beautiful everywhere you looked and the sharing of their culture during the performance after dinner was so special. Thank you for this experience!!

Our family had a fantastic time at the Smith Family Luau. Before the luau starts, you can rent kayaks or take a boat tour on the river. We arrived at 5 PM for the 6 PM dinner and took a complimentary tram ride through the gardens, followed by a leisurely stroll to explore the grounds and take some beautiful photos. When you enter, they take an official photo with two dancers in traditional attire, which is available for purchase for $30. We chose not to buy it since it felt a bit odd to have a photo with strangers in our home. The overall price was reasonable, especially with the $10 discount per adult ticket through the Shaka Gold membership. Dinner begins at 6 PM and includes live entertainment. Alcohol is unlimited and included in the price. The buffet-style meal was typical and offered a variety of options, so everyone found something to enjoy. They also offer tea and coffee, though I wouldn’t recommend the decaf—it was quite bad. The show starts at 8 PM and lasts about an hour, featuring various traditional dances performed by skilled dancers. Fire show at the end. The dedicated areas for dining and performance created a wonderful atmosphere that felt distinct from hotel luaus. The gardens are stunning, and even though the venue is large, it never felt crowded. Free parking on site. Suitable for children and teens. Overall, this was an excellent experience that I would highly recommend!

Even before we got there, the service was impeccable. I booked a surprise wedding vow renewal for my wife and I while we were there. We were picked up at the gate, had a private tour of the gardens, before the surprise to my wife wedding vow renewal complete with music and a photographer. The minster and all involved were amazing. From there, pictures around the gardens, the river cruise to the fern grotto, dinner, drinks and the lagoon theater show. Amazing day. Made my wife and I both cry. Couldn't have been better. Truly thank you all for putting my big surprise together. My wife and I both will truly never forget it.

While I am unsure about the authenticity of the luau (not informed enough about this, I recommend reading other reviews to learn more if this is a concern of yours), I can say that my fiancé and I really enjoyed our night spent at the Smith Family Garden Luau. We got there right at 5pm, and we enjoyed our time walking around the garden before the dinner. We were initially hesitant about the open seating, but we actually befriended those around us fairly quickly, and this definitely added to our experience. There were many food options, and everything we tried was very good. The show was also entertaining, and it was really nice that they had so many dancers across the stage because this meant every seat had a good view for the show.

Smithies our 2nd Luau in Kauai. We loved the experience from the beginning until the end. Family owned, mom was welcoming guest in the front and serving dessert, soon was hosting and did a wonderful job interacting with the crowd from beginning to end; Imu ceremony, during the buffet singing and entertaining, walk to the show and thanking all guest, to other family working throughout and very helpful. Vibes were genuine from all. The show was beautiful and had many different dances from all bothers and sisters around. Thank you for a wonderful time! Food was delicious Hawaiian Mac was my favorite and the coconut cake was so light and tasty! The variety of alcoholic drinks yumm, chichi was tasty. The grounds were clean and beautiful scenery.

This is a solid option for a luau experience but is it the best? Not so sure. It's hard to explain how incredible this location actually is. It's like traveling back in time to when Elvis visited the island. You start the experience by taking a trolly ride around the 30 acres to get an idea of how the area is before walking it. Then you get to feed the animals around the lakes, which range from peacocks to chickens. Next, they open up the Imu to pull the roasted pig which has been cooking for 9 hours out of the ground. Next is the dinner which I don't have words to describe. They should have sent a poet. The drinks are perfect and so is the food. I thought places like this didn't exist anymore. Finally, you have the Luau and all the dancers. Lots of fire and live music. I'm going to end it hear because I don't want to spoil anymore of it

Wonderful gem on the island of Kauai. The Smith Family Gardens are beautiful with many specimen trees, flowers, and birds. There is a group photo opportunity at the start of the evening and the developed photos are next to the amphitheater currently for $30 when the main luau show starts. There is a tram to initially tour the grounds and then guests can explore on their own until the dinner and entertainment starts. There is lots of food and drinks available. A little tip, the second restrooms by the amphitheater are less used until the luau show starts.

Pros: Nicely landscaped grounds; guests sit facing the show (not looking sideways, like at many luaus). Cons: Performers are far away (not as intimate as most luaus); some of the music was extremely, painfully schmaltzy (not Hawaiian!); watered-down drinks (like most luaus); roofs over dinner seating and show seats shelter guests from rain, but creates a very non-Hawaiian (sterile) environment.

