First, the people who own Happy Hawg and work there are probably the nicest folks on earth! Not only do my husband and I love to eat at the restaurant, but I also place bulk orders when we have guests staying with us. Such an easy DELICIOUS meal to serve. All our houseguests fall in love with the barbeque at first bite, and subsequently request a Happy Hawg meal during their future stays. I always buy extra pulled pork and baked beans because I freeze these items for future meals. I also use some of their pulled pork in my homemade vegetable stew. Eating at Happy Hawg will fill your stomach with THE BEST bbq (no fat or gristle!) and sides you ever put in your mouth! Be careful, you might eat like a "hawg" there, but, boy-o-boy, you will be happy!

The service here is worse than you can probably imagine. They make the DMV feel like Disney World. The chicken wings (which taste boiled) are small enough to fit two next to each other in a shot glass. Try one of the other bbq places around and avoid this tiny place.

I'm from out of town and I have never been here before today. I wanted some stew to go,I thought I would try this place. The stew was great! The cashier very rude.the cook or line person put my stew in a bag no silverware and the lid was not on good by the time I got to my destination it ha spilled in the bag . I did manage to get a few bites in. Very disappointed with sevice.

Woman was rude, sauces were wrong, and really only good for takeaway. Pic of the $5 corn included. Also, the Styrofoam melted to the chicken or toast

Pretty average food. Acceptable but not great. Nice view overlooking the lake.

Stopped on before a concert in town. The BBQ was very good. My wife had ribs, which she enjoyed. Great sides. Not cheap, but the food was worth it.

The brisket and chicken were absolutely delicious. We had lunch outside and enjoyed the wonderful view of the water. The food is fantastic but the best part of our experience was Ms. Aleda who took our order. She was full of love and kindness and checked on us outside several times. I would come back just for her! 😃

Love the food, but the prices are through the roof. 40.00 for lunch for 2 people. Pork plates, drinks, and a small extra cup of beans that they charged $4.85 for. Too high for many return trips, but food was great. Just too expensive.

The pulled pork was tasteless. The Cole slaw was cabbage and sugar. The beans were right out of a can. Cashier a little grouchy, I mean really grouchy. Dine elsewhere.

From Louisiana we were here on a contract in the mountains and wanted bbq, went to 3 different bbq places during our stay in 2021! This was the best bbq I ever had in my life, best service, best prices, best quality, best taste! I always look for this place when I visit ga, it’s just so far! But it’s worth the 2 hour drive every time! I had to search my messages to find this place again! This time I will not lose it because I am putting a saved pin 📍 on it!

Amazing food and even more amazing service. If you have not been here i highly suggest you stop and enjoy both the food and southern hospitality. It is 5 stars all the way. We had the ribs and pork and pulled pork sandwich. Potato salad had just the right amount of flavor and spice. Smoky fall off the bone ribs and juicy pulled pork sandwich. Old school que served in an old school converted house with outside seating. Food was excellent, very casual.

This place is a gem in Hiawassee, Georgia! All of the staff were very friendly and the place had a hometown feel to it. I could tell this is where the locals come because everyone knew everyone by name. My wife and I both got the Little Piglets(sliders) with turkey and chicken. The Smokehouse Potato Salad was amazing! Slaw was perfect and beans were awesome! Now the fried corn was something to write home about!! Anyone passing through Hiawasee MUST stop here! We definitely will next time we come through.

Really good BBQ! We loved the pork sandwich, baked beans, and macaroni salad but everything is great. The sauces on the table are also really good! Must try!

Atmosphere offensive, the service was slow and not friendly, and BBQ is just ok. The mac n cheese is either Stouffers or canned. The smokehouse potatoe salad is good.

Stopped by for lunch while in the area and it did not disappoint! The food was some of the best bbq we have had in a long time. The sides were delicious as well! The service was excellent, it had a fun aesthetic and we felt a since of community. Would highly recommend this restaurant!

Lunch time for three! Order at the counter and they bring to you. Can dine indoors or out on covered porch. Indoor dining area is tight but definitely fits a good BBQ dining spot along with decor. Barely a wait for entrees. Pulled pork sandwiches were great. Loaded baked potato was great. Texas mustard and smoked potato salads were good. Their take on Brunswick stew was more of a soup and thin but still good. I’m used to more a thicker puréed stew. Service was great and friendly! Would definitely come back.

