I have been going to this place on and off for years through their various closes and opens. I hope this time it sticks because the food is stunning. Love the various cultures the menu represents. 5 stars all around.

The steak Au Poivre was the best I've had in Florida. The place was small and intimate. You can hear yourselves speak. We had a special request that wasn't on the menu. Instead of grilled octopus, we asked for grilled calamari.The chef said no problem and prepared it wonderfully.

This is exactly what Ocala needs, flavor! No salt or pepper needed on the table, all the flavor is on the plate that comes out! The "lomo saltado" is by far the best I've had (so far).. if you want your taste buds to experience true gourmet food this is the place!

What a find! Don’t let the strip mall location fool you. When we called…as we were in town for a concert…for a reservation the Chef answered and ended the call saying “I look forward to cooking for you tonight.” Knew that was a great sign. Amazing food. Do not miss the grilled octopus and the ceviche. So fresh and delicious. Portions are generous. Can’t recommend this tiny gem enough.

I have to say I spent 100$ on food that was pretty mediocre. I have had Peruvian food elsewhere much less and much more delicious. I was so excited to come here and I am completely upset with the quality, food and service. My meat tasted like blood and it had so much fat on it. We had to continually ask for refills. The organization was pretty bad. The table was dirty upon arrival and there was no attempt To clean it. Overall terrible experience for the price I paid.

We attended today to celebrate Mother's Day and to start we were served by Valeria who has full knowledge of food in general, the restaurant was very nice and cozy, the food was spectacular, the kitchen team definitely seems to be trained because it has been excellent experience 10/10

My husband and I have been dying to try this place but they are open Wed-Sunday limited times which is good for a family business. We finally were able to make it and everything was delicious from drinks, to appetizers, to dinner! The Chachi Morada drink was so good and it’s made from purple corn! We will definitely be returning!!

This was our first visit to Taverna. We decided to go for a special anniversary dinner. We were blown away by the food! We started with chef's choice appetizer. Very lightly breaded, tender calamari. Hubs selected the beef, and I went directly for the seafood. Everything was superbly seasoned. The fish filet was perfectly cooked along with shrimp, mussels (to die for!), and scallops. The chef came to our table and told us about the food...all made by him in house. We ended with decadent desserts. Also, the presentation of each dish was beautiful. We could not have selected a better dining experience. Highly recommend Taverna Berrocal!

Don't let the size and location fool you. This little place has the most gorgeous display, it feel like I'm walking into another country, and the food is amazing. My server was Amanda and I'm so happy she was. Compliments to the chef!

This was our first time trying Peruvian food and we'll definitely be back! The service was great, the food was delicious. (*On Google it says reservations are required, but this is not true. You can just show up for dinner.) Now for the food: I had the Aji de Gallina - the chicken was tender and the sauce was yummy. I had chicha morada to drink, also tasty (sort of makes me think of a non-alcoholic sangria). Hubby enjoyed his Seafood Saltado and Inca Kola. Our friends raved about their Jalea. We had chocolate cake for dessert - it was very good and very chocolaty without being too sweet. Our server, Valeria, was attentive and explained the dishes and answered our questions. If you want authentic Peruvian food, give Taverna Berrocal a try!

Recently my wife and I enjoyed an excellent Saturday night at this hidden away Peruvian restaurant. We saw photos in other reviews and knew that chef Juan Carlos understood food presentation. After our dinner it was clear he also understood how to make it delicious. The atmosphere in this small restaurant was cozy, and comfortable, and the service was very attentive. We started with the Choros a la Chalaca as a spicy appetizer and moved to entrees of Seafood Saltado and Pescado a la Macho, both of which were excellent. While we enjoyed the spicy Choros, they were too pricey. Our entrees were priced fairly for such an enjoyable meal. We finished with deserts of Tres Leches and Tiramisu, both of which were excellent. This is a true gem in Ocala and we hope it grows in popularity. We would suggest adding some entrees in the $15-$20 range in order to attract a wider customer base, without losing the special feeling that their signature dishes provide. We love having an excellent non-chain restaurant that provides a wonderful alternative to the usual choices in Ocala.

Taverna berrocal is a special hole in the wall with one of the best Peruvian food around. The staff and the food is top notch, and unlike anything any other place I’ve been to in Ocala. Please come check this place out it’s worth the experience.

My family and I stumbled upon this restaurant while waiting for my daughters dance class to wrap up. Its a cozy little corner restaurant with a very clean and friendly atmosphere. I am so happy we tried it! The aroma emitting from the kitchen was enough to have my mouth watering before I even sat down. The server was so friendly and knowledgeable. We had a million questions about the menu and she was more than happy to explain everything. The food was AMAZING!!!! The steak just melted in your mouth, all of the ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. Everyone at the table ordered a different dish and none of us could choose a favorite, it was all so delicious. The Chef has definitely got it going on. We will 100% be back again and would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to try something new.