Every time we visit Hawaï, we go to a luau. This time we checked out the Smith Family Luau. I had some hesitation initially at the cost, but after attending, it was well worth it. My family concluded that it was not only the best luau we ever visited, it was also the tastiest! The grounds of the luau are like a botanical paradise. We took a tram ride around that was a bit speedy, but gave a brief overview of the gardens. Then we were able to meander around exploring while waiting for the luau to begin. There were beautiful peacocks exploring, as well as lots of chickens, some ducks, and various other birds. The flowers and tropical trees were meticulously maintained. The luau itself began with the Imu ceremony and cocktails/mocktails. The owner of the luau explained his family story, which was very enjoyable. We found our seats and waited to be told when the buffet was ready. The buffet was displayed with six lines so there was minimal wait time. Everyone seemed to be served quickly and we were told to revisit the buffet table as often as we wanted. I enjoyed the pork, the mahi mahi, and the teriyaki beef the best. There were three types of bread, all tropical flavors, that were delicious. There was also a dessert table with fruits, cakes, and rice pudding. The bar remained open throughout dinner. There was live music during dinner too. After the dinner, we walked over to the theatre area and enjoyed a 45 minute long show that was just spectacular. The dancers and singers were so talented! We had the opportunity to purchase a family photo before and after the show for $30. It was a great photo of us so I had to buy it. We will definitely attend this luau the next time we visit Kauai!

Great place, friendly people, and good food! It's a little touristy but in a very fun and homely way. Love the family business aspect, and the property was nice!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Yes, the food could be better here & there, but it's all you can eat. The pork and beef were great. The premade mixed drinks were weak on the alcohol, but it's also all you can drink (during dinner). The gardens/grounds are BEAUTIFUL. I can't say enough about how well-kept they are. The staff were all great, and the after-dinner show was quite good. Our only complaint is regarding the bench seats in the show theater. They're just plain uncomfortable. The seat padding helps, but they're basically bleachers with a small cushion. We had to stretch after the show. That said, we would do this luau again. Highly recommended!

As far as kalua pork goes, the absolute best! Such a lovely place to visit, much less enjoy food, delightful music, and hospitality. What a fantastic family venue. Wow! Plus the show's inclusion of and highlightingbother island cultures is fantastic.

Garden tours with buffet style food and Luau show after dinner. Food is so good with many choices. Everything goes so smoothly. Awesome staff.

Great luau and amazing grounds. Came here back in 2007 and brought my family back in 2024! Staff was super friendly and helpful, food was great, and performance and music was top notch!! Best on the island!!

So the grounds are nice and the show was amazing. The food was really just okay. Seating arrangements were confusing in the beginning as they had name place holders on some tables, quickly learning after kindly asking a not friendly employee, where to sit. If there are napkins in cups you sit there. The open bar was really bad alcohol and mixed drinks, Mai tais were unpalatable. Hawaiian punch was good. Dinner was alright specially the steak and pork. Macaroni salad was great and salads were good too. Fully understanding that it is a buffet and it’s made for hundreds but for the price paid I expected a bit more. The cultural performance at the end of the night was the only thing that was worth the price as it was open air and nice to see the many cultural representations for the many people who made this place home.

The grounds are beautiful. Just lovely. Lots of pretty photo opportunities. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. The food is horrendous. I couldn't stomach any of it. My teenage sons even said it wasn't good. The show seems outdated. It totally reeks of The Brady Bunch and early 80's eras. I would search for a more authentic luau if I were to look again. It's definitely overpriced for what it is.

I can’t say enough about this amazing place. They take you on a riverboat to the foreign bravo. After, you get to take a short walk through the forest, then you end up in a beautiful landscape filled with wildlife. Exceptional ceremony, food, and performers. I’ve been to several luaus from other companies, and this is by far the best. I’ve visited twice and would happily go again.

Be WARNED. There are a LOT of mosquitoes in this property especially in the waiting area. I found it ridiculous that they took that as an opportunity to sell mosquito repellent wipes for 2$ each after you paid 140$ for the experience. Food 4.5/5. Some of this food was super delectable. The teriyaki steak and Kalua pork made me go back for seconds and third. Drinks 4/5. The muay thais seemed a bit watery but still tasted fine. Show 5/5. The highlight of the night. The property 3/5. Nothing too crazy here. I would recommend this experience to others.

I’ve been here twice over the span of 10 years. On the whole, they do a great job. The grounds are beautiful. The whole operation feels like a family run operation. Mostly this is a good thing. The time it feels a little forced is perhaps with the entertainment. The dancers seem like granddaughters and grandnieces, and maybe wouldn’t have been those that would have passed a selection process. The food: the Kalua pork is AMAZING! so stunningly delicious. The other meat dishes are very good! Starches - I give mixed reviews. Instant mashed potatoes!? Not a great idea. I’d either do real or none at all. Sweet breads felt very store-bought and generic. Some freshly baked rolls would have been really great. Lastly, the seating for the show has great sight lines but the width of the actual bench you sit on is thin and forces your body into an unnatural posture. Not comfortable. They desperately need to upgrade their seating. I’m sure they know this but would struggle to shut things down for a few weeks or months to make this happen.