To the Karen who posted that the place is "Trumpy", I have no idea what she is talking about. Is good BBQ "Trumpy" to her? Bulldogs? Maybe all of Georgia. Of course she must not know either because she said she pulled into something marked "Exit". There are big signs as it is the exit of the drive through. But for all of you not bothered by following directions at a drive through, this is a great spot. Service is excellent, all the food is very good, and there is a reason it us busy from open to close.

The hickory potato is ambrosia in bbq form. You won't regret this treat.

This is a small hole in the wall but the food was very good. Plenty of meat on the pork sandwich.

Very Trumpy, which might be a plus for this area but good to know before taking your kids. Not a safe place. We got screamed at for accidentally pulling into the “exit” of a gravel, poorly marked, completely empty parking lot. But we had small kids so we figured we would go in anyways and eat lunch after a long hike. The fried corn is dripping with butter in a gross and unseasoned way. The pork is fine! Nothing you can’t find at every bbq shack in the southeast. The sauces are uninspired and too sweet (my 6 year old wouldn’t eat them because “no flavor, too sweet). In the end it was mediocre bbq and fine for our family stop but couldn’t recommend to anyone for several reasons.

Great food, friendly staff, we will eat there again. If you have a boat or trailer, parking is located down below the regular parking lot. The need a few extra signs, that's the only negative.

Pork was excellent as were all the sides we ordered coleslaw, beans, potato salad and Brunswick stew. We will be back!

Very good food!! Wanted the turkey but they were sold out but the incredibly nice lady talked me into half Smoked Chicken and Smokehouse potatoe salad...let's just say YUM!!! Collards were amazing too ! Love the atmosphere and view!! We will be back

This is the best BBQ in North Georgia. It’s a small building right off HWY76 on the west side of Hiawassee. I always get the chopped Pork Plate and my wife gets the Turkey Plate. We both love the smokehouse potato salad. She gets the corn on the Cobb and I get BBQ Beans. Make sure to get the Ribs, they tend to sell out quick.

If you like bbq then you must try this place. The only fault I can find is that everytime I've been they were out of the Brunswick stew and I'm positive it's only because it's so delish, so I can't wait to try it.

"A tattered cover makes for an interesting book" The Happy Hawg definitely "hit the spot". Really good food at a fair price. The Hostess and Staff were courteous and welcoming. An outstanding restaraunt for my working class family. The food was served just right with an assortment of BBQ sauces to please your pallette. No arches or "flashy lights on the hill" to fool you. Just everyday good food made by everyday good people.

Brunswick stew and smokehouse potatoe salad with 2 piglet slider pulled pork sandwiches. Worth a fifty mile drive. EXCELLENT

We worked with Justin to cater our Wedding. He was so easy to work with and the food was delicious. We will recommend Happy Hawg to anyone and will definitely stop in when we are back in Hiawassee!

Small place could not accommodate my party of ten they were also running out of stuff so we left.

Got our food to go. Been her many times. BBQ Is si good. The meat is good without grissle or fat. Has choice of 3 to 4 different homemade.varities of BBQ sauce. People are sweet and work very hard here. People always so nice that work here.

The Happy Hawg is your down home BBQ joint cranking out some fire que! We split a plate of pork, ribs and smoked chicken. The baby back ribs are juicy and succulent. The pork paired perfectly with delicious garlic toast. The smoked chicken was moist and flavorful. This is downright, great barbecue. Their beans were fantastic as well! Check these guys out for some of the best que around!

A real nice BBQ spot. I've spent a lot of time in the Georgia mountains. We've eaten at a dozen BBQ places. So far, it is the best of the bunch. Rub for brisket is amazing. My wife had chicken and pulled pork. Both had a great smoke and were juicy and tender. Friendly staff. The place is a little small, but had no seating issues. Easy to find.

We don't live in Hiawassee come to visit twice a month. My husband & i decided to visit this little restaurant. Well, here it is! The chopped chicken was good, I had Mac&cheese & bake beans. I don't eat pork but my husband said it was pretty good, the out dog even agreed with it.

The pulled pork was delish - not too fatty. The smoked potato salad and baked beans were also really good. All the staff were super friendly and even brought our doggos some water. We’d definitely go back - feels like one of those local treasure joints.

The food is to die for! It is so very good. We ordered and ate in the dining area on Friday night and then got to enjoy the food being catered to our family reunion that Sunday of the same weekend. Cannot wait to return on our next trip! The staff was very helpful and friendly! The owner takes pride in the food, his employees and their service. Highly recommend as it is the best restaurant in Hiawassee!

Amazing food, friendly staff! The restaurant is cozy, clean and family oriented! I wish we had one near home, we would eat there regularly. I have never experienced this kind of hospitality anywhere else. Kid friendly menu as well.

