What a fantastic establishment. From the service to the food to the atmosphere. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and made wonderful recommendations. Food arrived promptly and everything was fresh and delicious.

Such great food, awesome service, and it’s always a joy coming back!

My first visit. So many people in the community say this place is wonderful. Clearly none of these folks come from the west coast where great Asian food abounds. The 2 appetizers came 45 minutes apart, our meals were just terrible. More onions than chicken and i had twice as much chicken as my daughter, same dish. We will never go back. To go orders took precedence over those in the restaurant. Horrible experience overall.

I came in to pick up a order i placed and seemed like no one wanted to do theyre job as i waited and than was given a nonchalant attitude.

Been here a couple of times. The food was good, as was the service. I really liked the tempura veggies (zucchini, broccoli, carrots, and onion). The egg rolls were good, just a bit greasy. Sushi was good & fresh. I recommend giving this restaurant a try.

Moved from St Pete and was worried I couldn’t replace my go-to sushi spot. Wrong. This place is better. I love that the sashimi is served on ice. I’m a slow eater and loved having the chilled on my plate. Have been here a dozen times now. Tiny spot with a busy dinner service. I take myself here for lunch frequently. It’s a great deal. Dining alone including tip for less than $20 mid day.

The food is awesome just need a bigger place. Not much room to move around. But its our favorite place to go.

First time being able to try this place because it's always so popular. Excellent food, great service, and we'll definitely be back. Wide variety of sushi and very fresh. The garlic edamame, tempura, and hibachi were excellent. Nice selection of beer and wine. I highly recommend this place 👌

MY FAVORITE PLACE IN THE HISTORY OF MY LIFE!! I mean, my family and I have been eating here since the opening of their original restaurant down in Riverview- Tokyo- YEARS ago! It's my FAVORITE hibachi food HANDS DOWN! The BEST yum-yum sauce HANDS DOWN in my personal opinion. Both ginger sauces- for steak and the salad dressing- are actually BOMB! Soup - AMAZING AND FLAVORFUL Salad- FRESH AND YUMMY. EVEN THEIR NOODLLLEESSS Food AMAZING. Everything we've tried on this menu is a 10/10! I mean if I could give more than 5 stars, I would. The service is TOP! Our family has come to know many of their Servers past and present and they are just so kind and welcoming and it's like we have formed relationships just through eating at this restaurant. The owner is absolutely so sweet and LEGITIMATELY ONE OF THE HARDEST WORKERS OUT THERE The space is welcoming and quant and just makes me happy when I take my step in :) I have brought people from different stages of my life here to eat and take part of some of my childhood. I still have a vivid memory when I realized not all yum yum sauces were equal to Sunflowers. We had traveled to my home country Venezuela and went to eat some hibachi with our family to find out they didn't have yum yum sauce and didn't know what it was, I remember I cried the whole drive to our home down there missing Tokyo AKA Now Sunflower Cafe and then feeling so sad that that restaurant in Venezuela would never come to know fhe beauty of sunflower cafe on Lithia :,) . I mean, the owner of this restaurant is a huge part of my childhood, and still to this day, my family and I eat here! Sunflower cafe was never just a "restaurant" to us, but it is Family :) Anyways, I never thought I would write such a deep review for a restaurant on yelp in my life.. but here I am.

Edit: Returned for a quick lunch. The experience was much better. ___________________________________ Really upsetting experience. We dined in on a busy weekend night. My wife and I ordered an entree each and a roll to share. After nearly an hour, we asked our waitress for an update on the food. She brought out our shared roll, but not the entrees. We looked over and noticed that another table who had been there before us, still didn't have their food. We decided to cut our losses, eat the shared roll, and cancel our entrees. At this point, a person who we believe to be the owner, came over to our table to verify that we wanted to cancel. She then proceeded to yell back to the kitchen area from the dining room, asking the chefs how long until the food was ready. The chefs responded loudly, seemingly frustrated. By now, the restaurant was quiet and focused on us, which made us uncomfortable, so we wanted to leave regardless. We reiterated that we would like to leave, got our check, and left. I understand that things get crazy, especially when they are taking to-go orders, but then they need to understand that we may not be willing to wait that long. The owner could have been more hospitable and not made a scene. There was never an apology from the owner. Really disappointing experience. I will end by saying that the waitress was kind and professional.

I came here the other day and we ordered sushi and a poke bowl. It was the best Unagi I've ever had in my life. Huge filets of the most yummy BBQ eel sit ontop. I also got the poke bowl. For just $2 extra dollars you can add a second seafood. I got volcano mix and spicy tuna. I mixed up everything the way it came including the large amount of wasabi and ginger wondering if it would be too much. It was actually perfect! It was so good we went back the very next day and ordered the same things! Wish I had pics but I ate it so fast before I thought of it.