I’ve dined at this location at least 2-3 dozen times. I remember showing up hoping to eat at what was Sabores Latinos and disappointed that place was gone, but I was quickly won over. This place is great and it has gotten significantly better over time. At first, there were missed or incorrect orders but I haven’t had that happen in a long time. Orders used to take a much longer time. They still take longer than other places but it is reasonable for what you get. It’s not fast food. It’s a fantastic dining experience where everything is made to order. The chef is a real pro. Everything is top notch as far as quality and freshness. Plating is beautiful. It’s has been fun to watch this place evolve and grow. The addition of pizza was an amazing surprise. I did not think a Peruvian restaurant would/could serve great pizza but was proven wrong. The pizzas are top tier. I had never tried fried pizza before but it was awesome. The Americana is still the king(new York style pepperoni pizza with a perfect crust). One always has to judge a Peruvian restaurant by its papa a la huancaina. This place did not disappoint with that beautiful sauce. The fried rice(chaufa) is always cooked and seasoned beautifully. The lomo saltado is the best I’ve tried including NYC and Orlando locations. I enjoyed the ceviche the one time I had it. The calamari and jalea mixta are to die for (definitely the only way I’ve gotten my kids to eat fish). Too bad the pescado chicharrón is gone. The tallarín verde is great. I really wish they did the green rice and chicken (maybe one day). I hope the pescado alo macho makes a comeback. Ají de gallina and escabeche are probably my favorites off the current menu. The soups are hearty and well seasoned. The alfajores weren’t my favorite but that’s likely because they’re different than what I’m used to(these are more chewy whereas I’m use to the flaky kind). The chocolate cake was dense and chocolaty without being too sweet. The tres leches was less like the typical yellow cake and more of a pound cake or scone but stellar. The fried ice cream was AWESOME. I’m use to the Japanese style. This was more like an ice cream beignet and so much better. I had the tiramisu today and enjoyed it. The wine selection is impressive for the small location. It’s a weird reference but I feel like this is the Led Zeppelin of restaurants. The songs remain the same but don’t always sound exactly the same. I’m a fan of those surprises and it shows the passion of the chef. Not everything on the menu is always available, but I suspect it’s to maintain the highest standard of freshness that I’ve come to expect. Nicole is an amazing server and very attentive. The music and ambience is soothing and welcoming. This place deserves a lot more love from Ocala.

I can't believe we found this place. The food is amazing. The owner was so kind polite and explained everything we needed to know about the menu into our amazement every bite was worth every penny. I highly recommend you try it I've been there several times now and I can't wait to go back again.

Everything we ordered was delicious. The fried calamari with the dipping sauce, the Italian fries with the dipping sauce, the chicken soup was all natural & full of veggies and flavor. (I swear my immune system got a pick me up) and the sausage and mushroom pizza was different but good. 😊

Very disappointed first time ordering from here and never again. I order the arroz chaufa with beef to go. For $25 after taxes Not only was there barely no food in the container the food was cold. I definitely don't recommend. I would not come here again. I was really looking forward to this meal. Smh

The owner has a great attitude and personality and skill and his culinary choice plating and presentation and flavor. Pricing was reasonable. I can't wait to return it's going to be my new favorite I'm sure of it.

I cannot express how fabulous this restaurant is. This is a Peruvian experience that is an incredibly quaint and social experience. The Chef/Owner came out to make sure that we were happy with the food. Karrin, who was our server was so friendly and an incredible addition to the staff. The Food is outstanding and I can't express enough what you are missing if you don't immerse yourself in the food, the wine and music from the Owners own Father. I hope to reach those that are looking to experience a unique and amazing experience with food that is not your every day run of the mill Restaurant

We had a party of 5 & we all agree the the only word is WOW! The food is absolutely amazing! We will be back for sure. We all made a point to order something different & it was all great. We ordered the octopus appetizer & ceviche appetizer and they were both delicious! Our service was top notch...Karrin is the best! The chef came out to check on us, which was really cool. The atmosphere was small & quaint! Just can't say enough great things to say. Note: The Peruvian menu is only Thursday- Saturday.

First time at Taverna Berrocal and definitely not the last. Small, but very classy. If you have never tried Peruvian cuisine, it is fresh, healthy and utterly exquisite. The chef also offers some Italian cuisine, also beautifully executed. Our waiter was first class, personable and very knowledgeable. Can't wait to go back.

The BEST ceviche I have EVER had. The CHEF himself recommended Pescado (snapper) a lo macho and it was AMAZING. Our waiter, Brandon’s service was excellent!!!