Better than any barbecue place I've ever had!

Setting aside food for a moment the best word I can use to describe the staff is unwelcoming and bordering unpleasant. We were treated as if we were an nuisance for simply asking for what we ordered. It was as of the employees and owners really dislike running a restaurant. No food is so good they I am willing to come back to be treated with such disdain. As to the food, it was pretty tasty. Pork sandwich was delicious and their sauces were perfect pairings to the meat. The ribs were tender and yummy. Baked beans were excellent. Macaroni and cheese tasted like it was a box made deal.

In Hiawassee for a get-away. This is a tiny road side spot with some of the most amazing ribs we've ever had. Cooked to perfection....tender, great smoky flavor, good sauce! Oh my! Bbq beans and tater salad were absolutely delicious as well! 2 thumbs up! 5 stars for sure! Pure bbq goodness! Do not miss if you are in the area!

My husband and I stumbled upon The Happy Hawg one day when we were driving around (from out of town) so we stopped in for lunch, and boy are we glad we did! We had The Happy Hawg cater our wedding in the mountains in April. Not only is the BBQ top notch, but so is their service. Justin was in contact with me from the beginning when I booked them and he came to help serve our wedding guests as well. I had a request for a vegan option needed for a couple of guests, they were more than happy to accommodate. Every single guest and staff at our wedding RAVED about the BBQ and sides they had that night. The vegan options we went with were baked potatoes and those guests said those were the biggest and best baked potatoes they’ve had. I am so happy to have had The Happy Hawg cater our big day and can’t wait to stop by when we’re back in town. Thanks again Justin and crew, y’all were great!

Hear the Stew was good but I have to say the Brunswick stew was really watered and I was very disappointed but people was very nice would go back to try the bbq maybe was a off day on the Brunswick stew

It is just a small, HomeTown kind of restaurant. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. The barbecue itself was very tender and delicious! The sauce variety was really good. The Brunswick stew, although different than what I'm used to, was really delicious as well. Excellent view of the mountains outside of this place. Will definitely be planning to come back!

Small building, big flavor. All the meats we got came dry (no sauce already on it). The ribs didn't need anything, easily just eat them with nothing added. I also had the turkey and pork. The beans and steakhouse potato salad are also quite tasty and the garlic bread was cooked just right. They also have three sauces, a sweet and mild, South Carolina vinegar based, and a North Carolina mustard based sauce. They were all good, but the NC mustard stood out for me. Staff was nice and the over all feeling was quaint and like at a friend's house.

I wish I took photos of my food, but it was eaten too quickly because it was so delicious! The hickory-smoked flavor of their chicken and ribs is amazing! The portions are more than generous for the price (even a half plate of chicken or ribs can be shared by two people if you aren't that hungry.) If you would like a larger portion of sides, I think they sell them by the pint and they cater but check with the restaurant to be sure. Their house potato salad is outstanding! (My only regret about the house potato salad was that I didn't order a larger size to have a second serving!) The online and drive-thru make for convenient ordering and pick up. The restaurant is designed for pick-up orders mostly. There are chairs and tables inside and out, but it's limited. Overall, great restaurant, just be sure to ask for extra BBQ sauce because you'll love it!

Dine-in experience was so much fun. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The BBQ pork sandwich was incredible. The potato salad was also really good and unique.

Excellent food and service Best I've had in a long time

On Thursday's the brisket is a preferred choice. Otherwise the ribs are good and all of the meat is moist and tender.

I have been eating here since my son was a little boy. He is a 21 year old MARINE now. The food is amazing and the owner and the employees are amazing too! When my son and his new wife come home it is mandatory that they stop in for the best barbecue any of us have ever had. Three generations of my family eat there on a regular basis. I just can’t say enough except if you try it you will love it!!! THE BEAT Q ANYWHERE I HAVE EVER EATEN!! Keep it up y’all!!!!

I'd put their BBQ up against anyone's. We drive 85 miles a couple times a year just to eat at the Happy Hawg. Well worth the trip.

Excellent food and service, do wish they had fries, but ALL the food is Excellent.

Drive through available with a little indoor and outdoor seating. Simple but good food in this small establishment that had steady business on a Saturday afternoon. Loved the Carolina Vinegar sauce on the cole slaw and I mixed the mustard sauce with sweet BBQ sauce on the pork sandwich. Delicious!

Some of the best barbecue I’ve ever had, and I’m from Texas! By far the best restaurant we encountered during our stay in Hiawasee earlier this year. The spicy mustard was amazing.
