What a magical place! The feeling of being “spirited” back to the past and seeing the scene of carriages arriving, women in gowns walking the lawns, and guests of the hosts enjoying the warmth of the fireplaces as piano music drifts in and around their conversations. Dining…awesome freshness, creativity, and delicious! First time I’ve had green and wax beans in the breakfast hash and it was so good! Dinner, well let’s say it couldn’t have been any better after my grilled trout but then dessert special came…orange and cardamom sorbet with raspberry sauce and fresh raspberries as garnish. Amazing!!!! Burst of flavor I’ve never experienced before and I could barely leave any in the dish even though I was stuffed!! 🥴. This place is a repeat vacation!!!

Had an excellent dinner with some new friends here while on a business trip. All the charm of visiting a Vanderbilt property. Loads of history, really great cocktails, really great food, and really great service. A must stop at if you are in VT. The trout was excellent and the tartar was very delightful. I loved my cocktails. Everything was so nice. Thank you!

This review is specific to our dining experience. The staff was wonderful, friendly and the ambiance was fantastic however, the food (dinner) was not what we expected. The kids burger was tiny and came with no sides (none are offered even for purchase). The lamb and chicken were both very small meals. The shephard's pie for two was delicious, but it was extremely small and definitely not large enough for two people as advertised. For $70 it was not worth it. The mussels special was good, but many of the mussels were closed and could not be eaten. The dessert was delicious. For an almost $700 bill, the food was definitely not what one would expect. We love visiting the farms, and have had brunch (and loved it), but we would not eat dinner at the inn again.

Restaurant review: Food and drink, excellent!! Recommendations: I recommend anything with cheese! 👍🏼That’s always going to be a good bet at shelburne farm. Drink recommendation: “waning gibbous.”👍🏼 Chocolate ice cream was very rich and chocolaty. 👍🏼 My entree was the trout. It was very good. Service, excellent, very friendly! Atmosphere, excellent!! Unique!! Located in an authentic gilded age mansion/estate/farm. Very beautiful. Restaurant is only open in warm months d/t it does not have ac or heating. It did get a little warm too inside. If your the type that runs warm, I’d recommend dressing for the heat,👍🏼 nice shorts/sandals/short sleeves. Would be an excellent place to have a great gatsby /downton abbey party. Price: $300 for 2 adults, 2 kids. To include several drinks and tip.

It is a lovely place, but it is also the embodiment of Guilded Age type wealth inequality. The garden is lovely, so if you’re able to get there and can afford a visit, lucky for you.

Restaurant: had a dinner there, both left underwhelmed. Burrata with pesto was great but the gorgeous bread coming with it was burnt and tough to bite. Oysters didn’t have much taste (tasted like lake water to me). Shells with meat were … rustic. Not impressive. Decent home cooking. Nothing elevated. Scallops were too salty (altho perfectly seared and fresh) and the clam sauce they came with was too salty too. Didn’t finish. The Cherry pot de creme was below average too. Cocoa nibs don’t belong there - they are bitter and way too tough to bite compared to other ingredients. Didn’t enjoy the dessert. Waiters and staff were pure perfection, location and view are magnificent.

(Restaurant Only.) Absolutely a must visit if you are in town or near Burlington. I don't understand any of the bad reviews regarding portion size and pricing. All menu items were described by our waitress as basically appetizer size and meant to be shared. Don't like to share? You can order 1 lighter item as an appetizer and 2 protein items to make up a full entrée. My wife and I ordered 5 items in total and shared everything. It was just right. Go back in time when the Vanderbilt's lived there and enjoy a great experience with fantastic food and beautiful ambiance. You won't be disappointed.

This review is specifically for the restaurant: We made a reservation for dinner on a Friday night and Shelburne Farms did not disappoint. The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and made with a great deal of love and attention to detail. The service was excellent, with our hostess and waiter both being incredibly gracious and engaging. Much of the food in the restaurant is grown on the farm (or from other local providers) and you can taste the freshness. Normal items such as carrots, beets, baby lettuce, and tomatoes are used in inventive ways and have more intensity of taste that anything you could get in the grocery store. We enjoyed the burrata, beet bolognese, trout, and squash & squid salad. We will certainly be going back and look forward to another amazing meal each time!

***My review is specifically for the restaurant*** It was a very much sub-par experience and is probably not reflective of a normal evening there, but alas I did not have a great dinner. Service was at times slow, especially at the bar... Me and someone else ordered ~10 drinks at the bar for a group. they forgot one, so I sat there off to the side for about 5 minutes waiting for them to either get it for me or to at least acknowledge me and ask what I was waiting for. I got neither and eventually just got back in line. The couple in front of me ordered like 3 drinks. I heard the lead bartender tell the other that he'd handle their drinks, and that he should help me. But evidently the other didn't hear this and proceeded to make the 3 drinks. Neither one noticed they were making the exact same drinks, which took about 10 minutes. Then finally once they both finish (at remarkably consistent times), they notice the error. then one of them helps me. So it took about 20 minutes to get a canned cider... Once we sat (a party of 10) we were told that we'd have to do the fixed sharing dishes and that we can't order individually. I get it... but this was not made clear to us ahead of time and I think we were all looking forward to trying some of the regular menu items. The food was good but nothing amazing. Also during dinner I ordered a cocktail. after 20 minutes, nothing. I thought maybe they couldn't do that cocktail or the bar was still slow/busy, so I figured eh I'll just get something else. But the server was MIA for another 15 minutes so I couldn't get anything. It was (I believe) the restaurant's opening weekend post-COVID, so I can forgive some things. And I believe my experience would be better if I came in a group of 2-3, instead of 10.

A chance conversation with the person who issued tickets for the farm visit resulted in my husband and me having a wonderful meal at the farm inn. We had dinner out on the patio, the sun had just gone down and the view was out of this world. The service excellent and the food was so delicious. The lamb and beef that we ordered together with the sides was the best we have had anywhere. The beef was cooked to perfection and the lamb was so tender. They graciously obliged to my husband’s request to swap the sides and the servers suggestion of the lemon caramel was the icing on the cake. It’s well worth the price and we would love to go again.

My wife and I have stayed here 3 times over the past years and enjoy coming back to this gem on Lake Champlain, and we also leave looking forward to our next visit. It is beautiful both inside and out, and the vast grounds (1,400 acres) are made for walking, running, biking, and exploring. We were here recently on a hot weekend, but even without a/c, our room on the second floor, which was very spacious, was comfortable with just a couple of fans. While I’m rating it 5 stars, I would give it 4 stars because I think the food is a little over-priced, though very good, but I’d also give it 6 stars (if I could) for the amazing surroundings that you will find yourself taking in as you walk the grounds or kayak on the lake, as we did, and breath in the fresh Green Mountain air. We waited 5 years to go back for this last visit, but I think we will return again much sooner.