I've been in Tampa for 12 years but new to the Valrico area. I picked some to go for lunch today. Unbelievably good with larger than expected portions. Best sushi I've had in the bay area hands down.

No issues... Arrived Saturday @ 1200 (opens @12) several parties four groups counting us waiting for the Cafe to open... worth the wait. Went a little overboard and order little everything... Very rare to find a Japanese chef in Tampa. One can get traditional or all the Hollywood funk named rolls... all good. Took my Japanese mother and she loved it there... we definitely will be coming back. .. So what we try tuna roll, California roll, mario brothers tempura roll, chirashi (made with fish my mom request from chef), beef bulgogi (Japanese style w/ vegetables) hot water w/ lemon and green tea... all very good and great value... imho.

The reason for 2 star is their portions have changed. It was a little embarrassing the last serving we received. It is good apart from that!

They said The wait would be 20 minutes, but it was over an hour. we saw multiple people go inside and get seated before us even though they said we were next. The food was mid, and going there really wasn’t worth it. The atmosphere was very cramped and dim lit. We had to wait for our food for another hour. I would not recommend going here at all.

Some of the best hibachi around for a good price. Steak is not tough like many other hibachi places. Will get the Dolsot Bibimbap next time I dine-in as they can’t serve it for takeout. Great selection of sushi, hibachi, and bowls.

We went for the 1st time and were disappointed. We arrived before 8:00pm (they close at 9) we were seated and ordered around 8:18 pm. (A short wait for a busy Friday night) Around 8:50 most of the rush was over but we hadn’t gotten our food, servers were wonderful but they started putting the chairs on the tables next to us. We received our sushi after 9pm (all on 1 plate) but no dishes. We had to ask twice for plates. We were given little bowls typically given for a side of soy sauce. The sushi was delicious!! Beautifully presented and despite polite servers, definitely would not return.

My wIfe and I got a Hot tip about this place. Simply stated, they have not only the largest assortment of sushi/sashimi/etc we've ever seen, it was hands down the best! Who serves edible and gorgeous orchids with the dishes of food?? If presentation matters, THEY WIN!! if it's quantity that matters, they at least TIE. If it's the taste you're after, THEY WIN AGAIN!! This was the first time we sat at the bar and we're able to watch Michael and Louis prepare dishes of food. In a calm, precise manner they whipped up plate after plate of food. Unlike many Hibachi steakhouses where the chefs cook rapidly and fling food and rice everywhere, these two gents were controlled and deliberate in their food prep. We tried two dishes we'd never heard of, the LOTUS FLIWER, AND THE BATMAN ROLL. Michael told me the Batman Roll is the hardest to make dye to it's being partly crusted and fried. It's not a big place, but not a joke in the wall either. I guess they can seat about 35 people. It's intimate, with no "chain store" feeling. You get all this for a reasonable price too!! The owner works there, and seemed to know almost everyone. THAT'S one of the signs of a good business! All in all, they get 12 out of 10... 👌👌👌👍👍👍👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆

We love this place! The Cafe is tiny, so sometimes there is a wait, and they are hiring all positions right now, so it was a bit slow last night. But the service is friendly and the food is fantastic. We've been a couple of times and will definitely be back.

We loved this place and had been here several times with small group and a little bigger group 9 to be exact but today they lost our business. We came in at 5:08pm which they open at 5 and they did not have a table they can accommodate us but we were trying to find a way to make it work with kids in one table and adults in another and as where speaking to the owner a set of other people walk in and she completely disregarded us and proceeded to sit them and ignore me. We were there to celebrate my birthday and we had to leave. Called over to Sushi Ushi and they were able to accommodate us for 6:30. So disappointed as the food is amazing and the server Savannah is awesome too. Unfortunately will not be returning.

Wonderful place, my brother in law suggested it. Oh my goodness it was a fantastic experience the food was outstanding and the service was great. Nice people and a Wonderful atmosphere and we just loved it. Definitely a 5 star experience. I recommend everyone in Tampa if you love sushi this is the place for you. I will never go any place else.

The woman who took my takeout order was very friendly and helpful. However I ordered nigiri and received sashimi. The most fishy and chewy red snapper I've ever had. The clear soup was very watered down, no flavor. The two sushi rolls were average. I won't be back again.

Sunflower Cafe adds an extra ingredient that most restaurants don't even have on their shelves. That ingredient is the love.

Cute little cafe, I ordered the dolset bibimbap- it was good. The cafe is really small and gets crowded fairly quickly.