AMAZING!!!! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! They are about to move to a larger location downtown, but we visited the smaller location. Very intimate, lots of suggestions from the server, who was wonderful by the way. We first ordered ceviche for an appetizer…WOW it was delicious. Large LARGE chunks of tilapia soaked in a lemon, lime, cilantro sauce….best ceviche we’ve had. Then the server recommend main meals which we of course chose. I ate the Lomo Saltado and listen…it was the best steak I’ve ever had. It melted in my mouth, literally! My husband had the Pescado Alo Macho, you choose the fish for the dish and he chose salmon. He said “this might be the best cooked piece of salmon I’ve ever had”, and he was right. We are so sad we didn’t eat here sooner and we cannot wait to visit again when they move.

This food was incredible, and is sincerely one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Our server Wendy was attentive and very pleasant, while Chef Juan Berrocal executed the dishes to perfection. This place is a hidden gem. We were looking for a quiet and unique intimate, chef owned restaurant, to celebrate my birthday. All boxes and more were checked. It’s not a large place, which to us is perfect. It has 9 tables inside and two outside. Two of the tables were setup for larger parties. Service was very lovely. The staff was attentive but not in your face. You walk away feeling you were welcomed into their home. Now the food… OH GOODNESS, I am lost for words. The flavors were beyond words. We started out with “Pupo Al Olivia” it’s a Tiradito sashimi octopus with an amazing olive botijo sauce. Quite the dish to start our evening. My husband had the “Tallarin Saltado Seafood” dish. It was a Peruvian stir fried noodles with a selection of seasonal vegetables, ginger, garlic, tomatoes. There were shrimp, mussels, scallops, calamari… the flavors were amazingly fresh and delicious. I had the “Gulf Shrimp Scampi”…AMAZING flavors. Not at all your typical shrimp scampi. It was creamy, not oily and the flavors were amazing. For dessert I highly recommend their in house made, tiramisu. It was the best I have ever had. We are so delighted we have found such a special place. I can assure you this placed will not disappoint. If you’re looking for dining experience unlike any, you really need to go try this gem of a restaurant. Thanks and appreciation to my husband, Chef and all the staff for making my birthday so special. I look forward to our next visit. I want try the “Andean Lamb” dish.

HANDS DOWN BEST RESTAURANT IN OCALA! My wife and I have been here multiple times over the last month and the food is just outstanding. Chef John is extremely skilled, having worked at top Michelin starred restaurants all over the world, and it shows. Even simple dishes like Fettucini Alfredo, merely an accompaniment, was perfect, the best I've had in a long time. He keeps changing the menu with the seasons, and that way you never get bored, there's always something new. Furthermore, he is a Peruvian who is also strongly influenced by cuisines of France, Italy, Japan and of course the USA. So there is an extreme diversity in the food on the menu, absolutely fascinating to see the stuff in there. Taverna Berrocal is going to be moving into a bigger place downtown soon, and I can see why - this level of talent needs to be displayed in a major way, he is an asset to the city and the Ocala community. Looking forward to more exceptional meals!

Returned after a few months hiatus and the restaurant has really settled in. Excellent wait staff (Wendy was super attentive) and creative menu with a delicious and affordable wine list, especially the Italian Merlot. Food was steaming hot with the right amount of spice. Although not as described in the menu (served my fresh fish with rice, instead of the potatoes as described) it was super tasty and fresh. The dessert (alfajores) melted in our mouth like cotton candy! I do wish the tapas menu featured a variety of lower priced items to sample/share, rather than being entree level prices. Looking forward to the tasting menu because there is obvious culinary talent on this team!

A real gem of a place worth seeking out, with creative, flavorful menu and warm hospitality. We were there with a family group. Our server Wendy (sp?) was very pleasant and attentive. Stand-out entrees were the aji di gallina, chaufa chicken and the pork chops. We also enjoyed the tapas - beef anticuchos, le figue, the bruschetta and the tiradita salmon mayacuya. Chef Berrocal showed us a wonderful time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our night at Taverna Berrocal last weekend! The four of us ordered and shared the jalea nazca, pulpo ala grilla, la figue, lomo saltado, Napolean lobster macaroni, and churrasco steak with tacu tacu. Each of these dishes was scrumptious- fresh, juicy, really perfect. Our waitress Lynn was super sweet and personable. Taverna Berrocal delivered a really special first visit. We look forward to returning, no doubt.

We booked a birthday dinner here for 8 people and it was just ok. My steak was overcooked and sides were cold. Server was clueless to items on menu and what the terms meant. Actually told my wife, she had no clue but could look on Google. Had no clue what black forest cake had for ingredients and just made it up...? I don't think anyone in our party would try it again. Everything was just a little off. Maybe just a bad night???

Came and enjoyed a nice, quiet dinner for 2. We made reservations on Google, but there were enough tables for walkins tonight (but only 8 tables inside). Cuisine was Peruvian, French, Italian. The highlights of the meal were the Octopus olivo and the Chimichurri skirt steak. Wait staff were pleasant and attentive. We hope to return and try some different items on the menu.