Food was delicious! I don't get to get sushi very often... especially good sushi!!! So when I found this place we jumped on it! The sushi rolls were outstanding! Some of the best I've had! This places was packed and stayed busy all night! My only complaint with the meal tonight was the service. Our server was sub-par. Not very attentive to us or the food. Our rolls sat up on the counter for roughly 15 minutes before coming to us. The other servers seemed to be on point though! All in all I would eat here again because the food was so good!

My daughter and I decided to get takeout from here on Monday (10/16/23) we’ve eaten here before and liked it. Unfortunately, this experience was entirely different! I ordered the shrimp tempura and my daughter had the ramen. Come Tuesday morning I was in the bathroom throwing up and I will save you from the what else was happening. Come to find out I had food poisoning. I knew it was from the shrimp tempura because I had nothing else to eat after that. Now I have had the shrimp tempura before with no adverse reactions so, I know I’m not allergic to anything in this dish. I’m sad to say that I will be giving this business anymore of my patronage. I advise future customers to consume with caution. If you’ve ever had food poisoning you know what I’m talking about.

Fresh and delicious. This was my first visit, but it will not be my last. I had the sweet and sour chicken box with soup, spring rolls, salad, and vegetables. Others with me had the sushi. Everyone enjoyed their food.

My wife truly enjoys this restaurant.

The sushi was fresh and the noodle soup was good. However we didn’t like the hibachi, takoyaki, or stir fried noodle. They were either mid or too sweet. It was around $70 = $80 after tips for two people (we ordered too much - so more like 3 people with a little bit of leftovers). Service is super good and atmosphere is friendly. Personally will only go back for the sushi. 🍣🍣🍣

The miso soup was perfect. Our Love it roll/tuna nigri were excellent. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. Atmosphere was not loud, we could chat and not hear other conversations. ALL AND ALL, we will be back again.

I thought this place was going to knock it out of the park because of all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, the food was only so-so and the service was not good. We ordered dumplings as an appetizer and they came out 40 minutes later. We also ordered sushi and fried rice. The sushi was just okay but the rice didn't come out until we were completely done with our meal. We told them to just box it up so we could leave. We were pretty disappointed.

Drove 20 minutes to try this place, and I must say: it was worth the trip! Prices were good, service was friendly, portions were generous, and the sushi... Umami. We'll be going back!

Food here was amazing! The kids meal is really awesome, noodles, rice, and teriyaki, and a bit of fruit. My kiddo loved it. The sushi was awesome as well! Will definitely eat here again soon. It was very busy and bustling for lunchtime. They need a larger cafe, but a great problem to have!

Sunflower Cafe has a decent Tonkotsu Ramen, better than any other noodle joints in Tampa Bay area. You can take my word for it as I was born and raised in the capital of Tonkotsu noodle. 👍

Amazing Japanese food tucked away in my very own town! Beautiful interior with awesome service (Thanks Savannah and Allison!) and, of course, delicious fresh food every time. Try the sushi omakase box, it’s fantastic.

Sunflower always has a wait outside, so our family finally decided to check it out. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. The food was delicious. We had the tempura appetizer, sushi, a kid's meal, miso soup, a soup dish, and a noodle dish. Everything was delicious! Our waitress was very attentive, and the owner made her rounds to check on everyone. We will definitely be back.

One of the best local places to grab some affordable high quality sushi in the Brandon area. We have been coming here often for lunch and dinner and the food is simply amazing, affordability is also spot on. A dinner for 3 will run you around $50 to $70, vs if you went to most anywhere else like for example sushi ninja, you will be paying closer to 100 and easily passing it. The fish is flavorful, the staff are attentive, she place is conzy and intimate. Be aware the place gets busy, like 20 to 40 minute wait busy in the evening so plan accordingly.

Got some sushi. 🍣 The Futomaki roll and California roll were delicious. I also recommend green tea ice cream without chocolate syrup. Yum.

This quaint family restaurant never disappoints! From the steak fried rice and bento boxes to the sashimi and sushi it's always amazing. I've been frequenting Tatsu and Kumi's restaurants for almost 15 years. The Sunflowet continues to be my top 3 favorite restaurants in the area.

Excellent sushi specials. Be aware that they may be very spicy which I really like. Have box dishes and mild dishes too. Not a large place and is very popular so some nights like Friday may require long wait times. Worth the wait. Atmosphere is friendly.

Took our family here. My kids are young so they don’t eat sushi but they had kid friendly options here. The service was great. Everyone was super friendly. The food was amazing. The atmosphere/environment was awesome. We’ll definitely be coming back !
